I worked at the Taipei branch. Before joining this company, I looked up its reviews online and found a lot of negative comments from job seekers. I was actually quite worried, but I decided to give it a try anyway. After working there for a few days, I genuinely felt that my colleagues were easy to get along with, and the training was also very comprehensive. Whenever I had any questions about the work, I received complete answers after asking. Overall, the company atmosphere was actually quite good, and it was fairly open and flexible. The company culture was positive, and this is very important.

I am not an internal employee posting a favorable review. I just resigned a moment ago—but purely for personal reasons unrelated to the company. I am leaving this comment simply to give other job seekers a point of reference. The issues I had once worried about genuinely did not arise after I joined this company.

If you are easily affected by your surroundings and need a quiet workspace, this may not be a good fit for you.

This place is truly as bad as it gets, and the proprietress's stinginess is genuinely frightening! Please, everyone, don't apply here. Fortunately, I left.

1. With two air conditioners running, the company space is clearly at a comfortable temperature, but whenever the owner and proprietress arrive, they say only one can be turned on because it's a waste of money, or they quietly turn one off directly.

The boss and the boss’s wife are both exceptionally skilled at managing employees’ salaries. They even provide employees with a monthly welfare allowance for food and drinks—but it still gets deducted from your salary. Amazing!

If you earn too much in performance bonuses, sorry, but we’ll change the scheme. We need to cultivate employees’ hardworking, persevering character!

The company emphasizes an American-style environment, but it’s actually fake-American, training employees to be positive and ambitious!

The boss never knows what they’ve said, so employees are expected to remember everything carefully. Even if you remember it and the boss forgets, that means you remembered incorrectly—it was never said in the first place! This helps employees develop a cautious personality, since every meeting has to be recorded!

The company is a complete mess, and the salespeople don’t know what they’ve sold. As long as the deal is signed, that’s great! This also improves employees’ ability to respond to changing circumstances!

This company perfectly embodies the saying, “If the upper beam is crooked, the lower beams will be skewed.” The people at the very top are unwilling to take responsibility; everything is someone else’s fault or problem. But while you’re trusting the company, the boss and supervisors are privately judging you, and you won’t even know what killed you. Even the smallest matters will be exaggerated as though they could bring down the company—how malicious! The key point is that the boss clearly comes from a drama class background; while setting you up, they can also convince other colleagues that it’s your problem~

I sincerely advise everyone: The reviews here are just like those on Google Business Profile—the good reviews are posted by the company itself, while the bad reviews are the real ones, okay? This is absolutely a company you’d be better off staying as far away from as possible.

The position I joined the company for was Advertising AE. The company provided a full week of training, which seems to be different from what previous colleagues experienced.

The job requires making sales-development calls. Since the supervisor explained this clearly both during the interview and the training, there is not much room for dispute.

I don't know about the other departments.

The bonus system in our department is fairly good, with bonuses of up to 60% (compared with several other companies I interviewed with). Some senior colleagues earn more than 100,000 per month, although whether you can receive that much really depends on your effort.

I also know that a new colleague recently joined with a guaranteed salary of over 50,000. Therefore, capable people in the same industry who are considering applying may want to discuss the terms with the hiring manager during the interview.

My other impressions of working here are:

Taking leave is really convenient, and you are almost never given a hard time. All the standard types of leave are available, annual leave is granted in advance, and there is also birthday leave.

There is a welfare fund contribution of 300 per month, but snacks and drinks are provided every day (originally, there was afternoon tea once a week). There is also a monthly subsidy for colleague get-togethers, plus occasional rewards from the welfare committee (sometimes movie tickets, and sometimes NT$500 convenience-store gift cards). Personally, I think it is well worth it.

I personally try to be objective, and things at work are still OK, so I don't really have any suggestions. Overall, that's about it for now.

During the interview, the manager explained things quite thoroughly and provided the bonus calculation method. It seems that, compared with similar companies I interviewed with, the threshold in this company’s bonus system is relatively low, at around 10%. The manager said that with a little extra effort, most people can reach the target, and after asking a few senior colleagues, it seems that this is indeed the case.

Colleagues get along well, and there is not much overtime (it seems there is almost none). On-the-job training has improved, and there have been quite a few activities recently.

After all, it is a relatively old-school small company, so if you are looking for comprehensive training, career advancement, professionalism, and so on, these things basically do not exist here. However, no job is absolutely good or bad. To be honest, during my time at Lanyu, I actually accumulated more energy and had plenty of time to build up the knowledge I wanted to supplement. The schedule is flexible and there is a salary, so as a stepping stone, it is actually quite good. As for the gossip, there is quite a lot of funny stuff—listen to the boss putting on airs, then listen to your colleagues putting on airs, and that's about enough to leave the company happily, haha.

Colleagues can be good or bad. There’s no need to say much about the good ones—hardship reveals true friendship. Then there’s the kind who pretend to be friendly with you but stab you in the back, report you to the boss, and end up not even knowing how they got themselves fired. If you want to experience the darker side of workplace politics, this is definitely the place to come.

The boss really embodies all the worst qualities of a stereotypical Taiwanese canning-factory owner. Company policies change from one day to the next, with plenty of room for ambiguity that can be interpreted however he wants. This is especially true of the performance-based compensation system: whenever he realizes he is earning too little, he immediately changes it, making the terms different from what you were told when you first joined. If you are unhappy and resign, the boss is even happier, because he can directly take over your clients and their sales performance, then bring in another naïve, inexperienced new salesperson to sell their blood and sweat.

The actual duties are different from the job description, because whenever a colleague resigns, her work gets transferred to you. It is common to see one person holding several positions. The boss will use lots of promises about a bright future to brainwash you. If you are optimistic and want to take on a challenge, that’s fine—but eventually you will find that your contributions and what you receive are completely out of proportion, or that the rules have changed again and the terms have changed again.

The boss never realizes that he is the biggest problem. He blames the environment, the vendors, the customers, and the employees.

If you are applying for a sales position and still want to give it a try after hearing all of the above, be sure to ask carefully about the performance-based compensation system and the threshold for meeting targets. Then be mentally prepared for everything described above to change at any time.
