Pros

The pay isn’t high, but everyone is just coasting. Just go along with them and you’ll be fine. Don’t show any ability; whatever the supervisor says, whether it’s right or wrong, just agree. Be obedient and look busy, and you can comfortably earn a very ordinary salary here. If you want to get married and have children without financial worries, you can stay.

Cons

In recent years, the company has been recruiting outstanding employees from competitors, claiming that the brand needs to become younger and inject new blood. They say the salary is negotiable, then deny everything after luring people into the company.

They do not comply with the Labor Standards Act, which greatly affects employees. They will not explain things clearly during interviews; you have to ask about everything yourself, one point at a time.

The documents employees are asked to sign are falsified documents designed to evade labor inspections and audits. Many people sign them cluelessly and have no protection if something goes wrong.

The benefits agreed upon during the interview may suddenly change depending on the supervisor’s mood. The company has no consistent policies; your position may suddenly be changed, or your pay may be reduced through measures such as being given shopping vouchers instead. Those who refuse to comply are treated very harshly.

Many outstanding people have been forced to leave. Those who remain are either long-time employees or people just idling around.

The leadership style is self-righteous, and the company culture is very rigid and conventional. This wealthy family business exploits employees without hesitation. There is little opportunity for development here, so young people with ideals and ambitions should think twice.

Pros

During interviews, they recruit employees under the slogan of corporate transformation, but within less than two months of joining, you’ll see the reality is…

The senior executives only show their faces and smoke, and all they can talk about is their glorious achievements from more than a decade ago.

If you want to enjoy the air conditioning while taking it easy until retirement, this is the place for you 👍

Cons

A company that continues to operate using methods from more than a decade ago, led by upper management that is completely inactive and has no ideas, has no chance of growing.

Performance gets worse every year, yet they can still go around praising the company’s slight growth—this must be the only company capable of doing that 👍

I really don’t know how else to describe it 🙄

Pros

Recommended for people who want to retire early—you can chew through their nest egg.

The company is very wealthy.

It has never taken out a loan.

Cons

[Company names]

1. Chini International Co., Ltd.

2. Panama-based LIAADI International Co., Ltd.

3. Taiwan Jou Bei Co., Ltd.

Why three companies? Because all three are the same—they all work for the Chini Maternity & Nursing brand. Many companies like to establish branch offices on small islands~

Chini Maternity & Nursing is a counter brand found in department stores throughout Taiwan, yet it managed to do something like this. As expected, traditional industries really are unsurprising 🙂

[Reasons for calling them out]

1. “Asked” employees to take 20% of their salary to buy company gift certificates

During the pandemic, because the company’s sales had dropped by more than 50%, even after successfully applying for government subsidies, it still couldn’t make up for its losses. So, verbally, the company “asked” employees to take 20% of their salary out of their salary accounts in cash after receiving their June pay, and use it to purchase company gift certificates to help cover the company’s losses. The 20% referred to here was 20% before labor and health insurance deductions.

For example: assuming a monthly salary of 30,000, you would need to take out 6,000 to buy company gift certificates.

What if you can’t come up with that much cash, or you have student loans? No problem—the company said you could pay in installments. You had up to three months to produce 20% of your salary. Everyone was asked to stand together through the difficult times and get through the hard period with the company.

2. “Asked” employees to use annual leave for make-up workdays

This seems to be quite common. As everyone knows, they tell you to use annual leave in advance. If you’ve just joined and don’t have any annual leave yet, you can owe it in advance; once you have leave after six months, the company will automatically deduct it~ The company is truly so considerate 🙂

3. No air conditioning

At the time, Taichung was subject to water restrictions, with water shut off two days a week. There was no air conditioning on those two days, and the office was unbearably hot and stuffy. Two-thirds of the exterior windows were broken and couldn’t be opened. Why weren’t they repaired? I don’t know either. After repeated reports, the company always said it was working hard to repair them. One colleague even suffered heatstroke, and when they reported it to the supervisor, the supervisor said: “It’s just that there’s no air conditioning. You’re making too much of a fuss!”

But, supervisor, you were sitting near one of the few windows that could be opened!

Chini has a “system” of treating employees as responsible for their work from clock-in to clock-out, so as long as the work is completed, you can work anywhere. But when I applied to work remotely under this “system,” it was rejected 🙂

During those two days without water, I wanted more than anyone for it to hurry up and rain. The two months were simply a nightmare. By the afternoon, the stuffiness made me dizzy and foggy-headed, and at night I had to get gua sha to dispel the heat toxins ☠️

4. Lots of meetings

Many companies probably have this issue, so I’ll briefly describe Chini’s situation. Out of five days a week, three or four are spent in meetings. Are there really that many meetings to hold? Because the boss wanted every department to understand what the others were working on, even if something had nothing to do with you, you still had to attend the meeting: “Learn as much as you can—it will help you a lot in the future.” That’s a catchphrase of exploitative bosses; it’s basically the same few lines on repeat~

5. The boss has very poor emotional control

If you want to cultivate patience and develop self-discipline, I highly recommend working at Chini. The boss is an unpredictable animal; for the rest, you can look at Job Eye, where former colleagues described things in greater detail. Oh, right—although they say it’s a responsibility-based system, you can’t leave immediately at 5 p.m. The boss will wonder whether you don’t love the company and will think you’re running away as if you had wings.

Those are probably the main reasons it was so bad. As for benefits, there were none: no overtime pay and no compensatory leave, so no one was willing to work overtime~

The only advantage was that you could work remotely one flexible day per week. This was quite suitable for mothers with children, who could arrange their schedules freely. In fact, working at Chini wasn’t very stressful—there were just endless meetings, and you couldn’t learn anything at work. You were simply biding your time in early retirement. If you want to retire early, I highly recommend Chini Maternity & Nursing! 👍

Pros

There aren’t many customers, so it’s very relaxed.

Cons

The checkout machine is incredibly difficult to use!

The company said the new system would be easy to use,

but it’s just as difficult to use.

Is it really that hard to find a system like the ones used in convenience stores?

You even have to enter the information yourself just to complete a transaction.

Fortunately, there usually aren’t many customers.

Pros

Working hours: Very fixed, 8:00–17:00. Overtime is not allowed; if you can’t finish your work, take it home.

The restrooms are very clean and have toilet paper. It’s actually quite difficult to think of any other advantages. If you want to coast until retirement and have children, you’re welcome to work here—just slack off.

Cons

The entire company has been going downhill. If you’re interested, you can search for “奇妮 爭產” and find many news reports about the previous inheritance dispute scandal. The company originally had around 100 employees, but now fewer than 30 remain. The professionals have all left, while the bad habits remain. Workplace political struggles are severe; they would rather bring down another department than do anything that would help the company improve.

The marketing manager in particular is extremely problematic. They have no basic marketing knowledge and are unwilling to learn, and no one knows what they do all day. They only chat with people everywhere and engage in middle-aged socializing. They also like making sexually suggestive jokes, thinking they are humorous when they are not funny at all—it is basically workplace sexual harassment.

The worst part is having an unprofessional person manage professionals. When you explain things to the manager, they don’t want to listen because they simply don’t want to learn. All they ever say is, “Leave it to you professionals,” so when something goes wrong, you are responsible for it yourself. The manager only handles the talking and can’t even deal with the boss. Whenever the boss loses their temper, the manager follows suit, then spends all day saying how pitiful they are. This is the kind of manager who brings bad luck to everyone who works under them. They cannot understand what the boss means and have no understanding of the team’s workflows or expertise. They live in their own bubble all day, believing that the whole world is against them.

They provide no resources, budget, or time for your work. They only tell you that so-and-so does a great job and then force you to produce the same results, while giving you nothing to work with. The company’s marketing budget is also highly problematic: they spend big to save small amounts. The boss acts according to their mood, while the managers slack off and watch stocks.

They may even ask you to use receipts to offset your year-end bonus, or give you gift certificates instead. What kind of year-end bonus is that? The job described in the interview is completely different from reality. Think carefully before joining. You will face workplace sexual harassment, a boss who has meltdowns all day, and a manager with no expertise who only knows how to talk. The combination of these three is enough to drive anyone crazy. However, if you simply want to coast until retirement and have children, it is quite suitable. The company’s employee-purchase prices for maternity products are very cheap.

The products are extremely expensive, but their quality is only average, and the company frequently receives complaints. The entire company thinks its quality is excellent and believes it is a major super-brand that everyone is eager to partner with. They live in an ivory tower. The boss apparently has no particular expertise and spends all day scrolling on their phone, talking about how great other people are and how inadequate we are. They also do not go out to build a network because they are extremely shy and introverted, although they become very easily agitated and vent their emotions on the managers every day. A very peculiar second-generation successor.

The company as a whole keeps going downhill, but is completely unaware of it. It still thinks it is the major brand it was more than a decade ago. Everyone capable of leaving has left; those remaining are obedient types and middle-aged people without much ability who cannot leave even if they want to.

Working hours:

Very fixed, 8:00–17:00.

Even if you want to work overtime, they won't let you, because they don't pay overtime.

They only handle it by giving compensatory leave.

------Only after joining will you find out------

Usually, by Friday, only 1/3 of the people remain at the company because everyone has unused leave that they need to take.

You cannot take more than three consecutive days off, otherwise you will lose your perfect-attendance bonus.

Being late results in a pay deduction.

Taking more than two hours of leave is counted as half a day's pay.

Year-end bonus: 1.5 months’ salary.

Employee stock ownership:

Don’t even think about it. What shares could you expect from a company that only provides plain rice for lunch?

Bonuses: They are all taken by sales, customer service, or supervisors; the people under them basically receive no bonuses.

Job duties: Google and Yahoo keyword advertising / Facebook fan page / retail stores / website event copywriting / conceiving the overall flow and visual design of campaigns

Cons

It looks quite stable, but is actually very stingy. A certain accountant is very good at offending people. Travel expense claims are a hassle, and there are also a lot of rules about buying the company’s own products.

The main point is, those products are being sold so expensively...

More than half of the employees are over 40. Turnover there is very high, and young people do not stay long.

The company also seems to take these middle-aged women for granted. Many of the rules are actually very inhumane.

Every department is pursuing its own agenda.

Supervisors steal employees’ ideas to take credit.

If you make a mistake that gets the supervisor reprimanded, they will retaliate against you. When there is nothing to do, they run out to sneak a cigarette and relax.

They are late every day. It seems to be a responsibility-based system, so they are not worried.

The Google and Yahoo keywords have erased all traces of their previous dispute over company assets. Anyone interested can ask employees who have been there for over seven or eight years.

The base salary they give you is low, and part of it is paid in cash... Why is part of it paid in cash??

The main point is that the company makes very aggressive deductions, and the stated reasons for them are strange. In any case, they just want to deduct your money.

The people in charge are incompetent but have a lot of opinions, and are easily swayed, so they will not achieve much.

In any case, upper management specifically bullies employees who are angry but afraid to speak up. If someone is too conspicuous, assertive, or capable, they will basically be forced out.

Also, why does the company have the right to ask you for invoices? To evade taxes by exploiting loopholes.
