Pros

1. Flexible working hours; you can clock in between 9:00 and 9:30.

2. Comfortable, air-conditioned work environment.

3. The salary is barely acceptable for central Taiwan.

4. Free boxed meals when working overtime in the evening.

Cons

1. No overtime pay; it is converted into compensatory leave, which they pay out to you at the end of the year, allowing them to avoid all 1.44 times overtime-pay requirements.

2. Your review report will be altered until it no longer reflects what you wrote, and you will even be forced to sign off on it. Then you can expect your supervisor to chew you out.

3. Employees are not assigned to fixed departments and are constantly moved around, so there is no real specialization.

4. Want to learn professional skills? There are none here. They all claim they can debug—呵呵.

5. A company where everyone is a supervisor.

6. They were previously sued for excessive overtime, and now they still don’t dare let you check your clock-in records.

7. A company that cannot even afford to buy Office.

Pros

For this location (Nantou, test engineer), a salary of 14+ plus performance pay is considered high.

Cons

It is a typical family business that just happened to catch a tailwind when it was founded.

Department managers basically do not need any professional expertise. Their job is to cut employees’ pay and personnel expenses.

Can you imagine a regional manager in central Taiwan at an IT company not knowing what certifications such as CCNA, MCSE, and MCITP are?

After an employee once took the company to court (or perhaps mediation), a system for signing off on overtime was introduced. However, overtime pay is settled only once a year.

If you choose overtime pay when working overtime, multiple experiments have shown that your performance bonus for that year will be reduced by an equivalent amount.

In other words, employees are effectively forced to sign for compensatory leave, because choosing overtime pay means you will not receive it anyway.

However, department managers still do everything they can to find excuses not to approve your overtime forms, thereby increasing the available manpower.

The number of full-time employees only decreases and never increases; interns are constantly used to fill manpower gaps.

The result is like being a kitchen soldier: once you have learned almost everything, you have to leave.

But as mentioned above, the managers do not need professional expertise, so naturally there is not much advanced technology for employees to learn either.

Basically, those above pressure those below to produce test reports within impossible deadlines.

Those below (including interns), because they do not have enough time, mass-produce falsified reports to deceive customers.

This creates a terrifying balance in which those above and below collude with each other.

When something goes wrong, the people above berate everyone down the chain, then submit review reports and countermeasures to placate the customer. But it is merely appeasement.

There is no addition of manpower or any fundamental improvement measures. They continue deceiving customers and then continue praying that they will not be found out.

Employees with ability and drive, and employees with hopes and dreams for the future, have basically all resigned and left as soon as they could.

It feels as though the only people left are those like me who drag things out and coast whenever possible, waiting out retirement, along with disposable interns who are discarded once they have been used.

Pros

Stable work.

There are many good people here.

For Nantou, the lifestyle is fairly decent.

As for the salary, it’s enough to get by~

Cons

All the promises are just hot air.

The interns whose contracts are renewed are so pitiful.

It turns out the pay is only a few hundred dollars above minimum wage.

A one-year contract—good luck.

A former full-time employee who has already run away, passing by.

Pros

Flexible working hours: 9:00–9:30

And free air conditioning in the summer

There is a fairly nice view

There are quite a lot of women, though none of them are particularly attractive

Cons

This is a technology company in the countryside (a family business)

This company will deceive you by saying that new employees cannot work overtime during their first three months

There are a bunch of interns here, and the regular employees are pitifully few

Some full-time employees just play on their phones

They nitpick interns a lot

Don't expect to learn anything at this company; it's only suitable for older people to learn

This company is basically unsuitable as an internship placement. It expects interns to handle a full-time employee's workload, won't let you ask questions when there are problems, and then says you have too many questions when you do ask

As long as it's a lousy school, it will basically become an internship partner for this company

Sometimes you will hear that someone is being berated by a client

The supervisors are only team leaders, yet they openly look at stocks and don't seem to be working

People with decent abilities won't come to this company, or they all run away. Most of those who come here are from local schools or lower-ranked schools, as well as local people

The people here are difficult to get along with. Some like to report on others and make sarcastic remarks about interns behind their backs

To come here, you basically don't need to know much beyond basic knowledge. There are also people from foreign-language departments who use their time here to study languages

If you learn too slowly, people will make sarcastic remarks; if you work too seriously, be careful that people may set you up

Basically, any normal person will leave after staying here for half a year

If you work seriously here, people will nitpick you. Some people play on their phones, and then they impose all sorts of pointless rules

*This place is quite suitable for people who like making all kinds of friends; you can give it a try

Pros

A company with quite a lot of flexibility in various areas, including clock-in times and break times.

If you want to get hands-on with many strange and unusual things, this is actually a pretty good place.

Most of the work is relatively easy.

Cons

1. They come up with all kinds of excuses to force employees to work overtime across departments, with managers leading the way and looking down on colleagues who do not work overtime.

2. The fact that there is no overtime pay is outrageous enough, but there have even been cases where new hires were deceived into believing that they could not report overtime during their first three months of employment.

3. The more women there are in a department, the more drama there tends to be. Quite a few people spend their energy forming cliques instead of testing.

4. When evaluation time comes, some more unscrupulous second- and third-level managers will find reasons to deny your contributions, attempting to brainwash you into thinking that you already have it good enough and should not ask for more.

5. At the end of the year, the CEO starts saying that there is no money and tells everyone that they must weather the storm together.

6. In Nantou, some strange lower-level managers and older female employees with assistant-manager titles will frame people they dislike with fabricated accusations. Even when people from different departments have almost no interaction, they may still be singled out for all kinds of inexplicable reasons.

They have even discussed on Facebook who to target next; after screenshots were taken, they switched to discussing it on LINE.

7. The company has a rule prohibiting discussions of salary, which is used as a tool to harm people.

As long as someone with ulterior motives brings something up, it becomes treated as fact. Afterward, you will be taken to a meeting room and told about it as if they had witnessed it firsthand, then pressured to admit to the accusations they have made. If you are framed and lose the upper hand from the beginning, you will be forced to sign.

8. At the year-end banquet, they spend the welfare committee’s money to hire bands made up of clients’ children to perform.

9. Most people can interact and deal with one another in good faith, except for managers. The higher their position, the more calculating they are. They act friendly merely to find out whether you might be a potential threat or to identify your weaknesses and exploit them.

Pros

They have almost completely disappeared over time

Cons

After being at this company for a while, I witnessed the following strange phenomena:

1. The big boss is constantly proclaiming how great and profitable the company is, and how many well-known large companies want to acquire it. However, whenever bonus season approaches, they start bringing up reasons such as performance falling short by an amount as high as the sky and foreign-exchange losses, using these excuses year after year to tell employees that everyone must weather the difficulties together. The bonus that was originally supposed to be paid around Lunar New Year was also delayed, and in the end only half was paid—followed by an email loudly praising this as the company’s bestowed grace and fulfillment of its promise.

2. Among the mid- and senior-level executives, those with even the slightest connection to the boss can practically do whatever they want at the company. No matter how they exploit employees or engage in power struggles, they ultimately receive the boss’s tacit approval and support, and can even rise rapidly through the ranks.

3. Junior managers do not need to have professional expertise; as long as they find every possible way to remain within the circle of trust, they will naturally be given a stage.

4. They talk constantly about fairness and justice, but everything depends on the individual supervisor’s preferences and standards. You may disagree, but you will never meet a good end.

5. Capable and honest people are basically few and far between now. What remains are entrenched employees who want to coast into retirement, people connected to the boss, locals who live near the company, and new hires who have just been tricked into joining and will obediently do as they are told.

This company is suitable for people who are exceptionally good at flattering others, skilled at dodging responsibility, love gossip, and adore traditional plum pastries! If you also have the qualifications to clean out the refrigerator, keep an eye on the lunch boxes, and manage the restrooms, you will definitely be able to find your own place in the sun here!

I haven’t joined yet, so I’m not sure.

Cons

If your résumé doesn’t look good, they will bring it up during the interview and criticize you relentlessly. They keep accusing you of changing jobs because you lack commitment, and repeatedly ask whether you really want to join the company and whether you really want a job at their company.

I don’t know about other people, but this company made me feel as though job applicants are treated like dogs.

Being allowed to get in is a favor granted by the company to job applicants—you’re expected to give thanks for the company’s generosity. If you don’t want to do the job or have any opinions, then just don’t; it’s up to you.

It’s very pragmatic, and arguably reasonable, but it really feels terrible.

If you’re highly capable and have no shortage of opportunities, you might as well not consider this company.

Pros

Flexible working hours,

Cons

1. Overtime: if employees do not report their overtime, HR will not help you fight for overtime pay.

2. The long-timers keep a close eye on newcomers at all times. They like people who obediently follow orders and never voice any opinions.

3. The long-timers form cliques and smear outstanding employees. If they take a dislike to someone, they spread rumors and find ways to drive that person out.

4. The atmosphere at work is sometimes very poor. On some days, you may not say a single word to anyone. Some employees also have a lot of free time and spend quite a bit of it on their phones.

5. Sometimes the long-timers’ clique smears certain employees, and many people remain silent that day. The atmosphere becomes strange and awkward.

6. Learn as much technical knowledge as you can, and leave as soon as you have finished learning.

7. If everyone stays silent for too long, their communication skills deteriorate. You may feel lost at work, as if life will simply remain this way; after doing it for a long time, you lose motivation.

8. As long as you know how to curry favor and are good at talking, the long-timers will treat you well. But if you are too outstanding and cross their red line, you will be smeared by rumors and watched by multiple people... Leave as soon as you can...... The Taipei Nangang Software Park office of 104 Corporation has a very complicated internal culture, cannot retain talent, and working there too long will make you develop social withdrawal...

A family-owned business. No matter how much the company earns, employees essentially receive none of the benefits. There are many incompetent old-timers who like to pull rank. These old-timers form cliques and only like employees who are obedient, have no opinions, and follow orders without question. If you are intelligent and have ideas, you should avoid this company as soon as possible! Intelligent people and top graduates cannot put their abilities to use here and may even be regarded as threats by the old-timers!

Pros

This is just our department; I don’t know about the others.

1. Flexible working hours (seems like they’re going to cancel this)

2. The office atmosphere is pretty good, much like a university classroom. You can briefly check your phone or chat while working; if you want to take a break, you can go out and walk around for five minutes, as long as you don’t disappear. The manager won’t interfere.

3. More than 99% of coworkers are between 20 and 30 years old, so there are no older employees pulling rank based on seniority.

4. Interns can leave on time as long as they don’t work overtime; full-time employees may be delayed by 10–20 minutes.

5. Free boxed meals are provided for working overtime at night.

6. Suitable for fresh graduates to build up their skills before changing jobs.

8. There’s a 7-ELEVEN vending machine; prices are NT$3–5 cheaper than outside, but no receipts are issued.

9. Stable and comfortable.

Cons

1. The salary is far too low. On PTT, there was a case of a master’s graduate from a national university in a non-STEM field applying and being offered only a little over NT$30,000. That tells you how low the pay is here. However, if you have a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, the salary will definitely start with a 3—but only barely.

2. Overtime can be fully reported, but it is paid once every three months rather than in the same month.

3. The company does not subsidize lunch. Ordering a boxed meal costs NT$40, and the area around the company in Nantou is extremely remote, so many coworkers order delivery.

4. There is not much of a barrier to joining this company. As long as you have strong foreign-language skills or basic computer knowledge, having either one of these is enough to get in. That is why many people in the testing department studied foreign languages.

9. There are many part-time workers and interns, making up around 60% of the department. As mentioned above, the requirements are very basic, so you get people who are very strong in English but know nothing about electronics or information technology, and others who are the opposite. Very few people have both skills—and those who do would not come here anyway XD

5. Labor law requires a 30-minute break after four hours of work, but the company’s afternoon working hours are from 1:00 to 6:00.

6. A typical family-run business: when it comes to money, the people above make the decisions.

7. Overtime is very common.

8. Your job title after joining may not be exactly the same as the one you applied for; you may start as an “assistant” engineer.

Pros

I’d like to say a few words as a senior employee who has worked at this company for over 10 years.

1. The company pays salaries on time and has never been a day late paying wages.

2. The company provides 14 months of fixed salary annually, with an additional bonus given around Lunar New Year based on individual performance evaluations.

3. I approve overtime and overtime pay every month. The overtime pay is transferred to the employees’ accounts, with no need to exchange it for compensatory leave.

4. The company’s performance grew significantly in 2020 and 2021. In 2021, the entire company received a one-time bonus equivalent to 0.5 months’ salary.

5. Those with good foreign-language skills and technical abilities can proactively seek opportunities to become technical supervisors.

6. The company has a flat structure. Even the CEO is addressed directly by name, without the need for formal titles.

7. Whenever possible, try to work at the Taipei headquarters or at the Japan branch to broaden your horizons.

8. There are many opportunities to interact with major international companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Intel. Capable employees may also move to these companies.

9. If you develop strong skills, it is easy to change jobs and get a 20–50% salary increase at another company.

10. You have some personal time during work hours, and capable employees pursue self-directed learning.

Cons

This is a mid-sized company where the boss has the final say.

However, 99% of small and medium-sized companies in Taiwan are like this too—even a reimbursement request for as little as NT$10 has to be approved by the boss.

The boss likes employees who agree with him. If you do not, you should find your own way forward; otherwise, things will be very difficult.

If you want to learn technical skills, study seriously on your own. If you want to transfer departments, pursue it yourself. If you want a raise, you have to actively ask for it.

Raises do not fall from the sky; if the boss thinks you are obedient, he may give you a little more money.

Food and rent are cheap in Nantou, so you can save money.

Cons

There is no overtime pay, and everyone already knows this! As for other things, some colleagues got in through connections; they did not even graduate from university and have no professional qualifications, but because their family member is a department manager, they get along very well with the supervisors, and their performance reviews and raises look good. If you have no connections and do not get along with the senior employees, they will tell you to reflect on your work attitude. If your educational background is too strong or you have too many ideas of your own, the senior employees will ostracize you. There are very few senior employees who are easy to get along with; most are merely being polite. When new employees do not understand something and ask questions, they get criticized from every direction. If they do not ask and something goes wrong, they are then mocked: “Aren’t you very capable? Why didn’t you ask?” Those who have ability and ambition leave within six months; no one stays for more than two years. They hire a large number of work-study students from lower-tier private universities and universities of science and technology—far more than full-time employees. Their work attitude is poor, and they are constantly playing on their phones. When a report goes wrong, the full-time employees are the ones who have to take the blame. People in central Taiwan who want to stay close to home and have strong tolerance for hardship can stay.

When I was hired, I didn’t know the job title. I assumed it would be a regular engineer/specialist position. I already had several years of work experience, so I never expected to find out only on my first day that the title also included “assistant.” What’s the point of having an assistant engineer/assistant specialist title in this kind of small- to medium-sized family business? The Taipei office environment is also a complete mess. You can’t tell from the entrance, but the interior is unbelievably poor, with testing and office areas mixed together. The automatic doors constantly open and close, making an enormous amount of noise. Just walking around the office makes noise because the floor isn’t solid! If you want to join a testing company, this would not be a good choice. Having worked at this company is a disgrace to one’s career.

First come, first served—this company’s long-timers have claimed all the benefits.

At Baicha Thai, there is only one key point: know how to curry favor, know how to curry favor, know how to curry favor.

But whether you know how to curry favor or not, promotions and raises will never go to newcomers.

Regardless of whether they know how to curry favor, it appears that employees currently leave before completing two years of service (whether they are forced out or asked to leave), while those who remain are a group of long-timers who form small cliques and have an average tenure of more than 10 years.

Cliques are a serious problem here. The long-timers have their own clique for flaunting their seniority: curry favor with them and they will make things easier for you; do not curry favor with them and they will make things difficult for you.

Do not expect to demonstrate your abilities or express your opinions here. If you dare to challenge the long-timers, just wait to be smeared and attacked by their clique.

And, to be honest, many of the long-timers with extensive tenure are really very...呵呵 in terms of competence and ability.

The long-timers keep resources in their own hands and refuse to share them with newcomers, simply waiting for newcomers to make mistakes so they can take a superior attitude and lecture them. So, to be honest, you will not learn much here.

If you want to coast, relying on the long-timers’ approval to collect a paycheck and make a living, the long-timers—afraid that their positions will be taken—will not give newcomers any opportunities.

Most people feel that this is not a suitable place to stay for long.

There’s not much to be happy about. At most, you could say that the Nangang Software Park has a good environment. But that isn’t Bai Cha Tai’s doing; it’s simply because they lease space there.

Cons

1. The old-timers form cliques and secured their positions a long time ago. Most of them also lack ambition, aren’t very smart, and don’t have any outstanding abilities. As a result, they ostracize and disparage employees who are capable and ambitious.

2. The old-timers control resources and are unwilling to delegate or share them with newcomers.

3. New employees have an extremely high turnover rate and generally leave within two years at most. Meanwhile, the old-timers who secured their positions long ago live comfortably and enjoy flaunting their authority and bullying new employees.

4. There is no overtime pay, and they don’t even let you check your own attendance records. (It is said that employees previously sued them, so they simply stopped allowing employees to view their attendance records in the system.)

5. You have to curry favor with people in order to have an easy time.

6. Bai Cha Tai may be suitable for people who lack ambition, want to coast through their days, and don’t care about their salary. The old-timers only want obedient employees who know how to curry favor with them, wag their tails at them like dogs, and never voice any opinions. They don’t value employees who are ambitious or eager to learn.

7. No matter what you do, you must not outshine the old-timers.

8. The old-timers there love gossiping and lack integrity and a sense of ethics.

Since this website is about work experiences and contains a bunch of work-study students’ experience sharing, this actually shows how suitable this company is for everyone to apply to.

Think about it: a company where more than half of the jobs can be replaced by work-study students, yet is constantly hiring. This means that either the job you do after joining is at a work-study student’s level, or all the work can simply be handled by work-study students.

Hasn’t everyone noticed that the people complaining are all work-study students?

So everyone is welcome to apply to this great company.

Cons

No drawbacks. Remember to make good use of your spare time by taking on side jobs, such as personal shopping services and online sales, or watching stocks all day. It’s actually a company with a very high cost-performance ratio.

Part-time student workers can coast here until graduation; I won’t say much about why. After graduating, quickly find a way out and leave this place.

You really can stay here—depending on the department. Becoming a full-time employee isn’t necessarily better, believe me xd

I left in the first place because I didn’t want to become a full-time employee. Benefits depend on the performance review given by your supervisor.

P.S. Being a part-time student worker is easy; being a full-time employee is like serving in the military xd

I’ve currently found a job that’s better than this one, in Taichung. I’m quite satisfied with the salary, and there’s no issue with overtime. The food is good!

There are many small groups, mainly girl groups—this is an indisputable fact.

Professionalism is not the focus there; as long as you are obedient, promotion is not a problem.

Operations are often calculated at several hundred percent of target achievement, yet the profit-sharing amounts to next to nothing.

You often need to change work locations and departments.

A good place to coast until retirement.

The company benefits aren’t bad for Nantou, but there are serious cliques within each department.

Senior managers only listen to PL-level employees, who can then determine performance evaluations.

If you’re not on good terms with the PL, your evaluation won’t be good. There are no clear evaluation standards.

Tasks are constantly pushed down from the top, making things increasingly difficult for frontline testers.

You have to handle testing while also supervising student workers—hard work with little appreciation.

As for the people in the north, there’s no need to mention them. One phone call from them and you’ll never finish your work, QQ

I haven't worked in Nantou. Based on my experience in Taipei, the annual salary consists of a fixed 14 months' pay plus an X-month year-end bonus. The annual salary adjustment is around 5% of the monthly salary or less. Since this company's monthly salary is not considered high within the industry, combined with its increasingly reduced compensation and benefits, if X is not greater than 2 or you are unable to negotiate a good salary, you can stay for a few years to learn the necessary skills and gain experience, then seriously consider the future direction of your career.

Stingy—the ultimate in cost-cutting. Employees are blocked from buying things and purchases get rejected; employees == costs. Professional opinions are ignored, talent is not valued, and eloquence is valued instead.

To save on labor costs, the company makes extensive use of student part-time workers. Full-time employees’ annual salaries are not particularly high either, and now even the part-timers are being exploited.

Every department is understaffed, yet we have to fill out useless worksheets detailing what we do each day and how long it takes. They proudly believe this will help accumulate data and improve personnel management, but in reality it is all bullshit. When other departments actually need support, no one looks at this kind of thing anyway. There aren’t enough people already—who the fuck cares about this data?

The boss happily announced at the year-end banquet that the company made hundreds of millions last year [looks down at the pathetic year-end bonus...]. A subordinate immediately said, “Then I’m not signing off on that one hour of overtime.”

You are encouraged to choose compensatory leave for overtime; choosing overtime pay will get you questioned.

Overtime pay is settled once a year.

The great departments and the shitty departments have their pay and year-end bonuses calculated in the same way.

Let’s talk about the good points.

NT$140,000+N in Nantou actually isn’t too bad.

The environment is comfortable.

You can order a boxed lunch for free when working overtime.

The company takes care of lunch; it only costs NT$40.

The salary at the Nantou plant is relatively better compared with the Nankang Industrial Park. When I first joined, HR quoted a starting salary of NT$35,000, but after leaving, I heard from colleagues that it has currently been lowered to NT$28,000. The benefits have also been continuously declining (presumably because the boss is pursuing cost reduction to the extreme). Colleagues often jokingly say that this is a great place to make friends with student workers, because the ratio of student workers to full-time employees is approximately 1:1. If you get the chance, you should go in and take a look.
