about work, private relationships, school, family...

I applied for an administrative assistant position in Anping, Tainan. The salary was only NT$22,000, and labor and health insurance were not included.

Lunch and dinner were provided by the company.

The interview took a total of 2.5 hours, but I spent almost half of that time waiting.

I heard there were supposed to be two interviews with three rounds in total, but I went through all three rounds directly on the spot.

Officially, the position was an administrative assistant, but in practice it felt somewhat like being the store manager's assistant.

The job involved helping the store manager compile reports and other information from each department, coordinating among departments to meet the store manager's requirements,

and spending one hour every afternoon helping restock products (everyone has to do this).

It was a shift-based schedule under a variable working-hours system (meaning you might work up to 10 hours, and the company would not have to pay you overtime).

At the beginning of the interview, I was asked to fill out forms and take a test (mainly to assess basic logical reasoning).

The forms required extremely detailed information, such as the salary from my previous job.

I did not fill that part out at the time, so HR asked about it and completed all the information I had left blank.

First round: HR assistant

Second round: HR department section manager

Third round: Store manager

I had to answer a great many questions during the interview.

Moreover, the three interviewers conducted their interviews in sequence, which meant I had to answer the same question three times.

For example, I was asked three times why I had moved!!!!!

About 80% of the questions asked by the HR assistant and the section manager were extremely similar.

EX: Difficulties you have encountered in life, the most memorable experiences, things at work that gave you a sense of accomplishment, and so on.

For questions like these, I found answering extremely exhausting (because I had to repeat myself twice).

The waiting time between interviewers was extremely long (I waited almost an hour for the store manager to finish a meeting... yeah).

It would be understandable if the salary were high, but the problem was that it was only NT$22,000啊啊啊啊

During the third-round interview with the store manager, I was asked questions about my private relationships and family.

I answered all of them, but I felt that these kinds of questions should not be asked in the first place...

Then I was told that the only thing they found lacking was my low TOEIC score (under 500), and asked why I did not take the IELTS.

I answered that the registration fee was very expensive (and was told, “It’s not that expensive—it’s only nearly NT$8,000...”)

Actually... if I had an IELTS score of 7 or a TOEIC score of 800, I would not be applying for a job like this paying NT$22,000....
