Pros

1. The colleagues are nice.

2. You get to work with some of the settings for the company’s own games (only some).

3. Basically, unless something major comes up, you can leave and arrive on time.

4. High autonomy: as long as you meet your work targets, no one will micromanage you.

5. You can learn independently, and become very proficient with Excel.

6. You get to see how a large company operates (although it seems to be a negative example).

7. According to colleagues, the salary and benefits here are considered good for the game industry.

Cons

1. No one will teach you, so although everyone says this is a beginner’s village for the game industry... think carefully! If you’re good at self-directed learning, you’ll definitely learn things. (No one will teach you any of the things I mentioned above that you can learn either, unless you happen to meet me—but I’ve already left~)

2. Most of the time is spent packaging files for the in-game shop, because the company only wants to make quick money. But if you join the company now, things will be much easier~because I’ve already set up all kinds of formulas in the shop planning spreadsheet. Taking over my work now should reduce the time spent on the shop by at least 30–50%.

3. Because I was assigned to a relatively old project, I rarely had opportunities to work with people from other departments, especially the art department. At most, I would occasionally ask them to make some new UI icons.

4. It’s all old stuff, and the programming department is also very busy, so it’s difficult for them to find time to complete your requests. As a result, most of the time is spent fiddling with data.

5. Because the game has accumulated several generations of development and all the veterans at the company have left, it’s difficult to find out about the game’s underlying data and calculation rules. The programmers may not necessarily be willing to help you investigate either, so you can try fishing through the ocean of documents (more than 20 years’ worth of data) to find something that might be useful.

6. There is basically no overtime pay, but if you work excessively long hours, you can take compensatory leave the next morning.

7. The company floor is really awful.

8. Overall, the supervisor is reasonable and willing to communicate. However, one of his relatives is a manager in another department, so if you have interactions with that department... well... sigh... never mind... it’s nothing... I envy the programming department, whose supervisor can stand up for the people under them. Our planning department is the filling in the sandwich R... (Though you could also view this as a challenge—after all, game planners at most companies really do need to be able to withstand pressure.)

9. Because this is a company focused on money, upper management only cares about the metrics. So don’t expect to make a game that’s 100% fun; you need to make a game that’s 100% good at squeezing money out of players.

10. After doing this for a long time, you’ll forget what a fun game is. Your mind will be filled with ways to make more money.

Pros

1. A good place for beginners to gain experience

2. The colleagues all share similar interests, so it’s easy to get along and chat

Cons

1. Extremely excessive overtime (with no overtime pay)

2. After the three-month probationary period, your salary will not be adjusted directly the following month because the company needs to “run the process” for a month. You will only actually see the salary adjustment in the fifth month.

3. Poor internal management

A little advice for newcomers considering joining the company:

Understand your own limits of endurance. If you truly reach the limit of what you can tolerate, leave your position as soon as possible.

Pros

The beginner’s village of the gaming industry—level up to the beginner cap, then use it as a stepping stone to switch jobs.

Cons

You don’t need to be capable; you only need to be an obedient lackey.

Know how to flatter and suck up to lazy people, and you’re guaranteed to get promoted quickly!

Pros

1. You can forge revolutionary bonds with colleagues through extremely long working hours.

2. Cultivate a Buddha-like mindset.

3. Living at the company can save on water and electricity bills.

Cons

1. The supervisor has no backbone. When upper management says to produce a new server for a project in one day, they simply agree.

2. What are overtime pay and benefits? Can you eat them?

3. Leaving work at 6 p.m.? Fake! If public transportation didn’t stop running at midnight, we’d probably leave even later.

(Not necessarily the case for every project.)

4. Unable to let go of past glory, they think converting an old game into a mobile game will make it sell.

Unless you want to use the company’s lounge and washing machine as your dormitory, passionate young people with ideas and enthusiasm are advised not to join. There is no future here.

Pros

I think the work atmosphere depends on the project.

Personally, I thought my supervisor at the time was a great leader: they helped us communicate with upper management, took responsibility for us, organized group outings, and even served as our driver.

Also, having such a terrible producer helped us develop a sense of camaraderie, creating the feeling that everyone, from top to bottom, was united in giving them a hard time.

Cons

1. The testing department clearly had no professional training process, and the testing quality was terrible. It even sometimes hindered development efficiency.

2. The network is locked down, USB is locked down—anything you can think of that might soothe your soul is locked down.

3. For a large company, the environment is terrible; cockroaches often attacked us in the restroom.

4. There are many long-time employees who are set in their ways, as well as many people who lack ambition. If you join, be very careful not to simply go with the flow.

5. Zero recorded violations of the Labor Standards Act? You must be joking~

6. What happened to the promised salary increase after passing the probationary period?

Personally, I think that once you’ve learned the basics at Winking Entertainment, you can start considering jumping ship…

Pros

I can't think of any.

Cons

1. Deceiving fresh graduates-

When I had just graduated, they promised that my salary would be adjusted after completing the three-month probationary period. However, they extended it to six months for no reason.

2. Operating on the edge of labor laws-

As long as you are a new employee, there is an implicit rule during the first month that you "must" work overtime every day until 9 p.m. so that employees can adapt to the culture of overtime (if you leave early because you have something to do, you will even be scolded and told to make up the overtime on another day ^^). They say that following this rule is not mandatory, but supervisors will supposedly take it into consideration when deciding on salary increases. However, this is only stated verbally and is not documented in writing, so it cannot be reported and there is no way to hold them accountable.

3. It is almost impossible to claim overtime pay, and there is no compensatory leave.

4. The internet is restricted, activity is monitored, and USB ports are blocked.

5. No future prospects; once you join, you are just waiting to die. It will not add any value to your résumé.

Pros

1. After all, it’s the gaming industry, so the job is essentially playing games. Although most of the time is spent playing our own games, occasionally we can play other games under the pretext of “reference.”

2. Most of the games are developed in-house, so you can learn about the process of developing games internally.

3. Everyone enjoys playing games, so there is no shortage of gaming companions.

Cons

1. The bureaucratic atmosphere is very strong. Game design is sometimes abandoned in favor of other, better designs just to satisfy senior management.

2. The company cannot let go of the halo of past successes, so designs usually follow existing patterns with only minor modifications.

3. Most programmers (including management) are not particularly capable and are unwilling to try new technologies. Only a very small number of programmers continue learning new technologies. The flow of R&D knowledge and technology within the company is also poor; it often happens that a team is unwilling to let other teams know about or use the technology it has developed.

4. Working hours often exceed the limits stipulated by labor laws. The main reason is extremely poor development efficiency. Although the company often talks about innovation, its culture is accustomed to conservatism, so any attempt at improvement often encounters opposition and is abandoned.

5. Salaries for the same work are considerably lower than the normal market level. There have been senior employees who resigned and joined another company before returning in order to obtain a substantial raise; their rank and salary grew more than their professional abilities did.
