Pros

Nothing in particular

Cons

1. Meetings tend to drag on... Getting off work at 10 p.m. and then having a meeting at 11 p.m., with no overtime pay

2. The company's policies lack a system and change constantly... It is very wasteful of labor costs, and the rules and procedures are meaningless... It places unusual emphasis on trivial details

3. A company made up of salespeople, unfamiliar with and unconcerned about administrative matters. Simply put... it looks down on administrative staff.

Cons

1. No sense of time: No one is ever on time, regardless of whom you are meeting. If you schedule a meeting with a senior executive for 7 p.m., they will generally say it is possible and adjust the shift schedule. For example, the shift might originally be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and can be changed to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, you will find that no matter what time you arrange it for, your meetings are never on time anyway. A delay can last anywhere from one and a half to two hours or more. It feels like this is the culture of the entire company.

2. Because the boss has never worked on the front line, they can come up with unrealistic ideas. The frightening part is that no one helps communicate them up and down the hierarchy. As a frontline employee, you simply have to accept unreasonable requests—consider yourself unlucky. The principal also has to ring the bell.

3. Senior employees push responsibilities onto others. That would be one thing, but anyone who sincerely wants to reform the company loses their resolve after just a month or two. In any case, no one pays attention to you = =, and they will even come up with a bunch of excuses that are not really reasons to discuss with you. Basically, even something very simple can remain stalled for half a year when you try to push it forward.

Pros

As long as you maintain a good relationship with your supervisor and spend every day shooting the breeze with him, you can easily slack off and coast through your days even if you can’t come up with a proposal—after all, you won’t have to execute it anyway. A suitable place to work while preparing to change jobs.

Cons

The company pays the minimum health insurance contribution level, and there is no health insurance during the first three days after joining. HR said this is because many people often leave before completing three days—but that’s a problem with your company, isn’t it?

Incredibly stingy: everyone’s computers are old and outdated, constantly lagging and crashing.

The emergency stairwell is piled high with trash and unusable. Moreover, the emergency stairwell is not separate from the main entrance, and there is a boiler next to the entrance selling pepper buns. If something happens to the pepper-bun boiler one day, the entire building could go down with it.

There is a bald man who uses his authority to bully junior employees, driving many people away. He also likes hitting on certain female colleagues. This pervert should be fired immediately, but the company doesn’t want to pay severance, so it just transfers the bald man around to pressure him into resigning. The bald man simply refuses to leave.

The criteria for work evaluations keep changing. People who have a good relationship with their supervisors can receive a NT$2,000 “excellent” bonus every month, while those who have a poor relationship can work themselves to the bone and not even receive NT$200, then get called in and lectured that they haven’t put in enough effort and should reflect on themselves.

On the boss’s birthday, employees are made to hold up red banners on the main road. It’s unbearably boring.

Cons

1. The environment is old and dirty… There’s mold damage everywhere, and it’s really embarrassing to see.

2. They only provide outdated contact lists. How are we supposed to achieve results by calling the same people on overused lists every day? I really don’t understand.

The company says this is training, but all I can say is that this just means wasting money by constantly replacing new hires—seeing if they get lucky and find one-in-ten-thousand candidates who can hit the mark with every contact on the list.

3. The decor is really old-fashioned. That restroom… that floor 🤦🏻‍♂️

Is it really that difficult to provide students with a comfortable space? Isn’t that basic…

That’s all…

The actual job was completely different from what was described during the interview. They act friendly to lure you in, then reveal themselves to be two-faced, which is infuriating. During the interview, they agreed that I would work in Taoyuan District and asked me to first go to Zhongli for several days of training. Once I arrived in Zhongli for training, they said that Zhongli was short-staffed and that I would remain there in the future. The job is to develop and sell courses to prospective civil service exam candidates. The sales techniques still rely on outdated methods from 20 years ago, leading to meaningless rejections. They require you to memorize all the subjects for various civil service exams and immediately write them out from memory, in the correct order. They claim the sales role is flexible, yet they make it impossible to adapt. They then criticize young people today for being unable to endure hardship, as if the manager had worked so much harder back then. The salary and benefits are not particularly good either. You have to wear formal attire and pretend to be a teacher, while being required to adopt a condescending attitude toward customers. The performance targets are set very high, and they are even harder to meet if you follow the company’s prescribed sales techniques. The office environment is very old and cluttered with miscellaneous items. The restroom is very dirty, and colleagues only give it a cursory sweep. The evening meal break is only 30 minutes, and you are not allowed to go out to eat.

I recommend not working here. The pay is low, the atmosphere is poor, and you will not learn anything. Instead of reflecting on its own problems, the company criticizes young people today for being unable to endure hardship in order to make itself look superior.

Pros

Established brand; it feels like it won't go under.

Cons

A former sales employee who lasted two months and then left here.

The advantage is also the disadvantage.

It's already such an old-established brand, yet the system is unbelievably terrible, and it also coddles the boss.

1. Effectively extends working hours. Don't be fooled by the high base salary, because they deduct two days of leave from you and then ask you to sign a document that is basically consent to overtime, to avoid labor inspections…

2. I strongly advise anyone with sales experience not to join. You will discover that the lead lists are exceptionally terrible, with all the resources held by the old hands. Newcomers are impossible to get new lists; you have to wait until the old hands no longer want to work them before you can touch them. You even have to fight over the lists—it's genuinely hilarious. You also have to go outside to hand out flyers and collect leads. What kind of old-fashioned marketing method is this?

3. They make it sound as though there will be training, but in reality they just go over the answers to the test questions with you. The rest of the time, you watch videos and organize things by yourself. After one week, you're left to fend for yourself because no one can mentor you. Everyone says they're very busy. Then, after learning nothing and giving customers incorrect product information, you still get nagged by senior colleagues.

4. At the northern campus, there's a senior colleague who wears a deadpan expression all day. If he were a passerby, you might think he was rolling around in shit?

Pros

For the first two months, they only paid a daily wage. Anyone looking for a part-time or transitional job can work there temporarily and resign as soon as they find another job.

Cons

Eight or nine tenths of every workday is spent on telemarketing, and the calling lists are difficult to work with and outdated—expired lists that have already been called to death. One student even begged me to delete their information, saying they had been called every week for the past two years and really were no longer planning to take the civil service exam.

The turnover rate is extremely high. From the time I joined until now, interviews have never stopped. Job applicants come and go like disposable tableware. I have seen far more employees resign than people I have met on dating apps. I heard that the southern branch is having even more trouble recruiting.

The salary is pitifully low at 28K, and they forcibly deducted two days of leave so we had to come to work. During the first three months, it was basically impossible to earn any commission from enrollment because we were still in training. As a result, my house almost ended up being auctioned off. The 40K salary I initially negotiated was also cut to 35K in the third month, with them saying that my performance was insufficient. How could anyone sign up after being contacted through a pile of outdated phone numbers?

The supervisors are always complaining that there are too many pointless meetings and that they cannot finish their work.

The consultation counter in the storefront is reasonably tidy, but the classrooms, employee break room, restroom, and other areas are beyond merely dirty and messy. Dirt and clutter can be cleaned up, but can you imagine a break room completely covered in mold damage?

The table I cleaned would have a layer of dust on it the next day. I can understand being told not to eat at the counter, but I cannot eat in a space full of dust.

There is absolutely no basic equipment: no refrigerator (because they say anything unrelated to enrollment cannot be purchased), no water dispenser (because they say one cannot be purchased unless the number of students exceeds a certain threshold, and if the student count is below the required ratio after purchasing one, the filter cannot be replaced), and no microwave (because it is an old building and they are afraid the wiring might catch fire).

The rats, cockroaches, and spiders have already made me numb. I comfort myself by thinking that at least being able to bring pets to work is not bad.

HR said at the time that there would be gifts for the three major holidays, but I received nothing for the Mid-Autumn Festival or Dragon Boat Festival. When I asked my supervisor, they said the company had not made any money, and also told me not to expect a year-end bonus. I was truly disheartened.

They also said that even they had never gone on the employee trip, so I should not expect too much. It seems they want to leave too; they were quite direct about it.

I originally wanted to call HR to ask whether what my supervisor said was true, but I heard that HR were also new employees, disposable like me. There was no point making things difficult for them, so I let it go.

I sincerely advise job seekers considering joining Sanmin to think twice.

Pros

There is no culture of working overtime.

Cons

1. They will not enroll you in labor insurance during the first three days; they will only pay you ($1,344/day). HR's reason is that many people previously left on their second day, so the company decided to insure employees only after the first three days. HR will also tell you that after the first three days, they will give you a formal short-term employment contract to sign, but they do not.

2. The insured salary bracket is set at the minimum.

3. They use an old-fashioned time clock. At the end of the workday, everyone has to queue to clock out, and the time clock is delayed by 1–2 minutes. This is taken into account when clocking in, but when clocking out, you have to wait.

4. There is a 10-minute monthly lateness allowance; exceeding it by even 1 minute results in a direct deduction of 1 hour.

5. The smallest leave unit is half a day (4 hours). For example, if you accidentally clock in 1 minute early, it is considered leaving early. HR will tell you that if your supervisor is unwilling to sign off on your time card, you have to take personal leave, resulting in half a day's pay being deducted directly.

6. Leave must be requested in advance. For example, if you want to take Friday off, you must notify them one week in advance. If you are taking several consecutive days off, you must notify them at least two weeks in advance; otherwise, the leave will not be approved. HR will say that if you want to take more than a week off consecutively, such as for an overseas trip, the boss will not approve it without advance notice.

7. At the end of each month, you must handwrite a paper shift-change form and also fill out a simple time-clock record in the system to facilitate HR's work.

8. The salary is paid in two installments (on the 5th and 8th), and the money is not credited until close to midnight that night.

9. The break room is very old and has a very poor appearance.

10. There is no toilet paper or hand soap in the restroom; all basic supplies must be brought yourself.

11. The office software (Word and Adobe) is outdated.

12. It takes a very long time to activate internal communication accounts. (If it happens quickly, you are lucky; otherwise, waiting for more than a month is normal.)

13. When you first join, they will first ask you to take an exam on trade secret regulations.

Pros

The HR staff were quite polite.

Cons

After the company’s HR department found my résumé on a job bank, they sent me an invitation and even thoughtfully called me first to explain the position. So I thought I’d give it a try and agreed to an online interview.

However, the manager conducting the interview immediately said that the job might be different from what I had imagined, and told me not to be attracted just because their base salary was high. They felt that, with my educational background and experience, I should be able to find another job with much better compensation. I was completely confused. You were the ones who invited me to the interview, and then the entire so-called interview was spent trying to discourage me from applying—what was the point?

I thought this farce had ended there, but the strangest thing was that about a week later, HR contacted me again to ask whether I was interested.

I really don’t understand at all???

They talk a lot about the company's business plans and so on, making them sound grand. The salary on the job website looks okay, but in reality, advertising a high salary is completely useless. The second interview was a video call with the so-called boss. It felt terrible. He just kept talking at the screen, then muted himself and listened to you until you were finished.

He has several companies and branches, and so on... The situation was the same everywhere.

I previously went to one of the company’s branches in southern Taiwan. Although an interview time had been arranged, they made me wait at the reception desk for a full half hour. The job duties, salary, and bonus system were explained very unclearly. Training was required in Taipei. New hires were paid a daily wage during training, but were not covered by labor or health insurance. The interviewing manager kept bragging about his own performance and sarcastically said that I was not the type he wanted; if it weren’t for my young age, he would not have considered giving me a chance. During the two days I was there, they repeatedly asked me to do miscellaneous tasks such as sweeping the floor, folding flyers, and taking out the trash. I advise anyone interested to think twice.

A written test is required:

1. Basic computer operations, such as keyboard shortcuts and file-saving formats.

2. A personal questionnaire, such as the advantages and disadvantages of your previous job and the ranking of your expectations for this job (salary, job content), etc.

There are two interviews. One interview is held on the same day as the written test, but basically, the interviewer in the first interview cannot answer questions about salary, job content, and so on, or provide definite answers. I feel this is simply a waste of the interviewee’s time. Therefore, I do not recommend going specifically to interview at this company on that day, or you will regret it.
