Pros

It's sort of a big company… I guess…

Cons

General Manager Li X repeatedly swears “Mother Fxcker” and other profanities throughout meetings, and may fire employees for walking outside without wearing a mask (Taiwan had already lifted the mandate). Turnover is very high in important positions (manager level and above); capable employees have already quit because they could no longer tolerate the general manager. Team responsibilities are unclear. A proposal that your own team worked hard to present to a client can be copied and pasted by another team within the company, which then takes credit, while the vice president above them says nothing. This can damage the morale of employees who are genuinely doing the work.

I suppose it could be considered a large company.

Cons

1. The general manager often uses profanity to greet people during meetings.

2. It feels like the company cannot retain talent; the turnover rate is very high for some important positions.

Pros

The website looks good.

Before the interview invitation, they first provide a webpage link

where you can fill in your information in advance,

avoiding having to fill out paperwork with pen and paper on-site and saving time.

Cons

HR had no idea what they were doing.

When I arrived, I just had to wait for the line leader to come and interview me.

Then I asked the line leader about the benefits, but they couldn't explain them at all.

I was told to ask HR myself again.

The interview ended after only a few words.

An individual interview, in a small room

Process: Test -> HR -> Manager

I. Test (1.5 hours)

1. English test: 50 questions, 30 minutes

2. Aptitude test + logic test: 60 minutes

If you finish, you can call HR to come down earlier.

II. HR interview (0.5 hours)

1. Self-introduction

2. Asked about my previous work experience based on the company’s resume format

I had written about my industry-academia collaboration experience, but not the salary, so she asked why I had not filled it in.

I replied: Because the professor paid very little, so I left it blank.

3. Academic background

Q: Why did it take you relatively long to finish graduate school?

A: My professor thought I was useful and asked me to stay and work on an industry-academia collaboration project.

Q: Why did you enroll in a different graduate program instead of continuing directly into graduate school?

A: I wanted to try a different environment and learn new ways of thinking.

Q: When did you complete your military service?

Q: What were you doing during the period when you were not working?

Q: When did you start seriously looking for a job?

Q: How many companies have you interviewed with?

Q: Why did you not join those companies?

Q: Where do you live? How long is your commute?

4. Do you have any questions?

My question: This is not a newly opened position. Why did the previous employee leave?

HR’s answer: Life planning, changing jobs for a salary increase.

III. Manager interview (1 hour)

Manager F from the Communications Systems Business Group; short white hair; speaks at an unhurried pace.

(There was a camera recording on the screen behind him.)

1. Please introduce yourself.

2. Your work experience

Q: Can you write programs? What programming languages do you use? What have you written?

Q: Have you worked on any projects?

3. The manager introduced the job responsibilities:

ODM contract manufacturing, design outsourcing, and manufacturing outsourcing; no products of their own.

Contract-manufactured products: 3C-related and IoT-related products, such as smart speakers, Bluetooth earphones, styluses, electric bicycles, batteries, and 3D printers.

Verify software specifications and write firmware.

Product processes, yield, and reliability.

Production-process automation.

Instruments: power supplies, meters, TAQ data collectors, and wireless collectors.

If there is a new verification task, you need to conduct a survey.

Development environment: not LabVIEW, but the equipment’s control interfaces and libraries.

There will be more and more projects, so you need to be proactive and motivated, and not delay things.

There is expected to be a slow season.

Overtime may be required.

My question: What is your ideal employee like?

The manager’s answer: Someone with relevant experience who is familiar with project processes and does not find requests inexplicable when asked to do something.

Someone who can confirm requirements with clients, help clients find solutions, and communicate with the factory side.

//--------------------//

IV. Interview impressions

1. Test

The English test included listening comprehension, so I recommend bringing your own headphones.

You could hear the ambient recording through the computer.

2. HR interview (I gave it 85 points.)

The HR person who contacted me happened to be on leave today, so another HR representative conducted the interview as a substitute. They are also responsible for another department, so they were not very familiar with the department I applied to, but they were quite nice.

3. Manager interview (I gave it 70 points.)

The manager did not seem enthusiastic, and I felt that he spoke somewhat slowly.

The manager may have been looking for someone with experience. Since he saw that I did not have relevant experience, it felt like he had no intention of continuing the conversation. = =

Toward the end, I was the one asking all the questions. I originally thought that, since I regularly read technology-related articles, I could discuss a development process I had guessed for one of the company’s contract-manufactured products. However, the manager still seemed to think I lacked experience, so he did not share much about how things are actually done in the industry.

He thought I did too little programming practice in my daily life. (Inner thought: Then how do you practice normally?)

After talking, I realized the job did not match what I wanted, so I did not plan to accept it either.

I recommend that people with experience who regularly practice programming (C#) give it a try.

Pros

Claims to be a Foxconn-affiliated company, but actually has no connection whatsoever. The boss is incompetent, the pay is not very good, and it is difficult to find good employees. The only advantage is that it is close to an MRT station.

But this is simply the current situation in Taiwan: without a sufficiently large domestic market for support, and with incompetent bosses, everyone is living off past achievements.

Cons

There are no advantages whatsoever

Pros

Basically, this is a company that completely follows the Dilbert principle. Simply put, there are far too many middle- and senior-level managers who shirk responsibility, take credit, and shift blame. By contrast, employees at the levels of section chief, engineer, and specialist tend to have better judgment and a greater ability to handle matters. It is a very typical mediocre, middling company. Ultimately, the higher-ranking the manager, the more they like to listen to gossip, often leading them to make incorrect decisions.

Pros

1. There is little employee turnover in each department of the central unit, and every employee has at least five years of tenure (suitable for older employees to settle in, but for newcomers it feels lifeless, with no vitality at all).

2. Salary growth is limited (you could say it is frozen); the only way to get a modest increase of NT$1,000 to NT$1,500 is through a promotion in job grade. In more than three years since joining, my salary has been adjusted only once, and even after the adjustment, it is still much lower than that of other EMS manufacturers.

3. China Motion Picture Corporation movie tickets are distributed four times a year, with four tickets each time (they are not free—you purchase the movie tickets from China Motion Picture Corporation using the welfare fees you pay).
