Pros

The job provides freedom and room to发挥 your abilities

Cons

Playing fast and loose with the Labor Standards Act:

- No menstrual leave, annual leave, or special leave; everything is calculated by deducting the daily wage (plus perfect-attendance bonus)

- In the past, manager-level employees had to check the weather on typhoon days and wait for the boss's instructions that day to find out whether they had leave

- Annual leave required approval. They said they would change the system to provide annual leave, but when it was time to request it, both the boss and the owner's wife said they had never said that

- Overtime pay only counts after a full hour; overtime hours must be signed off by a supervisor to count. If you miss it, you can only blame your own bad luck. Earlier employees did not even receive overtime pay

- Whether they want someone to resign depends on the boss's mood; even if they tell you to leave that day, they will not provide severance pay

Benefits that only look good on paper:

- Monthly company dinners: None! You even have to ask yourself—maybe you will finally manage to get one after a lot of persistence

- Three-festival bonuses: NT$500 or NT$1,000, just a token gesture

- Performance bonuses: Set out in grandiose terms; as for whether you can actually receive them, ask the employees!

- Year-end bonus—calculated using the base salary. Whether you earn NT$28K, NT$30K, or NT$35K, it is simply NT$23,000 for one month

Additional note:

The boss smokes and chews betel nut around you, without caring whether you want to inhale secondhand smoke

Pros

One person per seat, one desktop computer per person

Cons

The company’s computers are very mysterious: some have AB permissions, while others have CD permissions. When you need to use one, you can only borrow someone else’s computer.

Even the manager’s computer is like this.

The restroom door looks like it’s about to fall off. During the first half of the day, you can occasionally hear flushing coming from the ceiling (presumably from the restroom upstairs).

The boss has a lot of counterfeit and plagiarized clothing—Disney, Warner, foreign brands… They treat copyright as if it doesn’t exist, while saying that they like innovation and creativity. They also joke about employees’ bodies, saying, “You eat pretty well. I’m just rather blunt—just kidding.”

Being tactless and treating it as amusing.

There is only one junior manager, a woman. She is the highest-ranking person after the boss.

The junior manager brings her emotions into her work, has unpredictable moods, and speaks in a very unpleasant tone.

If she has only mentioned something once in passing, the next day she will say, “I’ve told you many times. I’ve been saying it for days, right? Could you be more thorough?”

For things she never mentioned, she assumes I should have known and then asks why I don’t remember. It’s as if all employees can communicate telepathically and read minds.

The manager became impatient while organizing clothes herself and asked me to help. At the time, I looked around for a while but couldn’t find any hangers, so I started organizing the pants with clips.

The manager then blew up and said, “Why aren’t you organizing the clothes?”

Employee: “I couldn’t find the hangers, so I started organizing the pants first.”

Manager: “You should have asked me! Why didn’t you ask?”

Employee: “… (in my head: Why didn’t you say where they were when you clearly knew?)”

Manager: “We need to communicate. You should have asked me.”

Manager: “I know that when new employees first start asking me questions, my tone may not be very pleasant, so later you may be afraid to ask. But if there’s a problem, you have to bring it up. You need to be more thorough and think more. I know you don’t have work experience, so you’re more absent-minded. I’m not picking on you specifically—I want you to improve and get up to speed quickly.”

I only lack full-time work experience, and even if I had experience, I wouldn’t be able to read minds.

Besides, I had actually done many of the things the manager mentioned.

For example, I had organized the clothes scheduled to be shown on yesterday’s livestream, and put the same styles together.

But I don’t know whether a customer rummaged through them during mealtime. Anyway, when she went over, they weren’t hung according to style.

Then she said that I was absent-minded and not careful enough in my work.

And this was something I had done together with another assistant.

Was it all my fault?

Those are only two examples; there are far too many similar incidents to list.

A highly emotional, personal, and demanding manager.

And the pay is only the minimum monthly wage.

You don’t really learn anything.

It’s not as if I can go to my next job and tell the interviewer, “Hey, I’m really good at taking criticism.”

In short, only take this job if you can read minds.

Pros

None at all

Cons

A very ridiculous company, with pitifully low pay. The young woman they hired has absolutely no idea how to lead people and often leaves new employees standing around. You have to keep asking her what to do, and even after asking, you still have to wait around doing nothing until she tells you what to do. In the meantime, you can only stand there foolishly waiting. It is physically demanding work: you have to stand, squat, and move goods for long periods. Other than during the lunch break, you basically cannot sit down at all. Even after finishing one round of work, you are not allowed to sit down and rest for five minutes; you will be told that you are not proactive enough. In short, if you want to stay here, you have to be like an ox—working desperately without taking breaks—or you will not last. The young woman has absolutely no idea how to train people; she leaves out information here and there, and when something goes wrong, she blames the new employees. She also picks on the weakest targets. The people who are actually doing the work are mostly around 30 years old.

Pros

There is considerable room for creativity in proposing ideas

Cons

Overtime must reach a full hour before overtime pay is provided. If the overtime does not reach a complete hour, it is not paid. One full hour is paid at 133; two complete hours are 133*2, and so on.

The office is not smoke-free. The boss smokes very frequently and comes into the office every day. In addition, the studio is small and poorly ventilated, so there is basically a very strong smell of smoke in the office every day.

The policies and systems are incomplete. The 104 job listing stated that there were performance bonuses and company dinners, but I have never heard the boss mention them and have never received them. In addition, monthly company dinners are not provided.

It is unclear whether annual leave can be taken or how many days are available. If you have worked for one year, I vaguely heard from a senior colleague that it seems to be five days, subject to the boss’s approval, but it is unclear what the eligibility criteria are. If the leave is never taken, there is also no monetary compensation.

The different types of leave are unclear, including sick leave, personal leave, maternity leave, etc. As far as I know, basically any type of leave results in a deduction from your salary.

Pros

Large personal workspace with a high degree of freedom

Cons

Pros

Large personal workspace with a high degree of freedom

Cons

Violations of the Labor Standards Act

NT$1,000 deducted for each day of absence (including personal leave and typhoon days, excluding annual leave)

No menstrual leave

Annual leave is calculated only once a year

The 104 job posting stated that there was one employee dinner per month, but there was none

The monthly salary agreed upon during the interview already included perfect-attendance pay (NT$2,000)

If a monthly salary of NT$25,000 was discussed without clarifying the perfect-attendance pay, the monthly salary would be NT$23,000 excluding perfect-attendance pay

After working for one year, there is a one-month year-end bonus, but the year-end bonus is only one month of the Labor Standards Act basic salary of NT$23,000, not one month of the individual’s monthly salary

Overtime pay is calculated based on the basic salary of NT$23,000, at NT$133 per hour. The boss’s wife said that this was already an additional amount

The boss sends messages on LINE incessantly late at night. Even when taking annual leave, employees may still be asked by the boss to work and send back the results

Employees are suddenly asked by the boss to work overtime, or are told within two hours before the end of the workday to launch a limited-time special offer or upload a promotional campaign

This leaves employees scrambling and exhausted

The boss’s wife is extremely rude and does not understand how the team operates or the rules

When the boss’s wife assigns tasks and employees explain that they cannot be completed because of system issues, she only says, “Why?” and “I don’t know either—what should we do?”

She can even be aggressively pushy while employees are working, making demands and asking questions that are beyond ordinary comprehension

Everything depends on the boss to clean up the mess, take care of the aftermath, and handle the interpersonal side of things

When the office work has come to an end, employees may still be asked to help ship orders if the shipping volume is high

The boss says, “Everyone should help one another.”

At the end of last year, the boss began operating a Korean group-buying and proxy-purchasing business. The boss said that all the steps and procedures had already been planned

But the large shipping bags needed for dispatch had not even been ordered in advance. Advertisements and extended advertising campaigns had to be arranged at the last minute

The veteran employees complain about the boss every day, but take no action, allowing the boss to do whatever they want and not reporting them

If anyone can stay at a company like this, I admire them :)
