I am the lowest-level warrior in a double-outsourcing arrangement. Officially, I am attached to Company A, but in practice I am dispatched to Company B,

then thrown into some project, with an unknown number of layers of people taking cuts and exploiting me along the way,

while the responsibility weighs on me like it does on an electric utility company.

The HR person responsible for coordination is Lynn from a company whose name contains the character “帆.” She knows nothing about the project,

nothing about the process, nothing about the requirements, and nothing about the working hours, yet she just keeps putting on her performance!

I simply want to see how much longer she can keep it up.

The entire team culture is like a chaotic brawl among river gods, demons, and monsters.

A department director below them throws reports to subordinates to complete every day, then has a pile of opinions after they are done,

leading to endless rounds of revisions. The most disgusting part is that they like to directly lose their temper and yell in the office,

leaving people not the slightest bit of dignity. No one is allowed to rest until midnight, while messages keep coming nonstop: “Is it done yet?”

“Why haven’t you finished revising it?” “This is urgent.” But the actual requirements remain unclear from beginning to end.

Managers fight among themselves, managers fight subordinates, managers fight across departments, and subordinates fight one another too.

Every day is like a palace-intrigue drama, with the air filled with the feeling of who will be dragged out as a sacrifice today.

The business direction has been full of incorrect information from the very beginning: today it is A, tomorrow it changes to B, and the day after they say it was actually C.

After things blow up, the manager’s first reaction is never to solve the problem, but always to find someone to blame.

After staying there for a long time, you realize that taking screenshots to protect yourself is practically a survival skill. Because compared with solving problems,

some managers would rather solve you. The work naturally involves a great deal of trial and error, but as soon as the numbers look bad,

they immediately start digging up old records and looking for someone to take the blame. So I strongly recommend: screenshot and preserve evidence of every request, every conversation, and every instruction.

If you do not keep a record today, it may become your fault tomorrow.

Only in the end did I understand: this is not working on a project, but playing a high-difficulty survival game for an exploited office worker.

It is just that while others are heroes fighting demon kings, the hero here fights process chaos, responsibility-shifting,

managers who have failed at emotional management, and an HR performance that never seems to end every day.

Pros

Remote work, saving commuting time and transportation costs

If you’re not used to working remotely, you can go to the office and enjoy the air conditioning

The online friends you regularly dine with finally become colleagues

But completing projects comes with bonuses—the key factor in deciding whether to supersize your fries every month

Employees with more than three years of experience receive various subsidies, making all those years of sticking around worthwhile XD

Employees also have priority in subscribing to shares when the company goes public

Being located above an MRT station makes commuting to the office very convenient

You get a day off for your birthday, which is better than what is required by the Labor Standards Act

The overall compensation is acceptable

Cons

The year-end party is supposed to bring employees together, but it was organized somewhat carelessly. The prizes could be more generous.

The push to go public is moving very quickly, and the workload changes accordingly.

With remote work, colleagues may leave before you’ve ever met them, or you may forget what they look like after seeing them only a few times.

The product is extremely flexible and powerful, but the level of customization is too high, turning it all into hard work for the employees.

Pros

Remote work; basically, you can plan your work yourself.

As long as you finish the project within the given period, basically no one will bother you.

Cons

1. The year-end party is extremely, extremely boring, and the prizes are so poor that they make you wonder whether the company is actually making money.

2. The SAs and PMs are extremely ridiculous. Basically, they operate on the concept that “the customer is God” when taking on work. It may even happen that you discuss A with the customer but come back and actually have to do B.

3. They say that you can raise questions and opinions, but once you actually do, quite a few people will stab you in the back. As for what senior executives say, you can only agree; otherwise, you’ll be blacklisted to the point of shining.

4. Performance evaluations are basically ranked according to seniority. Don’t assume that working hard will make any difference.

5. The work assignments are extremely chaotic. On the positive side, you may be able to learn a lot; plainly put, things are randomly dumped on whoever can handle them.

Pros

Terrible

Cons

The job I applied for was completely different from the actual duties.

I was paid an assistant’s salary while directly doing a PM’s work.

I was also reprimanded for not answering a client’s call after work.

Fortunately, I’ve left. The client was acting like a lunatic.

Pros

1. Working from home, flexible hours are awesome (when you’re not visiting clients, you can sleep in and work without pressure)

2. Overtime is paid, so working overtime is totally worth it anyway (I’ve heard that people who report too much overtime get questioned)

3. If you’re too capable at your job, you’ll end up with more work than you can finish. Knowing when to play it safe is much better than striving for recognition.

4. If you’re a junior employee, you can learn a great deal because everyone above you is a proxy server

Cons

It’s basically a low-key, comfortable company. If you want to strive, stand out, and move up, be mentally prepared for it to be very demanding. Speaking from experience: it’s best to put everything in writing when discussing anything; otherwise, be prepared for things to be overturned.

If you don’t have any particular ambitions and want a stable life, it’s a good place. However, the turnover rate has been very high lately, and almost everyone on the front line has left. It feels like things are about to get difficult.

Pros

1. Work the same day; if you work more than 8 hours, you can claim overtime pay (if the reason is legitimate).

2. Transportation expenses for business trips can be claimed (you need to provide itemized details with the application, and the expenses can be reimbursed). It can be done online, which is very convenient.

3. The company continues to work remotely (I think it started when the pandemic broke out last year; now everyone is happily watching dramas and playing LoL at home (just kidding)).

4. Work starts at 9:00 a.m., with a 30-minute grace period for clocking in. You can clock in via the app, which is very convenient (just tap your phone after waking up, then go back to sleep—LOL XD).

5. You get three free clock-in corrections per month (very convenient if you oversleep or forget to clock in while you're out).

6. Everyone has to fill out xplanner every day. Since last year, the company has assigned employees to compile statistics on what each team’s employees have done every month. In addition, there is a fixed performance review every year (you fill in what you did today or this year; it does not mean you will get a raise).

7. If a team achieves its target revenue, there is a bonus (employees may receive several thousand or several hundred dollars, depending on the actual profits and each project’s contribution, which are then divided among them).

8. There is no factional infighting at this company, so you do not need to worry about conflicts with others. If things go smoothly, you can work steadily (if you can withstand it XD).

Considering the points above, for a small company that only went public on the Emerging Stock Market last year, the benefits really aren’t that bad.

Many small and medium-sized companies still do not offer these suggested benefits XD.

As for the work:

Engineers can learn many basic things

(such as setting up system environments, software development (full-stack), and testing—in short, many things.

For the most part, you have to rely on yourself to Google and research. You can learn a lot of surface-level knowledge, but you may not become proficient in everything; it depends on your own abilities).

As for PMs and SAs:

In recent years, many things here have relied on engineers, but people have come and gone, and many have left. To be honest, there is no real standard here. I can’t think of many advantages. Anyway, for PMs and SAs, encountering a reliable engineer can be summed up in one word: awesome.

I’ll leave the other advantages for someone else to add XD.

Cons

There are actually many disadvantages!

Problems that still exist at the company:

1. The turnover rate among engineers and general staff is extremely high, and there are major gaps between projects.

The employee ID numbers have already approached 900, but there are only a little over 130 employees.

(Engineers generally stay for about a year before making their own plans, because they know too many of the truths.)

2. It is very common for one person to handle multiple roles (the job descriptions on the job bank are just for reference).

(Senior engineers handle almost the entire process, from installing and setting up environments to discussing requirements and development—everything has to be done themselves.)

While handling other issues, they also have to answer their supervisors’ questions XD (I have to ask: do employees earn more than their supervisors? XD)

Supposedly, team leaders and supervisors get an extra NT$10,000. All I can say is that the employees have it tough.

3. The company really likes hiring newcomers.

From the supervisors’ perspective, this can help the company save on personnel costs.

From the employees’ perspective, many people agree to the offer because they want to come in and learn (each side gets what it needs XD).

4. For most employees, base salaries and year-end bonuses are never equal.

(Unlike the tech industry elsewhere, most employees here do not even receive two months’ worth of year-end bonuses.)

Supposedly, some people are guaranteed two months, while others’ base salaries are almost at the ceiling XD.

There are many more details as well.

If you are considering this as a long-term option, I do not really recommend it. Given the company’s current situation, things are not good in many respects.

Some positions have been vacant for years because the company cannot find anyone.

It just keeps exploiting the existing workforce. If you have ideas, I suggest moving somewhere else—it would be easier there~

Remote work is available

The workplace is close to a metro station

Cons

Only ten percent of employees receive a raise each year, so you can imagine that your turn will never come

The bonus is only three digits after being divided up—is this supposed to be charity?

How desperate for money must the company be to sell the snacks from the Pudu ceremony to employees?

There were no benefits at all for working remotely during the pandemic, and they kept deducting benefit fees

Two of the three holiday cash gifts are only three digits

The employee travel subsidy requires you to use your annual leave before they will give you a little more money

You never know what the supervisors are doing; the only people who are busy are those below them

Turnover is extremely high in every department; most employees are recent graduates and naive newcomers

The loud-voiced salesperson is a lout

Pros

A great place to wear yourself out mentally and work yourself to the bone

Cons

Treats entry-level employees as disposable. Unable to recruit enough people, it keeps exploiting existing employees, with waves of resignations all year round. Those at the top frantically take credit when things go well and are obsessed with self-glorification; when a project goes wrong, they disappear or suddenly develop amnesia and make all kinds of excuses. The culture of ingratiation makes the atmosphere thoroughly toxic, yet management can still smugly congratulate themselves while turning a blind eye.

Pros

I really can't think of any advantages.

Cons

The company contacted me to say that they had seen my résumé and wanted to interview me. On the day of the interview, the manager suddenly had an urgent meeting, so they found a foreign employee to chat with me and introduce the company. However, the HR team really failed to coordinate the timing properly, leaving me waiting for nearly an hour. Then, after scheduling a time for the next interview with the manager, they stood me up that day! They didn't respond to my emails or phone calls either. This company is truly awful 👎

Pros

As a consumable, it therefore won’t fail.

Cons

A lot—far too much.

1. Eight out of ten people in the HR department are garbage. I won’t name anyone, but the tall one with a skeletal build is completely mentally unstable, because they kept changing the employment conditions after I started working. I also heard from colleagues that they deceive foreigners. Recently, a foreign employee was fired.

But it was too pitiful: no one trained them properly or taught them anything. They were treated like cattle being herded in Australia, and then immediately fired.

Because useless consumable products, or people who have been used up, are immediately discarded.

The company owner’s thinking is extremely problematic. They have no intention of cultivating new employees, yet demand performance… Is their head full of shit? How can they… teach us nothing, act so arbitrarily, and casually fire people at short notice?

Everything discussed during the interview differed from what happened later, including the pay. The bonus was only for one month, even though the interview stated two months. Fraud. As for employees of certain nationalities, they also deceived them regarding visa issues.

I just mentioned that a foreign colleague was deceived by them three times.

It seems they didn’t want to pay him, but they exploit this tactic because it is very difficult for foreigners to find jobs, so they have no choice but to accept all of the company’s demands. In short, it is intimidation.

The people in the HR department all have mental problems.

During the interview, the interviewer said that he had been asked to come at the last minute and was somewhat unclear about the situation... It gave the interviewee the feeling of being disrespected.

Additionally, the interviewer mentioned that internal overtime was very serious and that there was not much of a system in place... (Are they really recruiting talent? Haha.)

Still, they did honestly explain the company's current problems. It feels like there are many problems, haha.

If you are an experienced job seeker, I suggest not wasting your time going to the interview.

Pros

1. Colleagues get along well #It’s probably because we have a common enemy

2. Engineers have fairly high status and can also learn quite a variety of miscellaneous things #You just have to do everything yourself~

3. Good technical capabilities; they use open-source projects and turn them into products for sale

4. Complies with the Labor Standards Act; everything they are required to provide is provided #Sigh, is this really considered a benefit?

Cons

1. The top management generally does not understand the principle that authority and responsibility are interdependent. They enjoy the benefits of authority without wanting to take responsibility; after apologizing and patting subordinates on the back when problems arise, they continue doing things their own way

2. The PM department is a complete mess. People who join are basically treated as units of labor (pre-sale / SA / PM are synonymous in many situations, just pronounced differently)

3. Human-centered management, truly very human #The people at the top do whatever they want (subordinates) do not overstep their bounds

4. So responsible that you work yourself to death (the overtime pay used to be high enough to earn double pay, but the Labor Standards Act has changed now)

5. Deadline-Driven Development

6. Feeling-Driven Development

Pros

If you’re prepared to be driven to death by upper management and take the blame until you die, then come on over....

Engineers can learn things (because you have to handle everything yourself)... PMs don’t need to; they’re merely someone’s scapegoat.

The company is pretty short-staffed, and I’ve heard many people will be fleeing soon.

Cons

Apart from spouting bullshit, a certain manager has absolutely no ability whatsoever. Before each project comes in, they interfere by making random demands and wildly inaccurate estimates. Once the project is secured, they dump the mess on their subordinates and disappear without a trace....

When the project blows up because it can’t be completed, they come running out again, acting as if they’re very responsible and will “take responsibility.” If it gets finished, it’s their achievement; if it doesn’t, it’s everyone else’s fault....

And no one else is allowed to question them! They’ll immediately raise their voice at you. If other managers are present, they get amnesia. Their ability to deflect and dodge responsibility is truly masterful—slipperier than a loach. Very impressive.

I don’t understand why upper management keeps a useless person as a manager and then turns the whole company into a complete mess. Or are they really so stupid that they haven’t noticed at all?

The interview process felt pretty good.

However, the company may require frequent overtime, although overtime pay complies with the Labor Standards Act.

It is project-based work, and there are no particular issues with the salary and benefits. It would just be better if year-end bonuses and other bonuses were contractually guaranteed.

1. Suitable for beginners to hone their skills; the company loves hiring fresh graduates with no experience.

2. Colleagues get along well.

3. The technical expertise is fairly good.

Cons

1. There are many high-level executives who are full of bullshit; take their verbal promises with a grain of salt.

2. They often hire strange people.

3. Newcomers have it easy, while veterans work themselves to death.

4. They do not know how to value talent; to upper management, everyone is just a consumable.
