Gigastorage Technology is constantly short-staffed, yet it keeps arbitrarily kicking out new employees. I was dismissed during my third week. The reason given was: “You reported to the team leader that the person training you had a bad attitude.” Dismissing someone for this reason is truly ridiculous. If there is a problem, of course it should be reported to the team leader so the team leader can handle it—otherwise, what is the point of having a team leader? Someone reports a problem in the department and is immediately kicked out. So this is how the department team leader handles things—truly unbelievable! When dismissing me, they did not give me any advance notice. They simply deactivated my employee card, preventing me from entering or leaving the dormitory and factory. Half a day passed, and not a single HR representative from Gigastorage Technology came to notify me that I had been dismissed or needed to move out of the dormitory. I had to call around myself to ask about the reason. So this is how Gigastorage Technology treats its employees.

I also suggest that department FF stop having veteran employees train newcomers. Three or four people often gather together and chat during working hours. When training newcomers, they do not explain at all what we are working on; they only say, “Click this, click that.” Their attitude is extremely poor, and they even throw things at newcomers. They teach something only once and expect the trainee to know it. They might as well hire professionals directly. They are really not suitable for bringing in new employees, because anyone who genuinely wants to learn will leave this department.

I have been working at this company for two years and am about to enter my third year. New employees can all receive a new-hire allowance, but long-serving employees do not receive any long-service bonus.

The company’s food options are subpar, and the prices are expensive.

The accommodation is quite affordable. The first three months are free, so if you’re relocating for work, you don’t need to rent another place, which is very convenient.

Cons

The area is relatively remote, and there isn’t much to do. Having a scooter makes getting around more convenient.

Pros

Kinsus has an employee cafeteria with a $40 meal subsidy and a wide variety of buffet dishes—it’s truly affordable and you never get tired of the food!

Cons

Mobile phones cannot be brought into the plant, which is quite inconvenient. However, there are employee lockers, so you can bring your phone to work and store it in your own locker; it’s still fairly acceptable.

When you have free time to eat

Cons

Kinsus’s equipment is excellent, but you’re never allowed to eat on time. Even though you’re equipment staff, the people on the floor will frantically call you for repairs whenever there’s a problem, regardless of your experience. Their tone is also unpleasant, as if they’re treating you like a dog. It makes you feel like you’re inferior to a technician. The seniority system means that senior employees do no work and make new hires take the blame. For example: 制一X詩宜 (spends all day trying to get into the project team, never responds to repair requests, pretends to be dead, steals company pay while enjoying the benefits, and falsely uses others’ names to obtain new-hire bonuses). Superiors never pay any attention to problems reported to them. All I can say is: Kinsus is absolutely great.

Think twice before coming to work at the Young Lions plant. The plant's design has problems, and its safety is a serious concern. Even when injured while wearing protective equipment, injuries are not reported as workplace accidents. Most personnel in the environmental, health, and safety department have extremely poor attitudes: they do not solve problems and only want to criticize the injured person. The more you do, the more mistakes you make; your body becomes exhausted, and performance evaluations become a subject of ridicule! There are also some people at the plant who only cause trouble and complicate matters, joining forces with contractors to target their own colleagues and loudly berating coworkers in front of contractors to make themselves look powerful! The systems built by the contractors are also terrible. They shirk responsibility and refuse to deal with problems, resulting in a major rupture of a nitric acid pipe at the plant. The contractor simply washed its hands of the matter and did nothing. I sincerely wonder whether this plant is capable of operating normally.

Cons

The meal subsidy has remained at NT$40 per meal and has never been increased. The buffet, however, has become more expensive and increasingly unappetizing—just looking at it makes me lose my appetite.

The gift vouchers provided are only SOGO vouchers, and I don't like going to SOGO.

My colleagues are all very easy to get along with.

Cons

1. The restaurant food is terrible.

2. The dormitory environment is poor. After the air conditioner tripped the power at 5:30 a.m., it could not be turned back on, making it too hot to continue sleeping.

3. The surrounding amenities are extremely poor. There is nothing nearby except convenience stores, so I never know what to eat for lunch or dinner, and there is nowhere to go on days off.

Cons

1. Personnel assigned to a station are expected to learn how to oversee three or four or more production lines at once—one person is used as three. If you do not do it well, you will also be reprimanded.

2. When a machine has a problem, the personnel assigned to the station must troubleshoot it themselves. Only if they cannot repair it may they call for maintenance. Even if it is repaired, there is no reward.

3. Company benefits for direct employees are pitifully low. They are all taken by those above, and nothing is passed down.

4. Compensation and benefits are somewhat better for new hires, but after they receive the new-hire bonus, their pay becomes much lower than that of other companies. Long-term employees receive virtually no substantive rewards. Instead, many experienced employees move to other companies (欣X科技), where their salaries can be increased by 5,000–10,000 or more.

5. The bonus paid on the 10th is deducted at the discretion of management. There is no fixed proportion; it depends on their mood. Even if you do not take leave, you still may not receive 3,000.

6. The dishes are often the same, rotating week after week, and the food is frequently cold.

7. Things such as long-service bonuses, rewards for training new employees, machine-operation fees, and achievement bonuses—none of the bonuses you hear about are actually provided.

8. For positions at or above engineer level, many people are not particularly skilled in operating equipment or setting parameters. When something goes wrong, those below bear the responsibility; when there are benefits, management takes them all.

The old and useless get paid more than those who work hard...

You have perfect attendance... because you enjoy it!

Those who only say they’re as tired as dogs... have poor attendance.

And I don’t know what’s wrong with the attitude of the Kinsus security guards...

Do I owe you something? Can’t you close the trunk a little more gently?

The way you speak, whether your tone or grammar, is so bad it’s like your mother is dead. Is there no one to manage them?! Are the security guards untouchable?! If I had known, I would’ve become a security guard instead of an operator.

When the pandemic reached Level 3 alert, interviews were still available at 7:00 p.m., which was quite convenient for people who were employed, as they didn't have to take special leave to attend an interview.

Now, due to the pandemic, online interviews are also available, so there's no need to interview face-to-face, which helps avoid concerns about crowds~

Pros

1. The young male security guard was very friendly.

2. The female HR representative was beautiful and very friendly.

3. The HR representative who conducted the interview was male, very talkative, and answered questions in a friendly manner.

4. The production and manufacturing supervisor was very friendly and answered the interviewee’s questions clearly and precisely. He also spoke candidly about the practical issues, hoping to help the interviewee understand them.

5. As of 2021, the company was still in the process of expanding its facilities, at the former location of Fuyang Technology (which essentially means rebuilding~). Therefore, in terms of development and challenges, it should definitely be a good opportunity!

6. There were currently no night shifts; all shifts were regular day shifts. (Because the facility expansion was still in its early stages.)

7. Overtime on weekdays and holidays could be reported for overtime pay or compensatory leave.

Cons

1. Because the company was currently expanding its facilities and the organization had not yet been divided into highly specialized units, employees might need to handle both production and manufacturing processes themselves!

2. Working hours might be somewhat long. (That’s probably how it is at most large technology companies~)

Before joining this company, I also spent a lot of time reading online reviews.

The company’s reputation really seemed quite bad—there were long complaints about labor-law violations, issues involving foreign workers and local workers, overtime pay, and so on.

But since I was genuinely short of money recently, I had no choice and could only choose to give this company, which appeared to have a poor reputation, a try.

Maybe I was really lucky.

I didn’t encounter the troublesome things that other people had experienced.

I’ll share the things I experienced and thought were good with you.

This company has the Shilei site and the Qinghua site in Taoyuan.

As for which has better facilities, I think Shilei is better.

That doesn’t mean Qinghua is bad; it’s just somewhat less good by comparison.

There is a gym, basketball court, KTV, and other facilities on site, all of which employees can use.

There are two breaks in total: one is 75 minutes and the other is 80 minutes.

That’s plenty of time to rest, and you can also use the facilities mentioned above.

You can even go exercise on your days off—why not? 🤷‍♂️

The on-site 7-ELEVEN also offers additional discounts.

I’ve also seen someone complain that there is a meal allowance included in the salary, worth NT$40 per meal.

If you don’t use it all, the remainder doesn’t become part of your wages and is simply wasted.

I have to speak fairly on the company’s behalf here.

This meal allowance has nothing to do with our salary;

it is an additional benefit provided by the company. 😑

Some companies may indeed provide free meals,

but every company naturally has different policies.

The subsidy is NT$40 per meal, and there are two meals a day, so that’s NT$80.

With a four-days-on, two-days-off schedule and an average of 20 working days per month,

that means you get NT$1,600 per month to spend for free.

Isn’t that a great deal?

There is one thing I consider a drawback:

the company cafeteria is rather expensive.

In other words, if you aren’t careful, once that NT$1,600 is used up,

the excess will be deducted from your salary.

However, personally, I think that after it runs out,

the worst you can do is buy food outside.

There are places selling food outside too. 😑

Besides, there are also fruit and coffee shops inside the company.

That NT$1,600 doesn’t necessarily have to be spent at the cafeteria;

you can use it to buy fruit or coffee instead.

How you use it is a matter of personal preference.

As for the process department where I work,

I think both my coworkers and supervisors are nice.

That’s my experience to share.

Cons

The cafeteria is rather expensive.

Shifts cannot be chosen freely.

The gym is closed during the overnight shift.

Everything else is pretty good. 🤷‍♂️

2019: Notes on on-site handovers: Production takes priority; 6S is carried out after the product has been put on the machine. However, if an engineer dislikes you, they may tell the deputy manager, “So-and-so said they won’t do 6S.” What is outrageous is that the deputy manager actually believes it and accuses the operator of being disobedient, transferring them to another unit as punishment. Local employees are expected to work harder than foreign workers. When you are wiping the floor, foreign workers may stand by and watch you work. Foreign workers slacking off, not understanding instructions, and chatting during work are considered normal; if a local employee makes the above mistakes or fails to understand the manager’s intentions, they are treated as if they deserve to be punished, such as being transferred to another unit, having their performance rating reduced to zero, receiving a demerit, and so on. Managers center everything on their own opinions. No matter how long you have worked there, as long as they feel that something you said is even remotely like contradicting them (when in fact you are explaining why the goal cannot be achieved), they will subjectively decide that you are incompetent. The severity of the matter is determined by the supervisor: minor cases result in a performance deduction, while anything they consider serious leads to a transfer. But the explanation they give others is, “We’re developing you and letting you learn more”—such a grand-sounding excuse. No matter how well you performed before, it counts for nothing. The complaint channels are merely for show. If you have no self-respect, can do more work than foreign workers, do not talk back when wrongly accused, treat being sent to provide support as part of your job, and regard being transferred to another unit as the manager’s concern for you (while others may look at you as if you were a monster), there is no path to promotion, everything depends entirely on the supervisor’s personal opinion of you, and the benefits are almost the same as those for foreign workers—welcome to the pit as soon as possible.

There are no advantages; if you manage to get out alive, consider yourself lucky.

Cons

The culture of favoritism toward internal favorites is extremely serious. While others work four days on and two days off and still have to work an extra one or two days to avoid having their performance bonus deducted, his boss works two days on and four days off. He takes ten days off a month and still receives a NT$15,000 performance bonus. You also have to act as cannon fodder for the engineer and the director. Minor offenses result in a major demerit and your bonus being reduced to zero; serious offenses result in dismissal and permanent ineligibility for rehire.

Then I waited for the interview.

After the interview, they asked me when I could start work, and I answered, "In about a week."

HR said that if I was hired, they would notify me within three days.

But they gave me a hiring notice........

Extremely remote, so you can save money (if that counts as a benefit....)

Cons

The regular day shift is 12–15 hours (常態), with a responsibility-based work system and no overtime pay. Although the company has overtime pay regulations, it is impossible to apply for it.

The turnover (resignation) rate is high and there is also a lot of work, making it very difficult to take leave.

It is strongly recommended that the company reduce working hours. Only when working hours are reduced will the turnover rate decrease, and only when the turnover rate decreases can the company as a whole enter a positive cycle.

The company must be "people-oriented"......

Only a few days after starting at the company, I already felt that something was off.

They didn’t assign me any work and just left employees to fend for themselves.

P.S. I applied for an operator position at the Xinfeng plant.

During my four-day vacation, HR called me and asked me to go support the Qinghua plant.

But I felt that it was strange to go support them when I hadn’t learned anything yet.

Ah, on my very first day of support, I already felt that something was odd.

Why didn’t anyone introduce me to the inside of the company, such as the locations of the restrooms and cafeteria?

I had to ask other people to find out where everything was.

The team leader at the site I was supporting even asked me, “How come you don’t know how to do anything?”

“I saw you standing around here. You can’t just stand around.

You have to find something to do.” But I couldn’t see anything that I could actually do.

Then they told me to ask the foreign workers what I could help with.

They had me help arrange trays, placing the BGA substrates one by one onto the trays until they were full.

I repeated that same motion until the end of my shift.

...............

A few days later, I was still doing the same thing.

Then the team leader told me that my movements were too slow and so on....

I was speechless. How fast was I supposed to be?

It felt awful. I came to help, my hands were sore as hell, and they still complained that I was too slow?

So damn frustrating.

No wonder that plant has hardly anyone applying, haha.

I was a new employee at the Xinfeng plant. I had only worked for four days, and then took four days off.

During those days off, the company called me and asked me to go support the Qinghua plant.

I... (black question marks...???) I had only just started working, and they wanted me to go provide support?

Isn't that a bit ridiculous?

Then today, when I went to provide support, that team leader even asked me, "Didn't you attend training before?" (When did I ever attend training??)

Why don't you know how to do anything? Damn, I had only just started working—who would know how to do it~

They even complained that I was moving too slowly and told me, "You're here to provide support, to help us, not to mess things up..."

I found that really uncomfortable to hear.

I didn't want to come provide support either~ Damn it.

If I'm still pissed off tomorrow, I'll just stay home and rest instead of going to work.

Sick leave... you can take it as long as you provide a medical certificate, right...

Last year, the current deputy manager of Shilei Manufacturing Division 2 was still the newly appointed AOI director...

A colleague needed surgery and made an appointment with him to request sick leave....

Unexpectedly, he asked the colleague to reschedule with the doctor...

That request was truly outrageous...

This was not an isolated case; he had made the same demand of many people, but the others simply ignored him...

A female colleague felt unwell and wanted to leave early, but he blocked her leave request....

He said that if she felt unwell, she could rest until she felt better before entering the work area...

But afterward, he did not notify the team leader responsible for covering her shift....

As a result, the team leader and the employee continued to have conflicts afterward...

Your body belongs to you, and he actually wanted a worker to reschedule an appointment that had already been arranged with a doctor....

He was truly outrageous...

No wonder he was nicknamed the “Leave-Deduction King”....

At the time, he even wanted to control early departures.....

Someone wanted to leave early...

Unexpectedly, he blocked that employee’s leave for more than two hours....

The employee called Human Resources to ask and only then learned that HR had already approved the leave, but he had not informed the employee..

He outrageously blocked the leave for more than two hours

In the end, he even spoke threateningly to the employee, saying, “I can let you leave this time, but next week he will announce that early departures must have a valid reason before he approves them....”

The next day, the employee verbally submitted a resignation... Later, it was said that he never introduced this rule

Now he has become the deputy manager of Manufacturing Division 2.. I wonder whether he has implemented this rule..

“Technical allowance”... has nothing to do with the technical skills you learned....

As long as you don’t often work overtime and don’t know how to flatter people... the supervisor may take it away at any time...

During my employment, I encountered three colleagues who had their technical allowances taken away by the supervisor because they didn’t work overtime and often took leave.

There was also one person who was exceptionally good at slacking off and chatting, yet knew nothing; their technical allowance was actually at the highest level...

In short... learning more is useless... that place does not value technical skills... it only cares about whether you work overtime and whether you know how to curry favor with and flatter your supervisors.

Any? Perhaps only people in the office could think of any advantages.

Cons

I left some time ago... so I don't know what the situation is like now.

But when I was still employed there, taking "annual leave" was really extremely difficult.... Department: Shilei Manufacturing Division 2, AOI

"Annual leave" was practically something you had to exchange with the supervisor by offering overtime.

Especially the current deputy manager of Manufacturing Division 2... at the time, he was the AOI supervisor....

Requesting leave in advance did not necessarily mean it would be approved.... A colleague requested leave a month in advance, but it was still rejected..

Yet other annual-leave requests submitted later were approved... Those who got theirs approved had to offer conditions and "exchange leave" with him...

This supervisor was extremely inhumane... For a female colleague who lived all the way in Kaohsiung, he gave her only half a day of annual leave....

He expected her to make it in time for the 12:30 a.m. shift..... Considering grave sweeping and the travel time from Kaohsiung to the Shilei plant of Kinsus in Xinyu, Taoyuan,

not only would she have no time to catch up on sleep... the transportation costs were probably two to three times that day's wages...

A truly outrageous and inhumane manager..

I heard that at the time he even required foreign workers taking menstrual leave to take only half a day and provide medical documentation...

It was clearly illegal, yet there was no record of it because the foreign workers did not dare report him... He also required local workers to take only half a day, but their requests were all rejected..

He did not dare treat foreign workers the same way either, probably because he was afraid of being sued...

Now that he has been promoted to deputy manager of Manufacturing Division 2... more and more people are under his control regarding annual leave..

The Shilei Manufacturing Division 2 colleagues who are still there can only "fend for themselves"...

Before my friend resigned from Tsing Hua Production Management, they applied to use all of their annual leave.....

But the company made things difficult at every turn....

Under the Labor Standards Act, resigning employees have the right to use up their annual leave.....

However, the production management supervisor actually told the resigning employee... “If you can’t use it all, the company will pay you in lieu of it”..... It’s truly outrageous...

After the employee leaves, they can’t file a complaint either... because the company paid them in lieu of the leave....

Besides Tsing Hua Production Management, Shilei AOI is also very serious about blocking annual leave,

AOI previously even required female foreign workers who took menstrual leave for only half a day to provide supporting documentation,

And now the supervisor at the time has been promoted to deputy manager of Production Department 2.... I’m afraid it will be extremely difficult for frontline OP workers in Production Department 2 to take annual leave....

Back when I was at AOI, I often saw people get injured and request occupational injury leave, only to be denied by the supervisor.

They were required to change it to personal sick leave or annual leave... There are really many managers who lack humanity.

Female workers may even be required to provide a doctor’s certificate for menstrual leave....

At Kinsus Shihlei AOI, however, the new supervisor often announces that medical proof must be attached....

It is currently unclear what the situation is.....

But one year ago, when I was still at AOI, the supervisor at that time actually required female foreign workers to take only half a day of special leave....

The agency also cooperated with the department's request and asked the foreign workers to comply.....

They completely disregarded the Labor Standards Act...

Because no one filed a complaint, everything became “legal”...

Believe it?....

When an OP was sent from the workplace to the hospital by ambulance during working hours and later requested sick leave, the supervisor of that department actually demanded to speak with the attending physician before approving the leave......

What a “humane” company management culture this is.....

They completely treat OPs as if they were not human.....

The things heard most often during employment were... “forced overtime and leave controls”.....

Blue-collar OPs are almost prohibited from taking leave all year round and are forced to work overtime; violating or failing to comply results in a performance deduction.....

The “technical allowance” there should really be called an “overtime allowance”..... It has nothing to do with what you studied....

As long as you do not cooperate with overtime... you may be removed at any time...........

If you want to apply for a job there, it is best to be a white-collar office employee; your leave will be normal and you will still be treated as a person. All blue-collar OPs are treated like machines...

Leave bans and forced overtime, blocking workers’ applications for annual leave... forcing foreign female workers to take only half a day of menstrual leave, while both local and foreign female workers must provide proof of medical treatment for menstrual leave... These things happen almost constantly during employment....

Some cleanroom departments even control the time workers spend using the restroom and drinking water..... There are truly countless violations of the Labor Standards Act...

I also heard that the lamination department requires OPs to clock in 15 minutes early, with this ridiculously excessive order not being counted as tardiness,

Unfortunately, the Labor Standards Act stipulates that complaints will only be accepted if the complainant is “identified by name”.... Otherwise, I would have reported them to the Ministry of Labor long ago...

Nowadays, the Taoyuan Labor Department favors employers... Even its interpretation of annual leave has been changed to allow employers to block workers’ annual leave... as long as they say “there are not enough employees scheduled to work that day”....

If you want to experience what it feels like not to be treated as a human being.... you can go to Kinsus’s Shilei site and the Manufacturing 2 and Production Control departments at the Qinghua site...

I have friends who worked in these two departments... The complaints about other departments are only from among the workers..... so they may differ from the facts...

But it is true that the Shilei Manufacturing 2A AOI and Qinghua Production Control departments are extremely harsh about annual leave and other types of leave....

Taking leave while employed in those two departments is extremely difficult...

There are none... only forced overtime, with performance deductions for noncompliance... exploiting loopholes in the Labor Standards Act

Cons

How can illegal practices be improved?...

Currently, the deputy manager of Production Department 2 has required female migrant workers to take only half a day of menstrual leave and provide medical certificates...

But there are no records to check... because no one has filed a complaint against him..... At the time, he was only the AOI supervisor.

Now that he has been promoted to deputy manager of Production Department 2, given his strong-handed management style.... it has become very difficult for frontline employees in Production Department 2 to request annual leave....

When he was at AOI, OPs had to offer overtime or other conditions in exchange for "annual leave" from him.....

He once even required a female worker who lived far away in Kaohsiung to take only half a day of annual leave to go home to sweep her ancestors' graves....

She had to make it back in time for the night shift starting at 12:30 a.m......

With all this travel on top of grave sweeping.... do you think she had time to get enough sleep?...

It really is a very inhumane "sweatshop department"....

Even after the one fixed day off and one flexible rest day system was implemented.... they still have never made it easy to take annual leave......

His and HR's catchphrase is, "If you don't finish taking your annual leave, the company will convert it into pay for you".... meaning OPs have no right to choose when to take leave.... They are truly obstructing workers from taking annual leave in an extremely outrageous manner

HR is just randomly reaching out to people; even if you do well on the English and logic tests, it’s useless. The manager also asked a few perfunctory questions and then left.

Annual leave is extremely difficult to request... You may have to "beg" the supervisor.

OPs may be "banned from taking leave" at any time... or be "forced to work overtime."

My friend was already in the hospital's emergency department, but when they requested leave, their supervisor actually required them to confirm it with the attending physician before approving the leave.

My friend took annual leave to see a doctor, and the production-control supervisor actually required them to provide proof afterward... You even need to provide proof when taking annual leave...

The technical allowance... at this company is based on "attendance rate"..... As long as you don't work overtime, it may be taken away at any time....

The technical allowance is "completely unrelated" to what you studied...

In short.... Annual leave is extremely difficult to request.... You may have to beg the supervisor or exchange overtime for annual leave.

On typhoon days... even when the city government declares a day off, the company still requires OPs to report to work.

They don't treat OPs as "people" at all...

Taking annual leave is extremely difficult, especially with the production control manager. Even when an operator requests annual leave to see a doctor, they are still required to provide proof....

In short.... At this company, aside from white-collar employees, who are not given a hard time when requesting annual leave...

all other operators may be hassled by their supervisors... submitting a request in advance does not necessarily mean it will be approved..

The favored employees, however, can take leave whenever they want

This is a company with money but no quality of life; in fact, when you do the math, it doesn’t amount to much more money.

This position has been posted for nearly three months. During the on-site interview, you are asked to fill out personal information, indicate whether any relatives work at the company, and complete a simple intelligence test. After the interview, you are not notified whether you have been hired.

I heard that some policies have changed.... Taking special leave will immediately deduct 2,000 from your performance bonus....

Those who want to go should think twice.....

You can’t even take special leave.

For operations sent to the emergency ward, even the unit director has to "hear" the attending physician's verbal explanation in person before approving leave.....

It really is a very "humane" "sweatshop"

Holiday overtime pay is 100 per hour, with 24-hour on-call duty. The base salary is not high; you mainly have to rely on the position allowance to get a decent monthly salary. The company culture feels rather pressuring and demanding.
