Pros

You don't have to do anything every day; you just have to tell vendors to do it.

You leave work on time every day.

Suitable for people with personality problems, mental health issues, or those returning to work after a career break.

Even more bureaucratic than civil servants—you should definitely find a way to get in.

Cons

The pay is very low.

The old-timers are all very lazy.

Everyone in the company has very strange ideas.

Pros

None

Cons

I just wanted to find a part-time job, but they asked a bunch of questions more suited to a full-time position.

And so on and so forth.

They even asked where I work during the day.

Do I really need to tell you?

No wonder you can’t find anyone; the turnover is high.

Are part-time jobs really that difficult?

Pros

The benefits are acceptable.

Cons

At the Tucheng store's EC department, the workplace atmosphere has been getting worse and worse.

The supervisor surnamed Lin doesn't know how to manage people and lets the staff do whatever they want.

They, along with the staff members Fat Tiger and Little Fu, verbally target staff outside their clique.

When someone outside the clique makes a mistake, they don't communicate; they immediately shame and berate them.

When I reported that staff members were violating company regulations to the supervisor, nothing was done.

I was only told, “I told them about it.”

-------

They form cliques—the Fat Tiger and Little Fu group—and assign work based on personal preferences.

The department heads have held their positions for several years and have become arrogant.

They often chat with a married staff member at work, to the point that people in other departments think they are together.

They are constantly chatting together—are they that desperate for female company?

They call other people “creepy men,” but don't realize that they themselves are.

The Fat Tiger and Little Fu group are very good at verbally attacking others.

They berate people whether or not they have made a mistake, making comments at them.

When they make a mistake and are criticized, they don't dare respond and just brush it off.

Low hiring threshold

Cons

Many years ago, I worked as a summer temporary employee in the warehouse management department at the Zhonglun store, and my impression at the time was quite good.

This time, I saw that RT-Mart was recruiting summer temporary employees again, so I applied for a position at the Neihu store. The job posting on the employment website did not specify which department the position belonged to, so I assumed it would be discussed during the interview. After I filled out the information, the interviewer first asked whether I could accept restocking shelves and lifting heavy objects, and then asked whether I could accept handling fresh meat products and working in a low-temperature environment. I asked the interviewer whether restocking belonged to the Grocery Department, while meat products belonged to the Food Department or Frozen Foods Department—different departments—and which department I would be assigned to after joining. The interviewer actually said that summer temporary employees “do not belong to any department”; they would simply be assigned to the checkout, grocery, fresh foods, or anywhere else whenever there was a staffing shortage.

It was completely disorganized. Even for a summer temporary position lasting only two months, they recruited people without defining the position or department, treating short-term workers like a hot potato. If anything happened, which supervisor would be willing to take responsibility? When the information is unclear, whose instructions should a temporary worker follow first? They pay two-month temporary workers the minimum hourly wage while expecting them to handle the most miscellaneous tasks, then rush them on to the next task before they have even mastered the previous one, increasing the likelihood of mistakes. They also do not dare to state “mobile staff” on the employment website, wasting job seekers’ time. Absolutely terrible.

Pros

An extremely low-standard environment that makes it impossible to command respect—truly contemptible!

Cons

The quality of both the section managers and the store employees is very poor, especially those section managers in their forties and fifties. They are like frogs in a well, completely living in their own world and having no idea how companies outside operate! After staying comfortably in the same closed environment for too long, they become arrogant, domineering, and conceited, forgetting how limited their abilities and connections really are.

Do not forget that vendors’ sales representatives, on-site staff, and logistics drivers are also consumers and your customers once they take off their work hats. Think about the way you repeatedly make things difficult for them and show your contempt, while making the vendors handle and take responsibility for everything—and privately demanding money and fees under every conceivable pretext. Do the senior managers at headquarters, sitting high above, know what these section managers are doing? RT-Mart’s behavior is truly disgraceful!

You can interact with all kinds of people in society.

Warning: Zhonglun branch reception department

There will be a 45-year-old male staff member on duty who maliciously coughs in other people’s faces.

His mouth will be nearly 3 to 5 centimeters away from your face.

He maliciously coughs, sprays saliva, and exhales disgusting, foul-smelling breath, along with bad breath.

He makes a sound resembling regurgitation and as if he is about to vomit.

He coughs from behind your head while you and a customer are on the phone.

He may even circle around you and cough frantically.

He grabs your shoulder and coughs.

He can carry out malicious coughing to the fullest extent.

He will also maliciously and viciously insult you:

“You’re sick! Why don’t you go see a doctor!”

and use similar words to maliciously humiliate you.

He will also deliberately provoke you by saying:

“Come on! Hit me! Go ahead and hit me!”

Moreover, this is not the first time this person has done this; he is a repeat offender.

Regardless of whether the target is male or female, he has maliciously coughed at people multiple times.

He secretly does these things when no one else is around.

However, he relies on the fact that the surveillance footage cannot prove it.

In the end, the department manager always privately mediates and settles the matter.

Even the coworkers have privately been investigating court judgments because his past information is so strikingly similar to the above.

This includes his education, previous employment records, and address.

He also claims that his mother coughed at him throughout his childhood, causing him to develop this bad habit.

He will also say things like, “You don’t understand my mother!”

But the situation still does not change.

Even if you report it to the manager, you will only get one response:

“Okay! We’ll keep an eye on him.” After that, it is unclear whether anything will happen.

Pros

Pros: Get hired immediately in the interview—as long as you can breathe normally.

Train yourself to withstand abuse and develop a submissive nature.

Extremely suitable for those with strong masochistic tendencies.

Cons

1. The salary level is the same as the supervisor's IQ.

2. Supervisors like to sow discord; it's basically a drama class.

3. Most customers are unreasonable jerks.

4. Endure pressure from both customers and supervisors.

5. Colleagues and supervisors will strongly undermine you,

training your leg muscles in the process.

6. They paint a beautiful picture of benefits and make empty promises and slogans.

If you can only afford bananas, you can only hire monkeys.

7. It's always customer service's fault; headquarters and the branches are always right.

8. Constantly add new tasks until you become a multifunctional processing machine.

9. If you get sick and take leave, they may call you back to work and question whether your leave is legitimate.

10. They smile to your face but call you trash behind your back.

If you feel that you want to become a multifunctional pressure cooker,

welcome to RT-Mart Customer Service Center.

Make your dreams come true, with hope by your side.

Pros

If you’re really desperate for a job, Far Eastern Department Store’s customer service center welcomes you.

Because being interviewed is equivalent to being hired—the supervisor directly schedules your shifts after the interview.

Cons

1. The workload increases dramatically, but the pay does not.

2. The supervisor is two-faced (telling employees, “If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility,” but telling upper management that everything is the employees’ fault).

3. The supervisor likes to sow discord (saying bad things about B to A, then saying bad things about A to B).

4. The supervisor’s mood is unpredictable (suddenly flying into a rage, then asking others afterward whether they had been too harsh).

Pros

You can practice interview skills. You need to answer a great many questions

about work, private relationships, school, family...

Cons

I applied for an administrative assistant position in Anping, Tainan. The salary was only NT$22,000, and labor and health insurance were not included.

Lunch and dinner were provided by the company.

The interview took a total of 2.5 hours, but I spent almost half of that time waiting.

I heard there were supposed to be two interviews with three rounds in total, but I went through all three rounds directly on the spot.

Officially, the position was an administrative assistant, but in practice it felt somewhat like being the store manager's assistant.

The job involved helping the store manager compile reports and other information from each department, coordinating among departments to meet the store manager's requirements,

and spending one hour every afternoon helping restock products (everyone has to do this).

It was a shift-based schedule under a variable working-hours system (meaning you might work up to 10 hours, and the company would not have to pay you overtime).

At the beginning of the interview, I was asked to fill out forms and take a test (mainly to assess basic logical reasoning).

The forms required extremely detailed information, such as the salary from my previous job.

I did not fill that part out at the time, so HR asked about it and completed all the information I had left blank.

First round: HR assistant

Second round: HR department section manager

Third round: Store manager

I had to answer a great many questions during the interview.

Moreover, the three interviewers conducted their interviews in sequence, which meant I had to answer the same question three times.

For example, I was asked three times why I had moved!!!!!

About 80% of the questions asked by the HR assistant and the section manager were extremely similar.

EX: Difficulties you have encountered in life, the most memorable experiences, things at work that gave you a sense of accomplishment, and so on.

For questions like these, I found answering extremely exhausting (because I had to repeat myself twice).

The waiting time between interviewers was extremely long (I waited almost an hour for the store manager to finish a meeting... yeah).

It would be understandable if the salary were high, but the problem was that it was only NT$22,000啊啊啊啊

During the third-round interview with the store manager, I was asked questions about my private relationships and family.

I answered all of them, but I felt that these kinds of questions should not be asked in the first place...

Then I was told that the only thing they found lacking was my low TOEIC score (under 500), and asked why I did not take the IELTS.

I answered that the registration fee was very expensive (and was told, “It’s not that expensive—it’s only nearly NT$8,000...”)

Actually... if I had an IELTS score of 7 or a TOEIC score of 800, I would not be applying for a job like this paying NT$22,000....

Interview result: hired on the spot~

Pros

Before the interview, I didn’t know that the back door would be locked, so I had to ask a female employee to come and open it. The employee who came was also quite friendly (the interview location was in Kaohsiung).

The interviewing supervisor also seemed quite friendly and answered all the questions in detail.

Cons

The test wasn’t difficult; it mainly consisted of basic mathematical logic and unit conversions. Basically, there were only one or two questions I couldn’t answer.

Then, on the application form, you are asked to indicate whether you can accept shift work and what working hours you can accept.

The interviewing supervisor focused heavily on the working hours and asked whether I could accept shift work.

Because I was applying for an IT position, the job involves maintaining all of the company’s hardware equipment and troubleshooting when machines malfunction.

The supervisor said that someone would teach me how to repair the machines when I first joined, so I didn’t need to worry too much.

Because there are only three IT staff members, the shift schedule didn’t seem very flexible.

As I recall, the working hours are 6:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. on a rotating-shift system.

The supervisor said that if you work the late shift one day, you won’t be scheduled for the early shift the next day; instead, you would work another late shift after a 12-hour interval.

I asked the interviewer why the doors open at 6:30 a.m.; the company starts operating at 7:30 a.m., so preparations have to be made in advance....

The supervisor said that salary and benefits would only be discussed during the second interview. However, because I was not notified about a second interview, I don’t know what they are.

※People applying for full-time positions should first consider whether they can accept this kind of shift system before making a decision. Honestly, when I heard that the early shift starts at 6:30 a.m., I was also quite shocked. In other words, with this shift system, you are practically working all the time except when you are sleeping..

Head office: Flexible working hours; as long as you clock in for 8 full hours, it’s fine. There isn’t much overtime, making it very suitable for taking it easy.

Cons

Many...

1. Poor benefits and low pay.

2. The company is inefficient overall.

3. High turnover.

4. Department managers lack professionalism.

You get to interact with many customers, each with mindsets you might never expect, and learn many different ways to respond.

Cons

There are many problems to solve, but the main issue is still the extremely low pay. The promotion system is also very problematic; if you don’t please your superiors, you’ll never move up.

Terrible

Cons

A very bad experience applying and interviewing for a part-time job

Position: Section Manager at RT-Mart Hsinchu Zhongxiao Store

1. First, I went to the company myself to fill out my personal information. About three weeks later, HR called on a weekend and asked me to interview the next day, arranging a time.

(This was completely inconsistent with the 3–5 day recruitment process stated on the posted advertisement, if an interview was required.)

2. I arrived on time the next day. The HR part was okay, but the section manager made me wait half an hour (which felt very arrogant).

3. After waiting half an hour, the section manager asked me to introduce myself and what my strengths were—very frustrating and impractical questions. I was applying for a part-time position, not a full-time one. I am a working adult with previous employment experience, not a student or a work-study applicant! The focus should have been on scheduling availability and attentiveness at work, especially since cashiering itself is not difficult.

4. A very poor part-time interview experience. Other well-known companies are not this arrogant and self-important either.

NO

Cons

I would like to share my experience interviewing for the market research staff position at the Toufen store.

One day, I arrived five minutes before the scheduled interview time. At the employee entrance, there was a phone to notify Human Resources. When someone answered, I said I had an interview appointment. The HR representative (hereinafter referred to as “HR”) replied:

HR: You’re here for an interview? Did we make an appointment with you?

Me: Yes, we scheduled the interview for one o’clock.

HR: ...Okay... wait a moment.

(After waiting for a minute, someone came to open the door and took me into a tiny meeting room.)

HR: Please fill out this personnel information form for me. Did you bring a pen?

Me: No, I’m sorry.

HR: You didn’t bring a pen? You’re here for an interview! How could you not bring a pen?! (The tone was extremely rude.)

Me: I’m sorry.... (I rolled my eyes.)

(There was clearly a pen holder full of pens sitting right in front of us, all alone.)

.....I filled out the information.......Then they called someone......

.......Two HR staff members came in.

One seemed to be a new employee, and the other was Ms. Yeh, the section manager (the one with the extremely rude tone).

The most memorable part of the interview was....

HR: Where are you from?

Me: I’m from Taipei. I moved here recently to accompany my mother.......Because @#$%^&&^%.....I’m looking for a job here...

HR: Does your mother live here?

Me: Yes! (Didn’t I just say that? Otherwise, did I move down from Taipei to accompany a ghost? I was practically rolling my eyes into the back of my head.)

.........Then she asked some more unimportant questions......(They were all answered on my résumé. Doesn’t this show that you didn’t read my résumé at all?)

Throughout the process, I felt that she kept asking pointless, repetitive questions.......I had a very hard time holding back my laughter....The most important thing was that her tone was extremely rude from beginning to end, and her expression was awful!

I think we’re applying for a job, not coming to be yelled at by you or have our intelligence insulted, okay? Is being in HR really such a big deal? Did you open RT-Mart yourself? (This little drama kept playing out in my head.) Why does someone in the HR department have to put on such a superior attitude?

No wonder the job posting on 104 has had cobwebs growing on it and they still can’t find anyone.....

In short, if you’re going to an interview and unfortunately end up being interviewed by Ms. Yeh, your EQ absolutely has to be very high. When answering questions, you have to be extremely “direct” for her to understand....

.........That’s all......

P.S. I only found out later, after coming here, that the salary and benefits weren’t good either...How awful.

Pros

The benefits are acceptable, but the salary is too low.

Cons

The equipment at the branches is outdated, and reports of breakdowns every week are common.

New campaigns and policies often have various flaws that cannot be promptly improved (with high frequency).

Staffing has been cut to the point that the workload exceeds what can be reasonably handled. In addition, salaries in southern Taiwan are truly pitiful, so employees cannot feel a normal workplace atmosphere.

This has evolved into employees lacking a sense of belonging, merely waiting for the end of the workday, and acting without a sense of responsibility.

The company is thus facing serious internal and external problems with no remedy in sight (talking about the future all day while being unable to resolve the present).

Both its soft and hard capabilities still require more improvement than those of its competitors.

Most importantly, responses to feedback are often canned replies, and sometimes do not even address the questions. Many questions raised in meetings cannot be answered.

If the company wants to attract customers through variety, that must also be built on a solid foundation.

The dining environment is decent, but the boxed lunches are terrible. Friends considering working there are advised to bring extra food themselves.

Cons

The pay is extremely low. I worked at one of their stores in Tainan for a year and a half, and my salary was only the extremely low amount of 21,000 (before labor and health insurance deductions). I resigned because the section manager had no intention of giving me a raise. There are many idle busybodies inside who gossip about new employees, so you need to know how to flatter people—this applies to both supervisors and senior employees.

At the Dounan RT-Mart, supervisors clock employees out for them even though the employees are still working....... Moreover, employees can only choose to accrue compensatory time off for overtime; they cannot choose to receive overtime pay. However, the hours are usually not credited, or out of 10 total overtime hours, only 3 hours are credited, for example.
