Pros

The report has no advantages.

The Taipei Station Front store is merely a facade to trick people into going inside.

Cons

Do not sign the timesheet verification form.

Head office employees will secretly alter the clock-in records in the backend.

That form is equivalent to falsifying a document.

You can record evidence of the employees’ emotional management problems

and verbal abuse.

Pros

The head office staff are quite considerate. There were small cookies and water available during the interview.

Cons

When I went for the interview, they required me to respond and interact while they explained how great their company was. To put it bluntly, it was just going through the motions. Once you actually start working, you’ll find there are a ton of rules: the hat must be white; the pants must be long khaki pants; the shirt must be a V-neck shirt; and the shoes must be non-slip white sneakers. If you’re missing anything, they’ll tell you to go buy it at NET next door. You have to understand that we take part-time jobs because we don’t have money, yet they impose a bunch of rules and expect us to pay out of pocket for all sorts of things. They also make you deal with a bunch of requirements, such as certificates of good conduct and health examinations. Please, everyone, stop going to this company. They have that self-righteous Japanese attitude, along with a bunch of inexplicable rules, and the supervisor’s tone isn’t very pleasant either. After that, they’ll even ask you to donate money. If you really want to work part-time to earn money, absolutely do not go there. Go work at a gas station or the PX Mart next door instead. I guarantee you’ll end up regretting working at 綠*食品股份有限公司.”

Pros

The colleagues are all pretty good.

Cons

1. Inconsistent in word and deed. They say one thing and do another. During the interview, they said overtime would only be occasional, but in reality, they expect you to work overtime every day. Even when it is time to clock out, they remind you to clock out, then continue working after clocking out. This way, labor inspections cannot find anything wrong, and they can avoid paying overtime, while employees have no evidence to report them.

2. You also have to do volunteer work on weekends, with no overtime pay. You even have to pay for your own volunteer uniform. Shouldn't the company provide it? If you refuse to participate, you will still be scolded and blamed...

3. Salary increases and decreases are entirely based on the general manager's mood; there is no system at all...

4. You also have to pay for the hats and aprons used in the stores (and they are not new—they are used). When you return them after resigning, if they are damaged, you will not get this money back... Isn't this effectively deducting money from employees?

5. Volunteer work and donations should be voluntary, right? Why have they become semi-compulsory?

6. On the surface, they say we are international and fair, but in reality... they suppress Taiwanese people everywhere and excessively favor their own nationals...

7. The general manager and that senior executive are both extremely disrespectful. I really want to ask them: Didn't their parents teach them manners? They say all day, “I'm teaching you...” Damn, who needs you to teach things that everyone already knows?

8. The Japanese boss is very nice, but the boss does not deal with all this chaotic nonsense.

9. The hypocritical general manager and self-righteous senior executive say they serve the employees, but it is merely empty talk...

There is too much to list. In short, I do not recommend joining this company. You will be worked to death. It is a PUA- and exploitation-driven company, and it is not worth it.

Pros

The colleagues are all very nice.

Cons

The manager is stubborn. They initially praise good employees, but eventually deliberately find excuses to defame them—for example, accusing us of forming cliques. As a part-time employee who has been here for two years, the longer I stay, the more I feel that this company is shady. No wonder the colleagues around me keep coming and going; the turnover rate is extremely high. I suggest that anyone thinking about taking a part-time job think carefully and not be deceived by their smooth talk during the interview (for example, they repeatedly emphasize how good they are to their employees, but that is not the reality. One full-time employee applied for extended leave two months in advance, but in the end they simply refused to acknowledge it and even scolded that employee for not following the rules. Oh, and they also force people they take a dislike to to resign, while refusing to let them sign an involuntary resignation form. In the end, the matter escalated into a lawsuit, but they got rid of the employee by paying only a few thousand dollars. Truly appalling.)

Pros

Cons

The interview environment and format leaned toward an open-ended style (I don't know whether this is related to Japanese workplace culture).

Throughout the interview, they repeatedly emphasized that even the company's back-office staff maintain a service-industry attitude.

They emphasized that the company treats its employees well, including employee compensation, training, and development.

(?..Why do they keep emphasizing this? Are they worried that people won't notice, or is it really not something people can feel? The employee turnover rate seems fairly high.)

Interview impression: The company needs employees who are obedient and easy to control (perhaps inexperienced and easy to deceive?).

Pros

No pros

Cons

There are honestly so many cons that I could never finish listing them!!!

1. Part-time employees have to clock in ten minutes early, while full-time employees have to clock in 15 minutes early (and this time is not paid).

2. You are not allowed to eat the ingredients at the store unless you pay for them. Employee meals cost 100 NTD and only have six options. You also have to take a photo and send it to the group chat for our “great” general manager and associate manager to review.

3. I was working part-time. Because the LaLaport Taichung store’s performance was poor, they kept pressuring and scolding the part-time employees, saying that we had not improved sales and that, with performance this bad, we had to find a way to fix it or our shifts would be cut 😑. Every day at work, we were lectured about working harder to improve sales. How much pressure do they want to put on us? Listening to this every day was really stressful. When I submitted my resignation, they called me in for a talk two minutes before the end of my shift. I said I was already late for class, but they insisted that I sit down and talk. I clearly said that I would work until 9/30, but those two “great” general and associate managers said, “You can leave today if you want.” I answered, “Okay,” and then they said, “Didn’t you say you were going to work until 9/30?” (What the hell do you actually want me to do? When I said I would work until 9/30, they asked why I would stay until the end of the month if I didn’t like working there. When I wanted to leave early, they questioned me about that too. Are these two idiots really this incapable of understanding? They just kept going around in circles.)

4. If you accidentally make a dish incorrectly, you have to pay for it at the full original price.

5. They say they treat employees well and offer high wages, but part-time employees only get 200 NTD. After passing a test, it becomes 210 NTD, while ordinary restaurants elsewhere will raise it to 250 NTD just for passing a test. Do they think they are so great? They are constantly emotionally manipulating the employees.

6. If you want to be a store manager at Sun Ramen, you have to be extremely submissive. On your day off, if you sit in the food court outside the store working on reports, you still have to come into the store from time to time to help. When the two people from headquarters come down, you also have to let them scold you like a dog, nod, do as they say, and obediently listen. Working on your day off is unpaid 😀

7. This company is so “charitable” that it asks part-time employees to donate money to charity 😑. If you refuse, they will emotionally pressure you, saying, “At least donate 50 NTD—it’s only the price of a drink.”

Pros

None. I absolutely do not recommend it, and I even want to kneel down and apologize to the scapegoat they find next... Because they were understaffed, they still wouldn't let me leave...

Cons

Anyway, just like what I wrote above, I experienced all of it. The reason they gave for firing me was also completely ridiculous. They tricked me into going to the head office for a meeting in the morning, then started saying that the accounts had been wrong ever since I joined. I had already been there for almost a year—why only say I was a problem now? (They then started smearing me and my coworkers at the time...) It was unbelievably baffling. I didn't even know what they wanted me to admit to. Stealing money? No money was missing. It was just that the machine's figures were wrong... (Later, my coworkers at the time and I discussed it and concluded that it was a problem with the shopping mall's machine.) Anyway, because they kept saying they would make a big deal out of it, I cried uncontrollably, so they couldn't get any answers from me. I cried so badly that they apparently didn't know what to do with me, so they fired both me and my store manager. In the end, no one from that store was left. Half a year after I left, someone from the company called and asked me to return my uniform, saying they would refund me once I did. So I went. The senior manager even asked whether I wanted to come back to work... (Did they think I was stupid?) Then they refused to refund me because the uniform was old and worn out?? So I argued with them. I said I had come specifically for the money; I only came because you called and told me I would get paid for returning it today. After arguing for a long time, they finally agreed to refund me... I did eventually receive it (another three months later—their efficiency is awful....

A whole bunch of unreasonable demands directed at Qiaosheng......

During the pandemic, working a full day but only getting one-third of the pay, or something like that, was also completely ridiculous.

In short, don't work there as a store manager—actually, don't take a full-time position. Part-time jobs have better options. I genuinely do not recommend it.

The operator position actually requires Japanese proficiency at the N1 level—truly an astonishing sight. The Lunar New Year holiday is only three days, and there are no cash bonuses for the three major festivals, only gift boxes. Then they keep emphasizing that they are a Japanese company, hehe.

During the interview, they said they would first arrange an initial interview and asked me to add them on LINE. After I did, they started criticizing me in all sorts of ways, saying that I’m not young anymore (32), that I have no noodle-making experience, and that I don’t speak Japanese. Aren’t these details already visible on the résumé from the beginning? Why ask me to add them on LINE for an initial interview, only to criticize me afterward? Is this just to meet a KPI or something?

High salary

Cons

For those planning to join Oasis Restaurant, as well as those who are still considering it or already working there, I would like to share the following experiences:

1. At the beginning of each month, working hours are settled. Be sure to check whether your clock-out times match the records provided by the company. If they do not match, do not sign. You must protect your own rights. The work is hard, so do not think that 30 minutes or an hour each day is insignificant. Once you sign, even if you later file a complaint with the labor bureau, the labor bureau will not be able to help you. The company asks you to sign precisely because it knows about this loophole.

2. Do regular weekly meetings not count as working hours? Any policy that conflicts with labor regulations is unreasonable and can be appealed.

3. I think it is great that the company organizes many charitable activities. I also agree to participate in my own time and do my part for the world and the planet. However! Basically, after participating, you must rush to the store to work (a 10-hour shift, including 2 hours of break time). But because of understaffing, even during break time you must be ready to get back on the floor and help at any moment (perhaps handling the register, seating guests, or preparing food). We can only hope that staffing becomes stable and sufficient. Otherwise, for stores currently short-staffed... the pressure is immense, creating a vicious cycle. You need to eat well and sleep well before you have the energy to do the things you want to do.

4. I recommend not citing personal reasons when resigning. If you do, supervisors may start attacking you (I would rather not say much about the content of the attacks), since this is only my personal experience. One example is that when I resigned, my supervisor directly said to another supervisor in front of me, “I told you from the beginning that we shouldn’t have hired them.”

If you are currently employed and planning to resign... you can see for yourself.

5. Protect yourself. When appropriate, remember to make audio or video recordings.

Also remember to photograph your clock-in and clock-out times, including the date and time. (I do not know whether this is illegal, but if Oasis Restaurant has a proper and aboveboard corporate culture, I think it would not be afraid of these things.)

Finally, I want to say this: I have consulted the labor bureau, and unreasonable practices can be reported! Workers’ rights depend on us standing up for them.

Keep going~ Especially to those Oasis colleagues who are still employed.

Pros

It can help you build your resilience to stress.

Cons

A company that is extremely good at brainwashing and moral coercion. It constantly emphasizes how good it is to you and tells you that you should give more to the company: everyone is working so hard, so you should work even harder. As mentioned earlier, employees are expected to arrive 10 minutes early, but if you are a foreigner, you have to arrive 30 minutes early. The main point is that even office staff have to train in the restaurant for three months, supposedly to understand the company’s business, but in reality it is exploitation. During the training period, you also have to attend all kinds of meetings, and then prepare the meeting materials yourself at home on your own time. Of course, there is no overtime pay. What if a meeting is held on your day off? Naturally, you still have to proactively say that you can come in, to demonstrate your enthusiasm. It’s okay if you don’t come—but then you’ll be mocked for not loving the company enough.

Personally, I think the good deeds the company carries out are commendable, and I strongly support them, but they should not be semi-compulsory. Having to pay for your own volunteer uniform is really ridiculous. Also, employees have to pay for their own staff meals, but they’ll tell you that the boss is very good to us and lets us eat food costing over 200 at half price or at a discount. The main point is, aren’t staff meals in the food-service industry usually free?

Good luck to anyone going to work there.

There are light snacks during the interview, and the introduction was very well done, making it feel like a good company at first.

Cons

I applied for a part-time position. During the interview, I was already wondering why there were so many rules that seemed to circumvent the Labor Standards Act (such as requiring applicants to arrive ten minutes early), and why I also had to prepare a bunch of things, such as a certificate of good conduct. After I was hired, they even arbitrarily changed my preferences. I originally wanted the Nangang and Xinyi stores, but they said, “Your schedule is difficult to coordinate.” What happened to the promised flexible scheduling? It completely disappeared. In the end, they wanted to transfer me to the Miramar location, where it would be very difficult for me to coordinate my schedule. Moreover, the manager there had a terrible personality and seemed determined to make things difficult for me before I even started. In the end, I chose not to take the job. This place really doesn’t seem worth it.

During the second interview, you will be asked to go to one of the stores to eat ramen, but you have to pay for the bowl yourself and write a report afterward. Looking back, isn’t this just an alternative way of using job applicants to boost sales?

During the third interview, in addition to filling out basic information, you also have to complete a bunch of tests and arithmetic problems, which takes a lot of time.

The job responsibilities discussed in the interview were different from those of the position I applied for. If they needed marketing personnel, shouldn’t they have simply advertised that position directly?

Before joining the company, people applying for all positions are required to intern at a store. I have to say that this is a very inefficient way to understand customers, because observing customers and hearing the needs they communicate is inherently not objective.

True marketing requires building a user database for data analysis. Without one, all marketing efforts will devolve into what “you think” rather than actual “user needs.”

From the way the interviewing manager talked with you, you could tell that this is a company that does not understand marketing but thinks it does.

Pros

Relatively high salary

Cons

1)Traditional old-fashioned Japanese mindset

2)I was put in a difficult position from the very beginning of the interview (When the manager handed me a business card, I did not realize at first that I was supposed to take it with both hands, so the manager held onto the business card tightly and did not let me take it. The manager only let go after I realized that I was supposed to use both hands. Afterwards, the manager said with a smile: “You should take a business card with both hands to be polite~”

3)Since I am a foreign national, I asked the manager whether the company had hired foreign nationals and handled work visa applications. The manager replied: “The issue now is not whether I will help you apply for a work permit, but whether I want to hire you. Because I feel that you are not proactive, basically I will not hire you. What role do you think you can play in my store!”

4)The manager was aggressive and kept talking about how good the company was. However, the manager came across as arrogant!

5)One final point: the interview took place right at the office desk! The manager showed no consideration for the interviewee’s feelings and openly said the above things in front of everyone in the lobby. I felt very uncomfortable and have serious doubts about the manners and attitude of a manager at your company!

Pros

All of my colleagues are very nice.

Cons

There are too many. Everything mentioned in the comments above is true.

As for donations alone, I was called in for a meeting just because I didn’t donate ^_^

They said the company’s purpose was to do charitable work.

They keep a bunch of useless managers around and say that employees can report problems to the company. The result of reporting them is being called in and scolded—being told that I have no company culture and am selfish—and that I favor overseas Chinese students. Clearly, the overseas Chinese manager was unreliable and only good at talking, yet the part-time worker was transferred away.

There are really too many things to talk about. On the surface, the salary is high, but there is simply too much work to do. The thing that bothers me most is that General Manager C criticizes Taiwanese people.

They say Taiwanese people are too free-spirited and only think about themselves. The company makes money from Taiwanese people, yet they lump all Taiwanese people together like this?

I don’t believe Malaysia doesn’t have people like that. They are also very good at sowing discord among employees. Anyone who resigns will definitely have to bear a whole bunch of criticism (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)

The boss is very nice, but the general manager is not.

Overall, it’s a really great company!

Pros

There are still a few good colleagues.

Cons

The company philosophy exists only for appearances.

If they say you are uncultured, then you are uncultured.

Those who undermine the philosophy are the company's senior management.

Working long hours is the norm for employees at manager level and above.

Having your days off scheduled by the company for meetings is also taken for granted.

Store managers work more than 8 hours almost every day.

The time-clock system even needs to be adjusted to count only 8 hours.

By the way! Employees are also expected to arrive 10 minutes early; those at manager level and above have to arrive even earlier, otherwise they say you lack responsibility.

Managers and above continue to receive Line messages after work.

How could anyone possibly balance work and family?

Managers say one thing and do another.

When problems arise, they often deny having said or done what they did.

If a manager gets reprimanded by someone higher up, they take it out on those below them.

Sometimes they even set traps for you.

Some employees are praised to the heavens at first.

As soon as something goes wrong, they start criticizing them constantly, setting deadlines, and so on.

If they want to force an employee out,

there are many inexplicable issues they can stir up, and they may even spread rumors

so that you resign on your own.

Then, if they do not want to develop you, they have all kinds of excuses.

Charitable donations should be voluntary and based on each person's circumstances,

but they compare the donation amounts from different stores.

If the amount is lower, they say the store manager has failed to communicate the culture.

If few people participate in an activity, they also say the culture was not promoted.

They only look at superficial things without actually understanding the situation.

So the company's charitable activities are just for appearances, aren't they?

There is far too much to write.

If you want to become a slave-like employee,

this is the company for you. It needs obedient employees.

Slightly higher salary

Cons

Uses outdated Japanese-style thinking and likes to constantly criticize Taiwanese people, provoking nationality-based conflicts. They also verbally bully employees, most often by undermining their confidence and then comforting them, making them believe that they will have no future unless they follow them. On the surface, it is a company that appears to care about others, but in reality, a certain senior executive really likes to spread false rumors about employees behind their backs. As a former employee, although I was never treated this way, I saw far too many employees leave in frustration because they could not endure the oppression. However, this Japanese company will consider you a traitor, and even if you want to resign, they will continue to make things difficult for you and start spreading rumors and creating trouble. If you can accept this kind of work environment for the sake of the salary, you might consider giving it a try.

The interview was held in an open space because the meeting rooms were in use (felt bad)

The interviewer was wearing a black mask, and some of the things he said were completely contrary to my résumé. I almost thought he had mistaken me for someone else (disrespectful to the interviewee)

There was also a company introduction of at least fifteen A4 pages. Several pages told me to read them myself and then ask questions. What left the deepest impression was one page stating that, after observing for six or seven years, their general manager had identified four shortcomings of Taiwanese people, one of which was a fear of failure (Were there really enough people in the sample to make such a generalization about Taiwanese people? Are there no such people in Japan? It felt discriminatory.)

My overall impression of this company was that they have a very high opinion of themselves. If you are even slightly soft, they will walk all over you
