Pros

(Senior Customer Service)

The interview process was quite pleasant. The boss spoke freely and gave a brief introduction to the company and the job responsibilities. None of the questions were particularly difficult.

The direct supervisor was very personable. The interview was conducted in a non-standardized format, and the follow-up notification of the hiring decision came very quickly, so there was no need to wait long.

Cons

The company is a short distance from the MRT station, but I later found out that buses go directly there, so it was still acceptable.

Pros

A company that places a very strong emphasis on numerical performance: it has extremely high expectations for quantifiable results before and after all advertising expenditures. In particular, the marketing manager, R, practically never lets go of his calculator. When presenting a proposal to him, it is best to include the expected results and how they were estimated. He really will check Google Analytics on the spot to verify the figures. Fortunately, he is fairly mild-mannered and will work with you to make revisions and complete the proposal. He also handles many things personally and will not simply leave subordinates to fend for themselves, so he is considered someone you can work with.

Cons

One thing that requires extra attention is the social media manager, S, who often uses work requirements as a pretext to bully new employees. This includes various sarcastic or mocking messages and remarks, especially an extremely rude manner of speaking; the cutting comments are completely devoid of courtesy. S puts on one face in front of the marketing manager and behaves completely differently in private. Unless it is possible to remain completely separate from the social media manager in business matters, you should really think twice about working in this environment.

Pros

\b1. The customer service department, accounting, and IT department PM are easy to get along with

Cons

1. The boss is a typical exploitative Taiwanese employer. Anden Hud’s annual revenue is astonishing, and the boss drives a Porsche. The office and studio were all purchased outright rather than rented, yet he is unwilling to share the profits with employees who work with dedication. On average, each employee is made to do the work of three people, and overtime is the norm. The senior employees who have stayed there for a long time have either become accustomed to merely scraping by or are workaholics themselves, which is why they can accept being exploited in this way. There is no overtime pay for overtime work, and the boss considers this completely normal. Some people regularly work overtime until 9 p.m. to midnight.

2. The entire interview process consists of listening to the boss brag about himself, boasting about how capable he is and how inadequate other brands are. In short, you will not escape listening to him lecture for at least an hour.

3. The design supervisor (the one with the very high forehead) seems to treat his own team members fairly well, but that may not be the case with other departments. If you politely ask him to revise something—even if it may have been requested by the boss or the boss’s wife—his attitude can change 180 degrees. He may directly send you an unrestrained private message scolding you. Perhaps he thinks that, as a senior employee who also serves as a supervisor, he has two advantages because the boss trusts him, which is why his attitude is so bad. Personally, I think this reflects a problem with his character, so units that need to work with him should be careful.

4. If you are joining the marketing department, make sure to curry favor with the tall, heavyset, greasy-haired woman. She is not a supervisor (she is a PM); she is simply highly trusted by the boss. If you are very attractive or if she perceives you as competition, she will definitely team up with the brainless girls in the rest of the marketing department to ostracize you (silent treatment), and may even badmouth you to the boss. On the surface, however, she is very polite, humorous, and entertaining with other departments, while in reality she is extremely conceited and arrogant. Perhaps insecurity about her own appearance is driving her behavior; she once attacked attractive women she did not even know in the marketing group chat, directly calling them “green tea bitches.” Another thin, black-haired female PM is close to her and is also extremely rude. Anyway! It is a department where bad money drives out good—those considering joining should decide for themselves, or find a way to get along very well with them.

5. The boss appears to have a good temper, but he is extremely disrespectful of professional expertise. He thinks that having an engineering background means he should know both hardware and software engineering, and that having a marketing background means he should know every type of marketing. During interviews, he pontificates without carefully reviewing the candidate’s qualifications, then blames you after you join for not immediately meeting his expectations. That is what an exploitative boss does. Otherwise, boss, you should do everything yourself and see whether you really know how to do it all—and whether you can do everything to a perfect score.

This company is Anden Hud (online retailer).

I arrived on time for the interview, but the boss did not come into the meeting room for the interview until about 10–20 minutes later. Are interview times just for reference? Does other people’s time not count?

I applied for a position related to digital marketing, but as soon as I arrived, they demanded to see my face (I wore a mask throughout due to the pandemic). It felt extremely uncomfortable, as if I were applying for a position selling my looks.

Throughout the entire interview, all I did was listen to the boss brag and boast about how capable he was, how many designs they had during a campaign, and how low their return rate was across Taiwan (isn’t that also because intimate apparel cannot be returned?). In short, I had to listen to him talk nonsense for at least an hour.

They barely asked about the quality of my work or my personal experience. They only said they were looking for “partners,” not colleagues. A partner is someone who devotes themselves wholeheartedly to the company without caring about compensation!

??? Boss, do you think people look for jobs to do charity???

In short, this was the typical statement of an exploitative boss. Fortunately, it was obvious during the interview, so I only wasted time interviewing rather than working there!

Pros

The compensation seems fairly decent, but I don't know whether they're padding it with bonuses.

Cons

My résumé clearly says: Please contact me by email or 104.com.tw first.

Yet after the company sent me a message and left the company's phone number, I called back but couldn't reach anyone. Then they directly called me two or three times that day—what was that about...?

(Well, thankfully I had my phone on silent.)

So after I called back twice, the HR department still called me by phone. I answered, and they even complained that the signal was bad and asked whether I could leave another phone number... Do you not look at résumés when recruiting?

It's really ridiculous, okay?

Pros

I interviewed for a photographer position, and the design supervisor seemed quite experienced and had a good eye.

Cons

The boss conducted the initial interview. Not only was he half an hour late, but he immediately began complaining to the interviewee that the people applying for jobs these days were all young men and women who assumed they could become professionals simply because of their interest. The boss also asked, “How much overtime do you work at your current company on average? An hour and a half? I’ll be honest with you—that means you’ve had it too easy and haven’t been worked hard enough.” After that, the design supervisor took over the interview. To be honest, by then I no longer wanted to continue with the interview.

Pros

1. Very willing to offer a competitive salary

2. It is a relatively well-known brand (in my personal opinion)

3. The boss is very willing to have in-depth conversations with employees and understand their backgrounds (I guess... it varies from person to person)

4. The boss is very confident in—or perhaps boastful about—the company’s own products

Cons

After an interview lasting more than two hours, my impression was: “The boss loves pontificating too much.”

Half of the time was spent talking about the process of starting the business, life experiences, and so on.

Whenever certain topics came up during the conversation, it would inevitably go off on a tangent, for at least five minutes at a time.

I can understand wanting to offer young people some advice based on personal experience.

Without even discussing whether the opinions expressed in those casual conversations were politically correct,

those conversations were really unnecessary for the interviewee and also a huge waste of time!

“It made it difficult to tell whether I had come for an interview or to be lectured.”

(Anyone interested is welcome to come challenge their temper and patience.)

I am also worried about my future “work-related emotions.”

I suspect that the frequent overtime may actually be spent listening to the boss lecture (P.S. There is no overtime pay).

Suggestion: If you hope that job applicants can learn more about your company through conversation,

why not spend some time arranging a second interview for an in-depth discussion with candidates?

That would make it possible to find suitable employees and would also be less likely to scare people away.

Also, as a fairly well-known brand,

please improve the appearance of the company’s storefront and office.

The office, which looked like a makeshift rooftop addition, genuinely startled me—I thought I had gone to the wrong place.

Also, please seriously hire an EC manager instead of having the boss try to do everything.

The boss has the boss’s own work to do; matters such as the company’s image are better left to professionals, aren’t they?

A straight man awkwardly pretending to have a girlish sensibility is truly embarrassing.

The above is my humble personal impression for job seekers considering this company, provided for reference.

Pros

1. Colleagues at the same level are easy to get along with.

2. Work starts at 9:30 a.m., but there is a grace period until 10:00.

Cons

1. The company is in a very remote location. Even during the one-hour lunch break, you need to take a bus or walk for 10–15 minutes to get food, which is very inconvenient.

2. The year-end bonus is astonishing, but whether you can actually receive it is another matter. In addition, there is frequent overtime without overtime pay, so in reality, the year-end bonus is essentially used to subsidize unpaid overtime.

3. There is not much opportunity for the job responsibilities or salary to change or increase, so please think carefully before joining.

4. You cannot learn new things in the Marketing Department. Management says you can try more things, but there is a huge volume of copywriting, creative materials, and advertising, so there is simply no time to experiment.

5. In fact, all of the above shortcomings are tolerable—except for the Marketing Manager. The manager gives people the impression of being very two-faced and often sows discord among colleagues. Lacking sufficient ability, the manager needs subordinates to complete all of their work, then turns proposals and reports completed by subordinates into their own work and presents them to the boss to take credit. Countless department meetings are held every week to discuss the same issues, wasting time while requiring those below to solve them. You need to keep a clear head and have strong logical thinking when listening to the manager speak; otherwise, you may easily pick up incorrect marketing concepts.

P.S. The turnover rate in the Marketing Department was already high, but after the manager changed, it reached a new high!

Pros

(Interview for Senior Digital Marketing Planner)

1) The salary is relatively good compared with many fashion e-commerce companies. If you have experience and confidence in taking on the position, the digital marketing department offers a year-end bonus equivalent to six months’ salary.

2) The boss’s requirements are generally clear: experience using GA and advertising platforms, experience as a social media editor, and being young (under 28 preferred). As a marketer, spending a little time on weekends monitoring ad performance and adjusting the copy or images when results are unsatisfactory is necessary (but I didn’t ask how much time it might take).

Cons

1) My résumé, experience, and portfolio had clearly not been reviewed before the interview. In fact, many companies have this problem; reviewing the résumé beforehand would save both the company manager and the interviewee a great deal of time.

2) As others have commented, they were quite dismissive of other brands or industries they were unfamiliar with. But it’s fine—comparing themselves with others and being confident and proud of their own brand can also be considered a good thing. (??

3) There may be age and marital-status discrimination (that is, they read through my résumé aloud as they looked at it instead of reviewing it beforehand; if they had concerns, they could simply have ruled me out from the start @@. Anyway, it also gave me an opportunity). In fact, I can understand the employer’s concern that a married woman might become distracted by giving birth or caring for children. However, as an employee, I am also quite concerned that taking time off for childbirth could make it difficult to continue in this job.

Pros

The boss's educational and professional background can all be found online, the questions were very simple, and the interview wasn't stressful.

Cons

1. The annual salary of NT$600,000–1,000,000 publicly listed online is actually just the regular salary plus a ten-month year-end bonus. They have also fired people within a week; there really isn't much to brag about.

2. About 80% of the entire interview was spent listening to the boss boast about how good their performance was and how impressive their brand was, which was quite a waste of the applicant's time.

3. The interview location is in a very unusual place. It is recommended that you arrive at least ten minutes early. (I walked up and went around in circles so many times that I thought the company had gone out of business.)

Cons

The marketing manager at this company is a woman who only talks without having any marketing sense, is completely unable to keep up with the times, and thinks that because the boss finds her useful, she can simply order junior employees around. The boss is always completely fooled by her (because she has no sense and only knows how to shift blame instead of taking responsibility), and always listens to this manager B, who cannot keep up with other e-commerce trends, has no creativity, and can only copy other brands!

Since the brand sells underwear (claiming to be Taiwan’s Victoria’s Secret), when the e-commerce data shows declining or poor daily sales, woman B always blames the junior marketing staff. She also gives examples of unrealistic ideas without ever doing them herself, and never reflects on her own performance, always thinking she is the best!

After all, the manager is someone with absolutely no sense who thinks she is a marketing expert despite having little exposure to the world—it is ridiculous. She only knows how to talk; get it? In addition, she really likes using marketing staff to take videos or photos (showing skin and their faces), etc., directly treating them as free models!! This was not mentioned at all during the interview^^

Basically, at this Company A, you are worked to the point that one person is used as three people (handling marketing, e-commerce analysis, photography, design, modeling, etc.). As for the salary ^^ it is essentially the concept of cheap labor. Yet you always have to be criticized or interrogated by woman B. She is so annoying that you are driven crazy—do you still need to come to work?

This company is basically a place where you become the scapegoat for declining sales, while one person is made to do the work of three and still cannot learn anything—anything at all—from the manager! The turnover is also very high, girls, so don’t be fooled!
