2. On the day of the interview, the more junior HR representative was also very patient.

Cons

During the interview, the HR representative said they would respond by Friday, but then there was no news at all~ Even after I sent another email to ask, there was still no response~

Pros

The HR person on the pre-interview call was fine.

Cons

They called my current employer for a reference check without even arranging an interview. Be careful when applying in the future; I recommend applying as a job seeker.

In 2011, the Volkswagen Group conducted an experiment in Stockholm, Sweden, installing a speed-camera lottery machine with a toothpick dispenser, powered by carbon dioxide + yogurt.

Regardless of whether or how long someone sped, it sent bad reaction images, making things complicated. The photos paid for by speeding drivers were used for the prize, and the winner received 20,000 without having to go on strike.

Before the experiment, the average speed was 32 miles per hour. The variable-frequency air conditioners were made in Vietnam. Since it was a public-relations promotional event, it ended quickly, and ultimately was never truly implemented as a circus-game bill. Would you like to try it?

Pros

The senior colleagues who trained me and the coworkers who joined at the same time were nice people.

After working there, I never ate KFC again ^^ The only advantage of working at KFC is probably this: saving money.

Cons

The managers and store manager were all terrible, and unbelievably rude.

The schedule was often only posted the day before. Each station would only schedule 2–3 half-day training shifts, and then expect you to work independently. You had to somehow figure out where everything was kept and the workflow SOPs yourself; if you asked, you would just get harshly scolded for not knowing anything...

The staffing was seriously inadequate.

Once, I saw that I had been scheduled for a station I had never learned. I immediately told the scheduling manager that I had no idea how to do it, but the scheduler just laughed it off and said someone would help me, then still assigned me there. The person helping was the manager on duty, who did not teach me anything and only kept harshly scolding me. And the most outrageous part was that the next day, they scheduled me to work independently at that station......

The training was completely fake. I have never seen a large company mess around like this. I genuinely wanted to do a good job, but there were no SOPs or work manuals; everything depended on somehow figuring it out yourself. If it had not been for the senior colleagues and coworkers who joined at the same time helping one another during the early days, I would have wanted to quit by the fifth day. Eventually, I really could not take being constantly thrown into these awful situations anymore and simply quit.

They were extremely strict about clocking in and out on time, but because they were understaffed, they would also use emotional pressure to demand that we help out by working unpaid overtime without clocking in or out. (I heard this was because upper management required each store to keep its overtime hours below a certain amount or something like that.)

They pursued fast service times, but the counter staff had to take orders while shouting into the kitchen about what the orders might include, settle customers’ bills, and prepare their orders at the same time. Unless the kitchen had superhuman hearing or some kind of telepathic connection with the counter, they could only wait for the order to be completed and appear on the screen before making it. I really cannot understand how difficult it is to buy a microphone. Learn from MOS Burger, please. Otherwise, hire more people and update the ordering machines. There is a reason McDonald’s can be the fast-food leader.

I applied for a position at the head office, and HR contacted me by phone very quickly and was very polite.

Cons

After asking about my expected salary during the call, I never heard back.

For a similar position, I stated my current monthly salary as my asking salary and received no response. Later, I noticed that the position remained posted on 104 for about four months. Presumably, this company does not offer very good salaries, so applicants should think twice.

Pros

1. There are often discarded products available to eat, saving quite a bit on food expenses.

2. The company doesn't dare fire people, so having a thick skin is your greatest asset.

Cons

1. You often have to play along with many idiotic policies, which feels very powerless.

2. You often have to work overtime, but there is no overtime pay.

3. There is no such thing as sick leave. You can check how many frontline supervisors have literally died of illness while on the job.

Pros

None at all

Cons

A god-awful company environment that treats frontline operations employees extremely harshly. The kind of company this is can be seen from how, in the very year Jollibee took over YUM!, it managed to drive away a large number of veteran employees. Now, the company’s senior management apparently feels it is not making enough money and continues to target employees, making benefits increasingly worse (year-end and birthday gifts have gone from gift certificates that could be exchanged for cash, to non-cashable privilege vouchers, and now to shopping bags, reusable tableware, straws, and other junk dumped in bags on the manager’s office floor that no one wants to pick up). They are slashing hours and reducing staffing like crazy. Their brain-dead excuse is that the operating hours previously considered excessive will be cut from future schedules to make up for them. Does a food-service company not realize that frontline restaurant workers encounter a huge number of unexpected situations?

Delivery drivers do not show up until after noon (if there are orders before noon, the store has to reassign its already-scarce staff to handle them). One person has to take orders at the counter, assemble orders, prepare fries, pour drinks, and so on; another has to wrap burgers, prepare drinks, and so on, while also being chased into the grill area to work and hurry to bread and fry the chicken.

With so little staff, if the shift happens to receive a large order and a crowd of customers lines up out the door, the manager and employees on duty can only fend for themselves, haha.

The lousy work environment already causes extremely high employee turnover. Then customers complain about the slow service and stop coming, reducing sales. Yet senior management continues to outdo itself with these strategies, and this is the current situation: an ongoing vicious cycle.

Veteran employees are driven away, new hires do not stay long, and no server wants to move up into management (for only an extra NT$5 on the basic hourly wage, they work themselves to death). As for hours, they are controlled extremely strictly. Some stores keep part-time employees working for more than eight hours, then refuse to record it, so they cannot receive overtime pay.

On the surface, it looks as though there is clock-in software; in reality, all hours after closing are manually entered by the management team, so apparently nobody ever works overtime. As for full-time employees, forget it—of course they are on call 24/7 under a responsibility-based system, supposedly doing charity work. Just look at how the managers of a certain KFC branch and the Pizza Hut Daan branch previously worked themselves to death.

If you are still looking for a job at this company on this page, you might as well check out “FB 靠北肯德基” and “靠北必勝客.” You will learn that the biggest headache in the service industry is not dealing with unreasonable customers, but witnessing the bizarre behavior of your own company’s senior management. Think carefully about whether this is the work environment you want before applying, and you can avoid wasting your valuable time.

Pros

The schedule assignments are reasonable (if the schedule is actually followed), and salaries are paid on time.

Cons

Closing shifts always end more than 30 minutes late (sometimes they can drag on for up to 2 hours). Whether you get overtime pay depends on the mood of upper management (usually, you don't). The company's senior management is "extremely" corrupt and bureaucratic, spending a lot of resources on flattering superiors, dealing with evaluations, and fabricating data.

1. Salary follows the Labor Standards Act.

2. You can eat free pizza and other products.

Cons

1. All of the above benefits depend on whether your store manager is a good person.

2. In the service industry, it is inevitable that you will encounter difficult customers.

3. You still have to work during typhoons and on major holidays.

Pros

Clean and hygienic. If you work the morning shift, there are generally no major problems, and it’s quite easy.

Cons

1. If you work the evening shift, it is mostly a closing shift. There is a lot of cleaning to do <= the price of being clean and hygienic.

2. Every day, there will definitely be 15–30 minutes of unpaid time because the company manages labor very strictly, so there is no way to report those hours.

3. The company strictly manages both staffing and standards.

4. The company has its own evaluators and also hires outside companies to help with evaluations. They are constantly conducting evaluations (of product standards and cleanliness).

Pros

After learning about the inner workings of KFC, you’ll avoid buying from KFC.

If the closing shift finishes quickly, you can probably spend about an hour getting paid for doing nothing.

When a small store is quiet, you can also get paid for doing nothing.

Double pay on national holidays.

Closing-shift employees can eat unsold food (at the manager’s discretion).

Cons

Management varies from store to store. Some stores are very strict, while others are very lax, so food quality also varies (this store belongs to the latter group).

The rules for taking leave are unclear. Most employees don’t know that they are entitled to paid leave. If you only tell the manager that you want to take sick leave, bereavement leave, or other types of paid leave, the manager will simply remove you from the schedule, and you won’t receive the wages you are entitled to. This is because the manager often doesn’t know how to process paid leave either. When I called HR myself to ask, HR told me that the store manager had to email headquarters before it could be processed.

Employee training is inadequate at some stores, resulting in different procedures at each location and frequent customer complaints.

The POS system is terrible and very complicated to use. The system does not calculate add-on prices automatically, so employees have to go to the add-on section and enter them manually. Many promotions are unknown even to the staff, often causing customers to spend more money.

Because the company is perpetually short-staffed, it hires indiscriminately. Some unethical shift leaders even put food that has fallen on the floor back into the warmer and continue selling it.

Products are also sometimes sold after their expiration time.

If an employee works seven consecutive days, they may be asked to clock in using someone else’s time card to evade labor laws.

A breeding ground for extremely unreasonable customers. Basically, employees have to satisfy whatever customers demand. For example, although the rules state that coupons cannot be used to request specific chicken parts, employees still have to agree if the customer keeps pressuring them. Example 2: On typhoon days, only the typhoon meal is supposed to be sold, but online ordering is not disabled. If a customer orders other items online, employees still have to prepare them, and so on.

Employee benefits are getting worse. Employee meals used to be 50% off, but now they are only 15% off; buying a combo is basically the same as paying the “super savings” price, so there is no real discount at all.

The delivery allowance is NT$8 per delivery, or NT$12 on rainy days. However, the system defaults to sunny weather, so you won’t know whether the management team manually entered the rainy-day rate before closing. In addition to deliveries, employees may also be assigned to transfer stock between stores; even though they have to go out, they receive no allowance.

The delivery scooters are terrible and very difficult to ride. Even when they break down, they are not repaired until they become impossible to ride. Riding in the rain still leaves you soaked, even while wearing rain gear.

Sometimes shifts are added or cut after the schedule has been posted, without notifying you.

Shift leaders have a huge number of responsibilities, but their hourly wage is only NT$9 more than that of service staff.

The pay is the same for every station, even though the duties and physical demands differ greatly.

In short, it may be a decent choice for people who do not have high expectations of their work environment and are content to muddle through. But if you have the opportunity to move somewhere better, you might as well leave.

Working part-time at Pizza Hut is pretty good. In accordance with the Labor Standards Act, everything that should be provided is provided. After working for more than a year, you may even receive a year-end bonus on a prorated basis. National holidays are paid at double the regular rate, meals are provided, and company vehicles are available for deliveries. You also get an extra NT$8 per delivery under normal conditions and NT$12 per delivery on rainy days. Overall, there are good basic protections. Other businesses or small companies may not necessarily provide everything they should, so Pizza Hut is a good option for students working part-time or employed people looking for a side job. It is not exceptionally good, but it is not a complete dump either. For everyone’s reference.

A collection of fundamentally shitty companies.

The company’s stores were short on full-time employees, so they shut down the PTL position and forced people to become full-time employees.

Why did they shut it down? Because PTL pay was higher than full-time pay, LOL.

Now, after having it closed for over half a year—almost a year—they realized that no one still wanted to become a full-time employee, so they brought the PTL position back out again, haha.

Also, the employee benefits are extremely poor. Even for the year-end banquet raffle, only full-time employees with at least two years of seniority are eligible to enter. WTF?

Damn, in our entire store, no one except the store manager was able to enter the year-end banquet raffle.
