However, you’ll find that when colleagues around you take leave, it’s quite likely because they can’t take the overtime anymore.

In short, the company’s transformation has failed, management is dysfunctional, and its accumulated capital is almost exhausted.

Benefits are getting worse, the number of employees is shrinking, and even managers are being laid off. The workload hasn’t changed, so naturally there’s more and more to do, while the quality of the work keeps getting worse.

The criteria for layoffs don’t necessarily depend on whether someone can do the job.

The hard work of veteran employees can be replaced at any time by fresh, cheap labor. Don’t think too highly of your job. Idealistic young people are the most foolish—you’re nothing more than human resources for the boss’s family to live comfortably off.

1. As someone mentioned earlier, the manager is the type who likes to brag. They clearly cannot accomplish three things in a day but talk as if they did ten. Surprisingly, managers like this are still trusted and assigned a lot of work. As long as they are good enough at talking, they can make it look as though there is no problem even when they do a poor job. There are also those who desperately shift the blame onto colleagues and then pretend to be innocent. Even when they have clearly done something wrong, the manager acts as if they cannot see it and will never seriously value the people who are genuinely working hard.

2. The workplace culture is full of frightening gossip: after gossiping about others together, people gossip about each other too. Even the manager likes to gossip, without realizing that people are also talking about them.

Beyond being superficial, everyone’s character is tainted as well.

3. Taking leave is made extremely difficult. In addition to asking why you are taking leave, they will try to solve the reason you need to take leave, making you feel that there is no need to use your annual leave. When you take sick leave, the manager will keep messaging you to ask whether you are feeling better, and colleagues will tag you because no one is helping with the work (even when there has been a handover—everyone still insists on finding you). I hardly ever work overtime, but I witnessed this unwritten rule firsthand).

They reviewed my résumé very quickly and emailed me the same day to arrange an interview time.

Although they reviewed my résumé quickly and invited me to an interview promptly, I thought they must be very proactive about recruiting. Honestly, how high your expectations are for an ordinary-wage part-time job is your company’s business. But if you think an applicant is unsuitable, or if you were never seriously looking to hire someone, just say so directly. Don’t arrange a time and then ask a bunch of questions, only to say nothing if you’re dissatisfied. Don’t ask whether I’m willing to do an additional assignment and then provide no further information. It leaves a very bad impression. If we’re not a good fit, don’t waste each other’s time. After this resignation experience, I believe that next time a supervisor suddenly and inexplicably asks me to leave, I’ll tell them that I still need a full day (yes, including the following day). If you really just want to make a living and are submissive enough, you can come here to challenge the boss. But if you want a decent working environment, do not come here under any circumstances. You are subjected to verbal attacks and threats at the slightest provocation. It is no surprise to see so many negative reviews. Take this as a reference.

The art department is very strong, full of ideas, and easy to get along with.

I worked on planning and served as the art liaison, but was treated as an assistant responsible for taking meeting minutes. They showed absolutely no respect for your expertise.

The supervisor didn’t even know what they were doing.

Questions raised by newcomers were always rejected.

The exact same questions raised by senior employees were always approved.

Workplace bullying (?

Some colleagues were extremely difficult to work with. The programmers were also very good at shifting blame, so in the end they would be evasive about whether bugs had been fixed.

Legendary is not suitable for people with dreams or those who want to make games.

If you just want to collect a paycheck, you can go there to be a yes-man and a sycophant. But if you want to make the games you envision, choose another company.

I skipped applying to this company when I saw the application requirements while submitting résumés and felt that I was not suitable. However, they found my résumé on the job site and invited me to an interview.

1. The interview was arranged by phone, which felt rather casual.

For other similar positions I found, they either sent a message through the job site or sent the information directly to my email through the job site (possibly also accompanied by LINE or a phone call, but there was always a record that could be checked to prevent forgetting). This was the only company that told me the time and location by phone and expected me to remember them myself.

When I received the call, I was taking public transportation... I asked them to send an email, but they said they could not. Although it was not as if I would actually forget, it still... made me question how careful this company is.

They were the ones who called me. However, during the interview, they asked questions with an attitude that seemed to say, “This person’s abilities are inadequate, huh? (laugh).” Throughout the entire process, the interviewer had a very displeased expression, as though I had come to the wrong place.

...Wait, I included a portfolio, didn’t I? My abilities are all laid out in my résumé and portfolio, aren’t they? And I didn’t apply to you, did I??? So what exactly are you upset about?

3. Even after finishing the written test, you still have to go out and find someone yourself to tell them that you are done.

At other companies, they either tell you the time of the written test and someone comes when the time is up, or you call an extension after finishing. This was the only company that seemed to forget about the job applicant.

Only talking about the art department.

The company has a fairly good atmosphere of freedom at work. As long as you finish your work on time, you basically don’t need to work overtime (at least I haven’t worked overtime more than three times in the past three years). They are willing to hire and train newcomers. Although the benefits have been shrinking year by year, the holiday bonuses are still relatively generous. For a recent graduate, the base salary is also fairly good. It is a suitable company to use as a stepping stone or a place to settle down for retirement.

The control of personnel costs is very poor, and I have occasionally heard of cases where people spent six months to a year learning 3D and were then laid off. Communication between departments is also very poor. At the non-management level, the art, planning, and programming departments have absolutely no interaction. Projects are assigned wherever there is a staffing shortage, but since the required style is always the same, there is not much difficulty adapting. It is obvious that the early-stage planning is very poor. The game development process seems to follow a “do it first and talk about it later” approach. In the end, they either spend a great deal of time revising it or scrap it entirely and start over. Overall efficiency is low and the results are poor. After making a game that even the developers themselves do not want to play, how can they expect consumers to pay for it? Besides the low sense of accomplishment, salary increases are also very slow. If you are unlucky, you may be laid off, so on second thought, it does not seem quite as stable as a place to settle down for retirement.

During my first interview, I was left waiting in the meeting room for half an hour.

After the supervisor came in, they first bragged about their own experience, then asked me to introduce myself but clearly were not listening at all. At the end, they asked questions about the job but kept repeating themselves. They even turned to the person accompanying them and asked them to figure out how to ask the interviewee questions. The other person awkwardly stared intently at the printed résumé and then said, “I think the résumé could have been written better.”

The second time I received an interview notification, the appointment was a month and a half later. When I asked why, they actually said, “Because too many people want to join our company.” Then please interview the people currently in front of you properly before saying that.

In short, this is a company that shows it is constantly stringing people along from the moment it schedules interviews.

At least you can know that there will still be job openings a month later—great.

Unannounced layoff (I had just received a NT$3,000 raise two months before leaving, and my salary was over NT$45,000 when I left. I heard that those with poor performance either didn’t get a raise or received only a small one.)

They pinned someone else’s unfinished work on me as the reason for my layoff. All I could do was laugh. When I asked, “Wasn’t that a project handled by another planner?” they actually had the nerve to reply, “Oh, really? Then I probably remembered it wrong.” Then they continued saying that I hadn’t done my work properly...呵呵. If they couldn’t find a reason, they should have just said outright that they thought my salary was too high. Even when I told my colleagues that I had been laid off and had already left, many of them were stunned and thought I was joking.

Some of the lead planners only know how to wag their tails. Many years ago, Legend may still have improved, but today Legend is nothing more than a group of yes-men who blindly echo their superiors, so don’t expect anything. If you don’t want to do anything groundbreaking, or if you’ve just graduated from university and only want to be a stable office worker, you can join. Once you’re in, just agree with whatever the lead planner says and become a yes-man’s yes-man. If you have a low salary and are obedient, you probably won’t be cut. As for those with industry experience, ideas, and ability (which may threaten the lead planners’ positions), don’t waste your time trying to see how long you can hold out.

The environment is pretty good and the atmosphere is nice. After working there for over five years, I was suddenly laid off, and then they looked on 104 for someone cheaper to replace me. It’s okay as a stepping stone, but not as a long-term job. You’ll get laid off eventually anyway, so there’s no need to work especially hard.

Interview experience: this company’s attitude was unbelievably terrible. They suddenly gave me a 200-question test covering Chinese, English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and logic, and forced me to finish it within 30 minutes. They didn’t give me any paper for calculations and told me I wasn’t allowed to use paper at all—clearly they were deliberately making things difficult for job applicants. I had arranged an interview, but the receptionist still said, “Someone is coming for an interview?” I had never been informed about this. That’s this company’s attitude: arrogant and awful. And then the employees they hire include people who can’t even draw but can still get in as artists... I’ve studied for over ten years, yet I can’t compete with a beginner who draws stick figures. No wonder the games keep getting worse and worse.

I’ll only discuss the art department; I’m not familiar with the others. The advantage is that the barrier to entry is low for newcomers, and they’re willing to provide training and mentorship. There are also quite a few highly skilled people at the company whom you can learn from. The division of labor is fairly specialized, so unless you transfer to another team, the work is relatively narrow in scope (which has both pros and cons). The deadlines for completing 3D assets are somewhat longer than at other companies, but you’re expected to make them highly detailed, and they usually go through multiple rounds of revisions before being approved. The downsides are that there’s no overtime pay (the provided dinner allowance of 120 is deducted if you work from 7:30 to 9:30), and with so many artists, promotions are quite difficult. The highly specialized division of labor can make you feel like you’re working in a factory. Even after changing the style as requested by the company, it ultimately still ends up looking like the previous game, which can leave you feeling that your work lacks a sense of accomplishment. The starting salary is okay, but salary increases have been small over the past few years. It’s fine as a first job for a beginner, but if there aren’t many opportunities to learn after a few years, you can move on. That’s about it, guys. I’ll say more if I think of anything else.
