I worked in event-based sales, where high performance bonuses were used to attract job seekers, but in reality, they were practically impossible to receive. At the time, I was told that I could earn as much as NT$7,000–8,000 in performance bonuses per event. After the event ended, I checked my bankbook and found only a few hundred dollars—less than NT$500. Our sales performance was actually not bad, and we often met our targets, but in eight or nine cases out of ten, the bonuses were taken by the full-time employees. (Department stores usually do better business in the evening, so the full-time employee would almost always have me work the morning shift while she worked the evening shift.) They also didn’t pay anything extra for the final day of dismantling the counter. (I asked around, and the usual rate for dismantling a counter is NT$500.)

During sales, we were constantly required to call out to customers, and we weren’t allowed to speak too quietly. They treated the department store like a traditional market, which made the employees at the neighboring counters extremely annoyed.

I was once sent to support another counter. Although it wasn’t far from my original counter, the full-time employee didn’t want to go herself and sent me instead, simply because that counter’s sales had always been poor. I worked the entire shift alone that day, with no one to train or guide me, and even had to ask someone from a neighboring counter for help (they used a different POS system). Naturally, sales were poor that day too, but at least we exceeded NT$10,000 because a customer bought quite a lot of things. When the full-time employee found out, her first reaction was: “Without that order, your sales could never have exceeded NT$10,000 today.” Hello? What does my sales performance have to do with you? Are you just upset because you didn’t get that order? Why don’t you mention how much bonus money you usually take away? Is money all that’s left in your brain?

In short, this company is truly awful. I couldn’t take it even as a part-time employee, so I imagine it must be even worse for the full-time employees.

Anyone who wants to apply should fend for themselves, haha.

Labor insurance provided

Cons

The interview location is in Ximending rather than at the head office

The interview lasts approximately 1 hour (discussing your previous work experience)

Labor insurance is provided, but not health insurance

The hourly wage is calculated at $140

In principle, shifts do not exceed 8 hours (because they do not want to pay additional overtime)

However, the 1-hour meal break does not count toward the hours (making it 8+1)

Today’s target is set based on the actual daily performance from last year

If you achieve it, you can receive a commission

(But they did not clearly indicate the range or what percentage could be earned)

There is training beforehand

On the condition that store staff have time to teach you

However, during the internship,

customers may suddenly increase in number,

so you have to help serve them

Even if you know the answer,

you may still be scolded and told that newcomers should not answer questions 😰

This is to avoid careless answers damaging the professional image

Moreover, there are very few people who actually teach product knowledge

The others only know things themselves and do not teach others

I thought that making any sales at all would already be good

If you are hoping to earn a commission, I think you can forget it

The most outrageous part is that the training requires you to follow senior staff

Wherever they go to provide support, you have to follow along

You pay your own transportation costs and look up the locations yourself

E.g., Jiufen, a place specializing in taro balls

If you still have a fearless, hardship-enduring spirit,

this is very suitable for you

Pros

The colleagues are all very nice. When someone is too busy, everyone helps out and does crafts together—in simple terms, we work overtime together.

The company is in a great location, right across from Huashan. As long as you don't face the company, your mood will be pretty good.

Cons

I originally thought I would just leave it at that after resigning.

But I happened to see an “employee” saying that the company was great, and I really couldn't resist replying...

The company's biggest problem is the supervisor (I really had very little contact with the chairman).

To be fair, the supervisor is quite diligent and researches a lot of information, and his EQ is also fairly high.

But he really has very little ability to make decisions, and his skill at going back on his word is truly first-rate.

He often completely forgets things that were decided just a few days earlier, or says that he never made that decision.

When two or more people call him out at the same time, he gets flustered and angrily says, “You guys misunderstood what I meant~”

Because many people at the company are in their first job, there is often this illusion of, “Eh, is it my problem?”

But when you seriously investigate, it really isn't that we misunderstood him (the results of the previous discussion were already written on the office blackboard, and he still denied them).

As a result, everything has to be printed out for him to sign, because without his signature, he can change his story however he wants.

And yet, apart from the chairman and general manager, this company has no other lower-level managers, while they insist on micromanaging every little thing.

They keep changing things until the schedule is completely blown, then change them again, and finally add, “It's not like I enjoy going against you guys.”

Every time they talk to employees or vendors, they say, “We're a small company, so everyone has to do everything,” but sometimes they also say they are a large company of this scale.

I find it pretty funny. For people of our generation, Guo Feng Xiao Pu was very famous when we were kids; only later did I learn that it was also famously bad within the industry.

Then there's the high employee turnover. People keep getting replaced until eventually hardly anyone has experience handling seasonal projects.

But I don't think the supervisor or boss cares at all. New people will always be tricked into joining anyway, and those who can't stand the exploitation or want to communicate are dismissed, as the people above said, as unmotivated and unable to endure hardship.

Then there's the issue of working hours. During the interview, they said the workday was from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and even confidently claimed, “We really don't like working overtime; all the computers shut down at 8:00 p.m.~” That was complete nonsense. Even if the computers shut down at 8:00, you can simply extend the time afterward—rules are made to be broken, aren't they? Regarding the “employee's” claim above that there is no unreasonable overtime, I think paying overtime is a basic legal requirement, right? So, was it paid? It took forever to get a pay stub, and apparently the entries on it were a complete mess too, right? Was the salary actually paid accurately? I seriously doubt it. Leaving work on time is practically impossible. We even came to the office on our own on holidays to work overtime and still couldn't finish everything. What exactly counts as “reasonable overtime”? Is it reasonable to notify us before we get off work not to do those things anymore and to work on something else instead? Is it reasonable to change things at the very last moment before the deadline and then make the sales team deal with the vendors and store staff like that?? Supervisor, I think you fundamentally don't understand what those of us who resigned are thinking. We aren't unwilling to work overtime; we are unwilling to spend every day doing “meaningless” overtime, understand?? Do you know how many employees' relatives and friends were so furious that they told us to quit or wanted to help us report this company?

Regarding the position itself, I was in the design department, so I'll describe what I experienced.

The company's computers are truly terrible. Every time I save a file, I have to pray that the computer won't crash. We probably spend an entire morning every day dealing with this kind of situation. And seriously, what year is it now? The design department's computers are still running CS4.

The supervisor's most classic line is: “Not enough memory? Then why did you open such a large file?”

And also: “Hey, about that letter spacing—press it once and then press it three times so I can see what difference it makes.”

What I can't stand most is that they always think design and planning can proceed simultaneously. Without copy or even knowing what the product is, how are we supposed to work? Design and planning staff are constantly assigned, for no apparent reason, to join some project. The most outrageous part is that there is no project proposal or meeting record at all, and then the supervisor is always fixated on some stupid work order. He even has the nerve to lecture employees that we're no longer in school, when even college students know they need to write a proposal for their graduation project. What's more, after all the revisions, they often still use the very first version, because the supervisor doesn't know what he wants in the first place.

Finally, please—this platform is Job Eye, right?! What employee would come on here and say their current or former company is awesome?! Even if the company really is great, people would just enjoy it privately; why share it with others?! Could you be any more ridiculous??

Pros

Whenever I encounter something uncertain or unclear at work, communicating with my boss always results in a helpful response. Compared with the other employees, I have relatively little work experience, and my colleagues are always willing to offer guidance. I feel that the work environment is good.

Even in such a large-scale company, I can still learn many different things at the same time. Unlike at typical large companies, where you learn only what is related to your position, I think this is truly rare and valuable. I also have decision-making authority and the ability to take action on many matters. As long as I maintain the right attitude toward work, working at this company can provide a strong sense of accomplishment.

No job is effortless; if you want to do your work well, you have to put in the effort. This company does not suppress its employees or ask them to do unreasonable things, and any ideas can be discussed directly with the boss.

Cons

People who are unwilling to learn and only want to work nine to five while merely moving a mouse may find it quite demanding.

Pros

If you enjoy learning, are ambitious, or are passionate about your work, 菓風 is a very suitable place to work.

The company gives employees considerable room to express themselves and opportunities to be creative. In general, as long as you complete your own or assigned work within reasonable working hours and before the deadline, there will not be unreasonable overtime. If you have new ideas or proposals, as long as they are appropriate and suitable for the company, the company is also very willing to accept them.

What this company emphasizes is not the length of time spent sitting in the office, but the efficiency and quality of completing work. If you have questions about the overall direction of an assigned task, your supervisor will be happy to answer them. They will also provide opinions on other details while giving you considerable room to develop your ideas.

Basically, if your work attitude and way of handling things are appropriate, you will not encounter unreasonable or deliberately difficult treatment.

If you maintain enthusiasm for your work and a willingness to learn, even as a new employee, you can learn many things at this company that new employees would not normally have the opportunity to learn.

In my opinion, 菓風 truly provides many learning opportunities, and you can gain a great deal of valuable experience in a short time. As long as you are willing to learn, the company will selflessly provide you with many experiences and opportunities.

Cons

If you know that you are someone who lacks ambition and a willingness to learn, I would not really recommend working at 菓風.

Colleagues can complain about the boss together

Cons

This boss is basically driven by an inferiority complex, which makes him want to throw his weight around in front of employees, but he is full of obvious flaws.

He keeps saying that the colleagues’ habit of regularly working overtime is terrible! The next day, he changes his tune and says that overtime at the company is inevitable and unavoidable. Every time a submission is about to be made, he makes major revisions at the last minute, forcing colleagues to work on holidays, and then ultimately says it is not important and does not review the work with employees. Every day, he contradicts what he said the day before. When he says something wrong, he refuses to admit it and gets defensive. He does not act like a boss at all; he even puts his feet up on the table during meetings, showing no manners whatsoever.

He treats employees with little work experience like idiots, while he cannot accept the advice from more experienced employees because it is too honest.

This boss only wants to hear what he wants to hear and does not want to listen to suggestions. What he wants is obedient slaves, not employees who want to help the company grow.

If you want to see how inefficient a company can be, how immature a boss can be, and how terrible the equipment can be... this will be a legendary company that opens your eyes.

Pros

The boss maliciously discriminates against people who are overweight and casually fires employees for not looking attractive. Someone once filed a lawsuit, which was covered by Apple Daily. Every marketing team hired is dismissed and given a hard time under various pretexts after completing a specific phase of work (e.g., the Christmas campaign).

The working hours are extremely long every day. Anyone who does not work overtime until after 8–9 p.m. is fired at the end of the probationary period.

The lack of a two-day weekend can be tolerated because it was clearly explained during the interview that Saturdays involve a half day of work. However, once you go to the office on Saturday, you are not allowed to leave. If you do not stay until the evening, wasting time with the company’s bored boss, you are considered a bad employee and fired.

The bosses only recruit people from prestigious universities at home and abroad, exploit employees, then force them to resign using other excuses, and take the ideas employees propose as their own. It’s terrible, terrible, terrible. They seem nice to store staff, but they never consider the store staff’s future development or training, treating people as disposable materials.

Please think carefully before applying.

1. The boss considers themself to have exceptionally refined taste and loves revising drafts. They also often start making major revisions or holding meetings right before the end of the workday, so overtime is the norm. Overtime pay? Being willing to work overtime is simply part of being serious and responsible—why should you be paid overtime?

2. Every trivial matter has to go through the boss, but the boss often hesitates and cannot make decisions. There are minor changes every day, a major change every two days, and an absolute complete reversal every week, causing the overall schedule to be delayed. Whose fault is it? Of course, it’s the employees’ fault!

3. Employees may suddenly be told on the day of work to support the opening of a new store. Once they arrive, however, they do not know what work they are supposed to do, so they can only handle miscellaneous tasks. The key point is that the work will definitely be dragged out until very late; sometimes employees even have to spend the night in another county or city (without prior notice).

If you have an excellent EQ, want a decent salary, can occasionally stay at the company until very late, and can accept sometimes suddenly being unable to go home at night, you might consider coming here to hone your skills (wink).

The biggest problem with this company is the boss, who has absolutely no respect for employees and thinks they are all idiots, often using humiliating language when speaking to them. On the surface, the boss keeps saying that employees do not need to work overtime, yet will call them in for meetings after work, with each meeting lasting several hours. The way things are handled is extremely inefficient and the management style is highly authoritarian; every matter, big or small, must be approved by the boss, and there is no middle management.

The boss is very good at making things difficult for employees. Besides requiring overtime, they also hold monthly criticism meetings to berate employees.

During major holidays like Halloween and Christmas, employees have to support stores everywhere day and night.

A completely ridiculous company

The boss’s famous quote is: “What is the Labor Standards Act? The government is just making a mess! You’re not laborers; you’re creative people. Working overtime is only natural!”

1. No compensatory leave for overtime 2. No overtime pay 3. Overtime is the norm of all norms

Sometimes working until 11 or 12 p.m. is considered normal!

Sometimes you have to help with department-store counter setups or new-store openings until two or three in the morning, but you still have to show up for work on time the next morning!

The boss is extremely disrespectful!!
