Putting on airs could win a trophy by now

Cons

Has market research here already died...? What exactly happened in 2022? Everyone should write a piece about it. Senior management thought it was an endurance battle, while I thought it was a high-risk thrill ride. Marketing was left to fend for itself—what will the ending be? Forced onto the field?

After more than a year here, all I can say is that the situation is completely different from what I imagined. As the old and new generations transition, a great many pieces are missing, while a pile of scams has appeared. Zero goals this year—we pressed the wrong directional button.

There is no new technology or new solution. We tapped the broken joystick, only to have it shake apart piece by piece. We will never be champions; our heads must have been knocked silly. Others are the ones breaking records. The game has been completely ruined, causing the current schedule to be pushed back, and all the planned projects have been delayed.

My honesty is justice, and it is also pragmatism. The internal processes and organization need to change the rules. Let’s have a real performance competition and win a trophy. Especially the old hands—they should start warming up.

Finally, I hope the product continues to get better and better in the world.

Pros

The tone was gentle when inviting me to the interview.

Cons

1. They said it was a fixed shift today, but when they called the next day, it had changed to rotating shifts.

2. The HR staff were unprofessional. When they called, they had forgotten which interviewee they were supposed to contact and had to look up the information.

Pros

The company has air conditioning, water, and electricity.

Cons

There are too many downsides to count. I absolutely do not recommend working in sales at Taiwan Mobile. The pay is low, the workload is heavy, and the quality of the coworkers is poor.

Because a certain sales department is basically a court.

There is a self-important local emperor in the court, and everyone has to obey him.

The managers beneath him are like little lapdogs, spending all day wanting only to lick the emperor’s boots. They live no differently from eunuchs.

These managers normally can’t stand one another but have to pretend to be best friends. Their usual hobbies are spreading rumors and badmouthing others, and they don’t even spare their subordinates. After all the sales staff beneath them have left, they still smugly think they are very capable and good at their jobs. They have never reflected on whether they did anything wrong or failed to treat their subordinates or nearby colleagues well, because all they think about is how to get promoted.

Capable people should avoid staying in this terrible department. Everyone who has left is doing better than they are, earning more money without having to suffer or endure their emotional manipulation.

Don’t be as foolish as I was during the interview. HR is under pressure to interview a certain number of people, so even if they don’t intend to hire you, they’ll still go through the entire process. It was “just an interview,” yet I foolishly handed over a copy of my diploma and did math exercises, feeling like I was being played.

It’s also possible that the interviewer keeps changing.

Cons

Cons

They brazenly put on an arrogant, high-ranking-official attitude, making it clear that the Labor Standards Act does not require them to pay year-end bonuses (essentially saying outright, “I’m only going to exploit you and won’t share the profits”). I visited an office that could accommodate around 20 or more people, but there were only a few employees there—very few. They had probably just had another batch of people resign.

Don’t be like me and only understand all of this after you get home.

Pros

1. Can work from home

2. There are quite a lot of benefits, including a free company mobile number (with a monthly allowance of 2,000; you can choose from various plans, including 4G/5G/Disney+/MyVideo...)

3. The company holds many activities (year-end banquet, welcome events, Google events)

4. Pregnancy and childcare leave, maternity leave, fully paid sick leave, etc.

5. Friendly colleagues and pleasant cross-department collaboration

Cons

1. Although it is branded as a transformation into a technology company, internally it is still similar to a traditional industry company

2. Office politics

3. You can see scenes from *Empresses in the Palace* unfold here (when you see a supervisor, you have to greet them)

4. Supervisors focus on more than just KPIs; there are also many non-work-related items

5. There are an excessive number of forms and documents to fill out

6. The workload is intense, and overtime is frequent, with no overtime pay (unfinished work has to be taken home)

7. You are monitored very closely even when working from home

8. There are frequent H&R reviews of various KPIs

9. High turnover

10. It takes time to activate various permissions. Although there are operating manuals and procedures, the process is still tedious and troublesome

11. There are an excessive number of company regulations, and they are as strict as those in a military camp

12. The quality of some supervisors...呵呵

13. There are many forms, and you need to pay attention to details. A telecommunications company’s confidentiality agreements and regulations are strict

14. The workload is so intense that even some outsourced workers cannot take it and leave

Large company

Cons

I don't know if it's because it's a large company, but they seem to think they don't need to show much respect to interviewees. HR handled the interview scheduling very poorly from the start: they asked the applicant to provide availability for the following week, but did not respond until that week had arrived, then asked for availability for the week after that. The interview manager said the result would be sent by email within 1–2 weeks—ha, that was basically a lie, because they never sent any interview result email. I messaged HR to ask, and they simply read it without replying.

You can tell from these small details that they don't even have basic manners.

Stable large company

The CEO wants to turn the company into a tech company, but the CIO is still playing the same boring games as in traditional industries. Engineers who are part of the CIO’s own circle get raises, while those who aren’t don’t, making the company feel like a family business. The CIO has ruined the routine annual raises. Engineers who want to join should remember to attend more of the CIO’s events and flatter them.

Large company

Cons

1. Like at other buildings, Ms. Li from HR was asked about the content posted on 104. Not only was her response cold and extremely poor, but after I finished asking and said thank you and that I had no further questions, she kept repeating, "Do you have any other questions? Please feel free to ask any questions you may have." It felt as though she was implying that I still had many questions.

2. The deputy director of a department with a very long name was late and did not offer even a brief apology. When I asked some technical questions, he was not even familiar with the tools himself yet kept criticizing them; I have no idea what he was criticizing. When I asked him about career planning for the position, he responded very rudely, saying, "That is something for the first interview. I am only confirming your qualifications." Although what he said was not wrong, couldn't we also discuss the senior management's expectations and thoughts regarding this position? If he did not want to answer, he did not need to use that kind of attitude.

Are the people at this company all this arrogant?

The year-end bonus plus performance bonus is very generous, and there are many benefits.

Cons

Extremely bureaucratic. If you don’t have connections, you’re on your own. Whether during meetings and discussions or when writing reports and reviews, supervisors always say they don’t understand, refuse to listen to explanations, and send things back directly. Although HR always says that bonuses are based on the evaluation results, the authority to decide everything lies with the supervisor—you can see the bonuses but can’t get them. HR also cuts your salary first, then tells you that we are paid based on annual salary.

Departmental training is completely nonexistent. When something goes wrong, you have to shoulder the responsibility yourself, and you’ll still be blamed for not doing your utmost. They will criticize and humiliate you until the supervisor is satisfied.

Many long-serving supervisors refuse to retire and are extremely old-fashioned in their thinking. Don’t expect to get promoted. There is no overtime pay; it’s a responsibility-based system. The company will force you to adjust your attendance times, otherwise it will keep sending notifications.

In short, it’s an extremely old-fashioned company.

It's time to travel.

Cons

Set a record for the world of name-calling games! Playing eight hours a day—will your brain really not short-circuit?

A boring game, with more and more bullies, just like slimes. Even more absurdly, several competition formats are set, yet there is absolutely no way to assess success. HR hasn't submitted any records, and there is no footage as evidence. How are you supposed to play? It turns out the higher-ups are just fragile cookies, and getting through depends entirely on hand speed.

I thought the company was full of gold everywhere, but in reality high-pressure air sprays everywhere. Everyone wants to be the boss while also stirring things up everywhere. Life is full of coincidences: discriminating on one hand and being politically correct on the other—a fine bit of covert cognitive warfare. Without a reviewer confirming that everything is okay, the selling point is still fairly interesting.

Is this playing Tetris? They think clicking the mouse once will put them in the cloud, as though that's design. Forever self-centered, and the marketing is a little hard to stomach after seeing it.

Personal impression: They like to make a mountain out of a molehill and constantly change directions. The company really likes holding meetings—I suspect there are people loafing on the job there. Meetings every day, incredibly impressive, and then absolutely no efficiency whatsoever. Or they hold meetings all day, and then suddenly at night: “Urgent correction! The task has changed!” (Absolutely dumbfounded.) There is no efficiency at all. If they can’t produce results, they just keep writing reports, over and over—a vicious cycle. The turnover rate is extremely high!

If not for HR asking some intrusive questions, it would have been a pleasant interview experience.

I heard the company is near Songshan Tobacco Factory, in the cultural and creative district.

Is the office environment not bad? I wouldn't know since I haven't been there.

Cons

I applied for the position of “Visual Communications Staff,” and a supervisor surnamed Wu began asking me questions unrelated to design. While I was explaining my work and relevant qualifications, she said that what I was saying was too long and completely irrelevant, and then began making things difficult for me in various ways! Although it was an online interview, I felt that Ms. Wu's tone was quite forceful. She kept throwing questions at me, saying, “If you were a designer at this company, how would you present your work?” The entire interview process was very unpleasant for me. Still, I smiled and let her finish speaking, and she even gave me “guidance” on how I should present my résumé and portfolio better! Ms. Wu—thank you for your guidance. As for being humiliated, I’m already pretty numb to it, so I hope you enjoyed yourself.

It looks like you’re probably more interested in finding employees with a stronger submissive streak, since they would be a better fit, right?

The technical aspect of the interview focused on the big picture. The position applied for may have been a general engineer role, so a basic understanding of networking concepts, Linux, and shell was required. The interview went fairly smoothly, and the HR representative explained the company’s policies clearly and understandably.

Cons

The compensation is divided into 12 months of salary, 2 months of bonus, and 4 months of year-end bonus, totaling 18 months. As a result, the actual monthly salary received is lower.

HR called directly and only asked one question:

“Are you currently looking for a job? We have a position for a member here. Could you introduce yourself?”

I asked in return: “Could you tell me what kind of position it is? Otherwise, there’s no need for me to introduce myself.”

HR immediately replied: “Then never mind!”

I have to ask: You call people directly without even asking whether they’re busy, and then expect them to introduce themselves right away. Do you think everyone is just sitting around waiting for a call from your company?!

Then, when I asked what the job involved, HR had no interest in answering at all—but still expected me to introduce myself immediately? The HR department at this company has some serious issues!

(I responded this way because far too many companies’ HR departments like to send out invitations indiscriminately. Even when someone is an experienced professional, they often randomly send invitations asking them to interview for entry-level positions.)

Everyone can judge for themselves!

This company found an outsourced contractor and was arrogant afterward.

I took on their project in May, but they did not pay me for the first assignment until September 24.

Wouldn’t the contractor starve waiting like that?

I sent the content to Taiwan Mobile for confirmation, but they never responded.

Then, the day before execution, I followed up again, only to be told that they would not proceed because it did not align with Taiwan Mobile’s direction.

I was even accused of not participating in Taiwan Mobile’s internal meeting discussions.

Uh... I’m not your internal employee, and I had no idea when your company held meetings!

Afterward, they criticized me in hindsight, saying that the work I had done the previous month was very poor, but that they had still paid me.

They showed no response at all during that period and only said this afterward. That kind of response is truly astonishing.

Contractors are people too. We take on projects we want to do with enthusiasm.

Fortunately, we don’t have to put up with your condescending attitude.

As for the projects from the final two months, you can simply not pay me either—consider them a gift!

The outside world should also know how you treat outsourced contractors.

The HR representative had a very pleasant attitude when extending the invitation by phone, making me feel that they were genuinely committed to finding the right person.

Cons

The position applied for was Training and Development Specialist.

The following comments are based on a professional HR perspective.

1. There were many interview questions, but most were unrelated to the job and the interview was largely unstructured.

2. The questions were random and lacked a competency-based framework for assessing the candidate.

3. The interviewer did not proactively explain the process after the interview, such as how many days it would take to receive a response or whether there would be a second interview.

4. There was no follow-up after the interview. When I called to ask HR, their attitude was cold and very different from the attitude they had when inviting me to the interview. I only received a rejection letter after repeatedly asking for an update; without following up, I would not have received one. This was extremely disrespectful to the candidate.

5. The recruitment process needs to be improved.

The monthly salary at headquarters is low, but the bonuses total six months’ pay, and there is almost always a salary adjustment every year. There is a company-issued mobile phone number, gift vouchers for the three major holidays, and the overall benefits are quite good. Work usually ends on time, with occasional overtime (possibly depending on the department).

Cons

I’ve seen several managers berate people as if they were dogs, showing great disrespect toward employees. Some of them scold people at every meal, so you need strong mental resilience and a submissive nature to adapt.

Large companies come with a pile of unnecessary procedures, and they don’t seem interested in improving efficiency. Many tasks are passed back and forth, like in a government agency.

Every year, they set goals that are impossible to achieve, then afterward criticize employees for not meeting them. If a manager has a bad temper, you get scolded at every meal again. The entire work environment is rather dull and lacks energy (after being scolded by managers until you’re full, it’s impossible to have any energy).

You can observe the redundant employees’ behavior and have your eyes opened.

Cons

1. The company is very far from the MRT station.

2. Academic credentials are very important. For graduates of [X University], even the farts they pass smell fragrant.

3. New employees are very busy, while redundant employees with more than 10 years of experience can keep scrolling on their phones, sleep until noon before coming to work, watch videos, disappear for several hours so no one can find them, take their dogs to the groomer during work hours, or spend hours talking about motherhood, afraid that others won’t know how hard it was for them to have children back then. They also assign reports to new employees; if the work is poorly done, the new employee gets scolded, and if it is done well, they take the credit. When it is almost time to leave, they start making phone calls and slamming down the phone, lecturing the new employees, or placing a few books on their desk to pretend they are working hard, then deliberately leave late to make themselves look busy.

4. The supervisor is domineering, unreasonable, and very good at shouting. If you disagree with her, you will be harshly criticized. She also keeps talking about innovation all day—ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

Pros

1. There are plenty of bonuses and Welfare Committee allowances for the three major holidays each year.

2. Overall, the office environment is not too bad.

Cons

1. The base salary is so low that you might as well change jobs. The contract does not guarantee a year-end bonus either. Basically, it all depends on which department you end up in: if you get along with your supervisor and the department, everything goes smoothly; if not, you’d better stay on your toes.

2. You work overtime to death. It only counts as overtime when the company agrees that it is; otherwise, it is considered the employee’s problem. Overtime pay comes out of the department’s budget. Since departments do not want to bear the additional expense, they force employees to take compensatory leave.

3. Many long-tenured employees are not very technically capable and have poor work attitudes, yet they expect others to respect them. However, because they are familiar with senior management, no one can do anything about them.

1. Great views and a spacious office

2. Good pay

3. Working hours are not closely managed, but it is a responsibility-based system

Cons

1. The company is too remote; even the nearest convenience store is a more than ten-minute walk away, and prices in the area are relatively high

2. As a temp worker, unless you become a permanent employee, your salary is frozen, there is no year-end bonus, and the three traditional holiday bonuses are only a few hundred dollars or impractical gift boxes

3. Temp workers are basically treated as second-class employees and are often ordered around as assistants

4. It is very difficult for temp workers to become permanent employees. Even when there is an opportunity to do so, the KPIs are difficult to meet, and even if you work overtime, you will not receive overtime pay

Pros

1. The interview was well managed and didn’t take too long

2. The interview atmosphere was good

3. The office is in the Taipei New Horizon Building, and the environment looked very nice

Cons

During the first interview, the manager required me to be able to start in early July, but I had already informed them that I could only start in mid-July. The manager agreed and arranged a second interview. After the second interview, the manager called to ask whether I could start in early July, saying that if I couldn’t, I could not be hired. I had clearly informed them beforehand that I couldn’t start in early July, so if they couldn’t accept that, why arrange a second interview? Traveling north from southern Taiwan by high-speed rail is very expensive! The manager also knew that I had traveled from southern Taiwan, and they still had me attend two interviews, only to reject me for this reason. It was really infuriating.

The staff will guide you. Although the store manager is a bit unpleasant, what he says is factual, and he does not bully people.

Cons

The company sets monthly performance targets for each staff member, and they are quite demanding. If you do not meet them, your performance will be reviewed. Be careful to learn the workplace terminology and use it when speaking with customers.

Pros

The company is large, the environment is beautiful, and it provides a business phone number.

Cons

Bureaucratic and rigid, unwilling to accept innovative ideas, and perfunctory in its work. Few people work to solve problems. Departments shirk their work and responsibilities. Basically, the company culture means that the people who stay are all birds of a feather. Anyone looking to coast until retirement is welcome to join (but when you’re around 50, the company will pressure you to resign voluntarily, leaving you unemployed in midlife~).

Pros

The office is very spacious

Cons

1. The hierarchy is severe, and people may protect one another.

2. Overtime is required. They may gently encourage employees to take time off when appropriate, but they also worry that people are looking for jobs privately and will ask very detailed questions.

3. Newcomers have to be self-reliant. People in the department may not necessarily teach you, so you should build a good relationship with the contact persons.

4. People who are too strong-willed are not suited to this place.

The office is located above the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, with a good view.

Cons

The supervisor contacted the interviewee directly instead of going through a recruitment website, then nitpicked the interview information. The supervisor and their manager conducted the interview together. Throughout the entire interview, the manager hardly said anything. Instead, while the supervisor kept asking questions, they wore an annoyed expression the whole time. Was I there for them to judge me as if I were performing in a monkey show? They were the ones who asked me to come, yet they acted as though I had gone to the wrong place...

This shows that the supervisor is a very difficult person. The internal environment is tense and serious, rather than harmonious. Everyone looked exhausted, and they were unwilling to disclose any information about the benefits, saying that I could ask about them only at the next stage. I could broadly tell that this environment was not suitable for me. Conclusion: no response after the interview.

Pros

The interview process was pleasant. The managers I spoke with about technical matters were quite courteous, and I also had a good conversation with HR during the second interview. They asked very detailed questions. The senior manager in the third interview was also fine throughout the process. We discussed my thoughts about the company and my future plans.

Cons

During the interview process, I clearly stated that I was looking for higher compensation and benefits, and I also clearly told the manager and HR my minimum expected salary. The figure was very average for the tech industry. They also emphasized that they only have 12 months of salary, although the average is 18 months. In the end, when they called, they offered an extremely low amount. Is this a traditional-industry salary?

The work environment is pretty good.

Cons

Some people conduct interviews just to find denominator candidates, giving referred candidates a chance to get in, wasting time and a headshot.

Three rounds of interviews, but then I was ghosted at the end without receiving any feedback. The final interviewer seemed to be in a rush and showed absolutely no interest in hiring anyone. It felt like they were just going through the motions, wasting my time with the interview.

The network administrator at this company is an idiot, taking several weeks to get a firewall opened and still unable to do it. I have no idea what the hell they’re slacking off on. The network administrator is as useless as French fries.

Pros

1. Overtime pay is paid properly.

2. A company phone number is provided.

3. The work is straightforward.

4. The colleagues are easy to get along with, and the atmosphere is harmonious.

Cons

1. Almost daily overtime.

2. Requires sustained concentration for long periods while typing and entering data; errors are not allowed.

3. Days off are scheduled on a rotating basis. Since everyone wants important holidays off, they are decided by drawing lots.

4. It is a temporary staffing system; more than half of the office consists of temporary staff, and even after working for several years and performing well, there is still no opportunity to become a permanent employee.

5. The workload pressure can be intense.

Pros

The work environment feels good.

Cons

The supervisor only kept asking the interviewee about their strategies and ideas. It felt like they simply couldn’t come up with anything themselves, so they brought someone in for an interview. The interviewee had barely started introducing themselves before being interrupted. It was extremely disrespectful to the interviewee. They completely ignored the interviewee’s questions about the product and only kept pressing them about business development strategies???

The telecommunications industry is a regulated industry, so the salary and benefits aren’t bad, but it feels like a company where people go to coast until retirement.

Cons

Before going to the interview, I had already heard that the company’s products had been treading water for years. The manager for this position has issues: when communicating, they often talk in circles, gloss over the key points, and shift responsibility. Later, during the interview, I asked about a business development strategy, and the manager’s answer was more or less the same as the information I had heard: they only said they were developing a stamp-collection rewards service, while expecting the business team to tell them what to do for the rest. It’s probably better not to waste your life.

Has a wealthy father.

Cons

A very bureaucratic company that is good at maintaining appearances but cannot accept criticism, so you can't tell the truth.

Many people at the level of deputy manager and above are old-timers whose thinking is still stuck in the "discovery of fire" era. They can't do innovation; it's a case of laypeople leading experts.

The headquarters is very impressive.

Cons

They called to notify me about an interview and said they were Taiwan Mobile. When I asked about the job responsibilities, they said I would find out once I arrived and that I should give it a try. But what happened? I entered a group interview room, and the supervisor began by saying: “We’re looking for store staff. If you feel you’re not suitable for the position or that your personality isn’t a fit, you can leave now.” I felt too embarrassed to leave immediately, so I gritted my teeth and finished the interview. Naturally, my responses weren’t very good, and after interviewing me for a while, the supervisor naturally began deliberately avoiding eye contact with me or giving me disdainful looks.

Why did I ride my scooter all the way there? I wasted the trip, damaged my scooter, and spent time preparing and choosing an outfit. I’m upset with both the recruitment contact person and the supervisor.

The company will stop at nothing to avoid recording working hours.

Access control is used to circumvent clocking in and out; as soon as the end-of-work time arrives, the system pops up a notification saying it is time to leave.

However, if the work is not finished and you continue working, the company does not acknowledge those working hours.

The department budget is limited. Unless overtime is required due to an emergency, you can request overtime pay. Working late to accommodate the client’s schedule does not qualify for overtime pay.

Taiwan Mobile (excluding Taiwan customer service) operates under a responsibility-based system, so employees often work overtime, but you cannot claim overtime pay. Even though the leave system has this option, supervisors do not allow you to select it. They even “strongly encourage” employees to share the burden by using up all their annual leave instead of saving it to exchange for overtime pay.
