Pros

The colleagues in the department are very nice; they are all great people.

Cons

1. The interview attitude was very casual, and everything they said was vague and full of empty promises. They said they would let employees travel abroad for study tours, but in reality there was nothing of the sort. Their attitude when confirming that I had been hired was also very strange—their emails were answered sporadically, which was the first sign of trouble.

2. The turnover rate is unbelievably high. More than six people resigned within three months of my joining.

3. The company’s financial situation feels concerning, and strange people often come in and make a scene.

4. The bonus system mentioned in the job description was apparently just something senior management claimed existed. In reality, I never saw any bonus policy or received any bonus.

5. The actual work content differed from what had been agreed upon. After using someone to complete a project, they simply get rid of them. Senior management always makes everything sound simple, but employees are the ones who do the hard work. During the project, they are very pleasant, but as soon as it is completed, they immediately turn cold and freeze you out.

6. They often ask employees to take on two cross-departmental jobs at once, without mentioning any pay increase. If you are unwilling, they will half-threaten to fire you and use underhanded tactics to force employees out in order to avoid legal liability.

7. Senior management always thinks they provide abundant resources, but they are all copied from other companies. They do not genuinely care about customers’ travel experiences, yet they constantly boast about how high-end and special their products are. In reality, they often open other companies’ websites to “refer to” and copy their content. Employees close to senior management often use strange reasons to refuse to cooperate with work processes, while senior management instead assumes that those who try to communicate and resolve issues are the problem.

8. Senior management loves using tactics that divide employees, then blames departments for operational problems, without realizing that they themselves are actually the root of the problem.

9. Senior management has no system for doing things and changes direction constantly. Everything is important and urgent, which causes the projects themselves to be delayed, and then people get berated for it. There is absolutely no logic to it. They are also extremely inconsistent in what they say. Their management ability really needs improvement. Few people can understand the messages they send, and their written communication skills are very poor. They graduated from NTU with a degree in marketing, but lack many basic common-sense skills.

I have also worked in quite a few travel-industry companies, and this place is absolutely the strangest of the strange. Friends who do not want to waste their lives or time should really think twice before joining.

Pros

The new office is very large and beautiful. There is coffee to drink at work, and pizza is often available.

Cons

Cons

We have to take turns doing chores. If you don't answer the phone within three rings, you'll get lectured. If you don't respond to a customer's question right away, you'll also get lectured. It's very different from the service industry job I had before.

Cons

There is absolutely no system or management.

Marketing and design professionals, definitely don’t waste your time here.

You’re expected to do everything for very little pay.

They make false promises about letting you manage the company in the future to trick you into joining.

Moreover, the boss always says he studied marketing at National Taiwan University.

In reality, he can only fool outsiders who don’t understand strategy.

Pros

In every workplace, there will always be gossip and people with sharp tongues.

I am still currently employed here. You may criticize the company’s strengths and weaknesses, but I really cannot stand people giving others random nicknames behind their backs. For example, “Old Princess” has worked here for nearly 25 years and is a senior colleague who deserves respect and whose experience we should learn from. This is simply basic courtesy between people.

That is what work is like: once you receive a salary, you do your job and accomplish the company’s goals. Looking at the new hires and employees who have left, they are indeed different from employees from several years ago. Even serving customers requires more patience and professionalism. As the boss said, the quality of personnel over the past two years has not been high, and their ability to learn has been poor. They watch dramas during work hours, and fall apart as soon as they are reprimanded.

If you frequently change jobs and your boss does not try to retain you when you resign, from the company’s perspective, perhaps your value to the organization is not very high.

I truly hope this company can continue to grow steadily. As a former employee once said, this is a company led by a very capable boss. The boss comes from the electronics industry and has the meticulous personality commonly associated with Virgo. His way of thinking about work differs from that of my previous boss. One person—the boss—can almost single-handedly achieve the company’s performance targets. When employees make mistakes, he also steps in to help handle them rather than leaving us to fight alone. The boss thinks clearly, and I have genuinely learned a lot since coming here.

Cons

To provide a balanced view of this company’s strengths and weaknesses for new employees’ reference:

Disadvantages:

1. The turnover among sales staff is indeed very high:

This seems to be the same situation at several travel agencies I worked for previously. I think this reflects the current reality of the service industry. The current boss has recruited employees from other industries, such as the airline and hotel industries. Their educational backgrounds are also quite good, and the company’s overall quality is higher than before. I hope these people can stay stable and lead the company’s growth.

2. The gossip never stops:

Ever since I joined the company, people have been saying that the company cannot pay its employees. In reality, the company has never been late paying me or any other colleague, not even by one day. In fact, when payday falls on a holiday, the company pays us early on Friday.

After so much gossip, the company merged with a travel agency that was established 30 years ago this year and opened a branch in Taichung. It is currently preparing to open another branch in Hsinchu, so I think many of the rumors will eventually stop.

Advantages:

1. Environment:

The Taipei headquarters was formerly a design company and has an industrial-style interior. The overall environment is quite good.

The Taichung office is a storefront. Although it is a small shop, nearly one million dollars was spent on its renovation. The boss said it would have a Nordic style, and it really does not look like an ordinary travel agency.

2. Benefits:

1. Free coffee is provided. I personally have a habit of drinking coffee at work, and this company provides a fully automatic coffee machine using Starbucks coffee beans. There are nearly 20 employees, so a lot of coffee is consumed. At least the boss is not stingy about replacing them with cheaper beans.

2. Sales staff who complete one full month of work get to travel abroad for an inspection trip. Meetings are held once a week, and one hour is spent reviewing performance.

3. The boss has never asked us to work overtime. However, travel agencies really do have a lot of miscellaneous tasks, and because of customer requests, we generally leave work half an hour to an hour late. If you come to this company, be prepared to leave work late.

4. Free accommodation is provided.

In June and July this year, two newly hired female sales employees from central Taiwan were living away from home. The boss thought that coming to Taipei alone would be difficult, so he kindly provided a three-bedroom house for them to share. It was also very close to the company, and water, electricity, and air conditioning were provided free of charge.

Unfortunately, one of the women suddenly stopped coming to work in August. She did not submit a resignation letter or hand over her work, and even asked other colleagues to help collect her belongings. Afterwards, she complained extensively. This made the boss very angry, but he did not withhold her salary. However, future employees probably will not receive this benefit.

Employees in Taichung currently receive this benefit. The boss provides accommodation, as well as a free garage, and all water and electricity costs are covered.

5. Last month, during a typhoon, the company suddenly announced in the afternoon that work would be suspended. The boss was considerate and allowed employees to leave an hour early. Later, the news reported that the MRT was extremely overcrowded. Even in small matters like this, you can feel that the boss is a good person.

The above is provided for people who are considering entering the travel service industry. This company has received top-level W Hotels and Banyan Tree certifications and agency rights for many years, so it still has ability and competitiveness. I think many colleagues will continue to stay with the company steadily.

I do not want to get involved in gossip. I hope the company does well, and capable people are welcome to join.

Today I received last month’s salary, and after calculating it carefully, I was really speechless.

Working hours are 9:00–18:30, with a 1.5-hour lunch break. However, they calculate all personal and sick leave using 9.5 hours. If you take a half-day of personal leave in the afternoon, they deduct 6.5 hours, which includes the 1.5-hour break.

Isn’t regular leave supposed to be calculated as 8 hours?!

If they calculated it as 4 hours for a half-day of personal leave and 8 hours for a full day of sick leave, my salary last month would have been NT$400 more than what they paid.

(Although it isn’t a huge difference, it feels terrible when they underpay you.)

However, when I calculate it using 6.5 hours of personal leave plus 9.5 hours of sick leave, it comes out almost the same as what they paid.

They must be manipulating the salary structure and the number of hours counted for leave! I asked other people, and they experienced the same thing. I’ve worked for a long time and have never encountered anything like this!

Anyone considering working for this company should think twice! Don’t be easily deceived by the boss’s grand promises and talk yourself into joining!

The employee turnover there is extremely high! Before I left, I watched three colleagues resign one after another. Someone who has stayed for three months is considered a veteran.

Pros

If you're just looking to get by and don't have much of a problem with constant changes of direction, you can stay. Taking leave is very easy—just ask for it and it gets approved.

Cons

1. The boss frequently changes direction. Today they say to do one thing, and tomorrow they change it to something else. When asked which one is more important, they say they're all important.

2. The boss will ask whether something assigned today is finished just two days later. If you say it isn't finished because you have other tasks at hand, they will say to schedule it in, then assign something new and say it's urgent.

3. The turnover rate is extremely high. Almost all of the sales staff left within one week, and another batch was brought in. None of them had experience related to travel.

4. The accountant often stares at other people with an inexplicable look, wanting to know what the other employees are doing or saying.

5. There is no predecessor available for a smooth handover. If you ask the boss or HR, they also know nothing about it.

6. Resources are insufficient. The boss keeps thinking they are providing plenty of resources, but when asked, either nothing comes of it, or they tell the sales or marketing staff that they need to develop new customer sources themselves.

7. The same products are sold at higher prices than by other companies. When the boss is informed, they say we can't compare ourselves with large travel agencies because our brand positioning is premium.

8. They say not to compare ourselves with other travel agencies, yet they often hold meetings where they make us look at comparable products from other companies. This is very confusing.

Pros

1. The line manager is a supervisor who thinks about the team.

2. The boss is very good at sales talk.

3. Operations, reservations, and ticketing are very stable.

Cons

1. Sales commissions are often delayed and left unpaid. The promised start-of-work red envelopes, Labor Day bonuses, and bonuses for the three major festivals were all gone this year, making people feel that the company really cannot afford to pay.

2. A woman who had not been with the company long kept acting as though she had known the boss for a long time. The boss said she was in sales, but she had no performance at all and could not take orders. Later, she was put in charge of personnel matters, despite not understanding the Labor Standards Act. She once invited someone to an interview and kept them waiting for half an hour until they angrily left. She told everyone to ask her about any business-related problems, but she did not know the answer to anything and could not help resolve any issues. Later, she would walk around the office whether there was anything to do or not, saying that she was very busy, but no one had any idea what she actually did. Tasks within her area of responsibility were also given to sales assistants. She simply acted like the boss's wife.

3. The boss thinks he knows Koh Samui very well, but has not kept up with the times. He did not even know when restaurants had closed. The itinerary arrangements were so difficult to operate that tour leaders and guides all complained. Taking people to Fisherman's Village at 11 o'clock meant that hardly any restaurants were open, and when asked whether he could recommend somewhere more upscale, he could not say anything.

4. The company has always liked to say that someone is gossiping, spreading rumors, or inciting people to resign. Whenever an employee leaves, the company blames them for believing rumors or being incited by former employees. Whenever there is a negative review, it says that a former employee is holding a grudge and taking revenge, rather than reflecting on itself. In fact, the source of all the rumors is that the boss often privately complains to people that “so-and-so is not doing well and should be let go,” which is how these stories spread; they are not made up out of nowhere. Then, after starting the fire, the person who spread it starts putting it out by saying in front of everyone, “Why believe this kind of rumor?” and “The boss is the one who makes the decisions.”

5. The person who looks very much like the boss's wife but no one knows what she actually does loves asking employees all sorts of questions and throwing her weight around, then telling them to just do their own jobs. Together with the gossip trio in accounting (now down to two people), they are all “two-faced.” By comparison, the sales staff at this company are surprisingly straightforward.

6. It is a small company, yet the accounting staff make up one-fifth of all employees. When the boss is away, they constantly gossip loudly; when the boss is present, they are very good at putting on an act.

7. The office is somewhat old, with a relatively low ceiling, and feels dim. There are also some feng shui items; I even heard that there used to be talismans, which makes the place feel strange.

8. The office is roughly divided into three areas: one for sales staff, one for back-office staff and accounting, and another that is very unclear—perhaps graphic design or marketing. People come and go, and it is not even clear whether they are company employees.

9. The agreed-upon salary is manipulated in the salary structure, and the reported amounts for labor and health insurance are understated, violating the Labor Standards Act.

Pros

The boss is very good at talking.

He said that the sales staff at their company get bonuses of over

90,000 every month.

I really don’t know which travel agency pays its sales staff that much.

Cons

The company is old and dirty,

and they’re also very disrespectful toward interviewees.

You have to wait 30 minutes for the interview.

Those 30 minutes are incredibly quiet—not a single phone call.

The only sound is the fish tank constantly bubbling with air.

It’s a little scary.

I can only say that anyone who really wants to join should think twice. Of all the travel agencies I have worked for, this is by far the worst.

After the contract was signed, the company changed the contents without the business staff's consent, and never informed them. You have to check every detail extremely carefully to notice it.

There is no well-established supervisor or internal communication system. When you encounter a product that is not part of the company's mainstream offerings, you cannot find anyone to ask for a quotation.

There is no training system, and make sure to ask clearly about the bonus system during the interview as well. The monthly bonuses you receive will inexplicably be far lower than you imagined, and the company will only say that it is because the economy is currently poor.

The turnover rate is extremely high.

There are honestly too many downsides to mention, and I cannot think of anything good at all...

I sincerely suggest that people who want to join a travel agency look elsewhere; other companies would be better.

The manager treats employees as disposable chopsticks.

They tell you there will be a year-end bonus and an employee trip,

then fire you a few months later.

It’s not just me;

many other people have encountered this situation too.

It can happen in any position.
