Pros

Recently, we happened to go on an overseas company trip together, so I became more familiar with colleagues from the Tainan and Hsinchu branch offices. They handle different client projects, with some specializing in public tenders for groundbreaking ceremonies in various industries, while others are responsible for ESG strategy planning for media and corporate clients.

No wonder I sometimes feel that when the boss occasionally goes to Hsinchu or Kaohsiung for meetings, it’s…

Cons

I think it’s okay. After all, no job is going to be quiet every day. If you have the ability, go start your own company; those who love to brag just keep going around in circles, only knowing how to talk! Doing your own job well and gaining a sense of accomplishment is what matters most, right?

I’ve been with this company for half a year now. At first, I saw many mixed reviews online, but I thought I wasn’t the kind of person who gives up easily, so I applied anyway..

I think one advantage of working here is that you can learn how to write proposals. Different requirements call for different content and planning.

I’ve found it to be much better than I expected, and I’ve completed several proposals. My monthly salary is now nearly 50,000.

At least I feel that the boss puts employees first. They will speak up for employees when dealing with difficult or unreasonable customers.

They also don’t let partner companies take advantage of us, which is the biggest difference compared with my previous company!

Another highlight is that whenever there are meetings or events, the company pays for the food, drinks, and entertainment before and afterward—and we get double pay..

Cons

Although the company has a lot of projects, each team takes turns writing proposals. The boss also has a strong personality; if they don’t think a proposal is good enough, they would rather not submit it carelessly.

So the person responsible has to keep revising it and adjusting the layout. That’s still better than having the client reject it~~

The more tiring part is that the company requires everyone to read two magazines every month and give a reflection report during the Monday meeting⋯⋯

Of course, it’s routine for clients to ask for proposal revisions again and again. But you can’t refuse if you want to win the project, so you just keep revising, or put forward different evaluations. There are plenty of really annoying clients, and they often still choose the cheapest option (what a pain 🤪)

You can come and experience what it’s like to have a boss who exploits and mistreats employees.

Cons

Not long after I started working there, someone privately messaged me to warn me to be careful around the boss because he is extremely vindictive. He also doesn’t pay salaries on time and has a severe tendency to procrastinate, and he even likes to lie. However, he is very passionate about this industry, and I didn’t want to judge someone based on what others said, so I still wanted to give it a serious try. As it turned out, the boss’s procrastination really was extremely serious. Not once did he deliver the things he had promised vendors on time—he constantly missed deadlines. Of the presentation proposals I prepared and handed to him, not a single one was ever satisfactory. When I asked what was wrong, he couldn’t explain clearly and would just say, “If the client says it’s not good, then it’s not good. Why are there so many reasons and excuses?” But if you don’t explain what’s wrong, how is anyone supposed to know what to change? As for his tendency to lie, he lied to vendors. Even though the company had only one employee, he insisted on saying there were 15 people. He never remembered a single thing employees reminded him about, such as meeting times with vendors, items vendors needed, or the final deadline for submitting proposals. Every day, the group chat was filled with vendors asking, “When can you provide the materials?” He would even blame employees for not checking his work when he himself had made a mistake. You couldn’t discuss issues objectively with him because he would think you were talking back. Communication was completely impossible. If your life has been too comfortable, you’re welcome to come experience it here.

It still has to be said that, in the past, many graduating students were affected because many companies put things on hold due to the pandemic. At least, I think the company I’m currently with is very good 👍👍! Also, at a normal company, supervisors are naturally expected to ask about and monitor progress, so I think that’s perfectly normal.

However, the boss also has quite a distinctive personality. He feels that if someone is a “strawberry generation” type, or is unwilling to do their homework or lacks a reading habit even before entering this industry, it is basically very difficult for them to create a good proposal.

I’ve been with this company for three months now, and it feels pretty good. Despite the ongoing pandemic, there are still projects being planned and carried out.

Cons

I’ve been with this company for three months now, and it feels pretty good. Although we’ve encountered the pandemic, the company continues to have projects being planned and carried out, with work scheduled through the end of the year. Besides regular meetings and working from home, if you want to take online courses for professional development, the company provides a 60% subsidy. The company may not be large, but at least every step of the process is solid and thorough. Compared with my previous company, where I couldn’t learn anything in much depth, I think this is really great!

There really aren't any...

Cons

Ideally, everything should be improved... Once you get in, it's completely different from what was actually described. I was laid off and wasn't even properly covered by labor and health insurance. I think this one sentence is enough to prove what its strengths and weaknesses are, right?

Pros

I feel that my two years of work have been quite good overall. At first, I was very worried that I wouldn’t be able to meet the company’s or clients’ requirements. After all, I’m responsible for visual design, so there have indeed been projects of various sizes coming in continuously. However, as long as the schedule is arranged and communication with clients is clear, there isn’t really anything too difficult to deal with.

Before joining the company, HR asked whether I wanted to use my own computer or one provided by the company. Although the company does provide computers, I’m more used to my own. Once I got into the habit of backing things up, I didn’t feel that it caused any particular inconvenience.

Cons

Everything else is pretty good. As a designer, it’s inevitable that there will be times when we have to rush to meet deadlines. In the afternoons, the company prepares red bean cakes from around Yanji Street, along with plenty of snacks—it’s pretty nice!

I feel that, for me, the flexible hours—and the fact that you just need to understand what the boss wants—are actually quite challenging...

Cons

PR agencies simply don't have a clearly defined end of the workday. But if you're capable, who would dare complain? It's about understanding where your own value lies...

Pros

The woman from the company next door is very kind.

Cons

1. Before the interview, they said they would properly arrange the computer equipment. Later, they changed their story and said employees would initially have to bring their own computers, and that it would be handled on Monday or Tuesday… Two months later, the computer still had never appeared. (This shows how efficiently they handle things…)

2. In addition to requiring employees to use their own personal computers for work and bring them to and from work every day, when a computer breaks down, the company says it is the employee’s own problem and has nothing to do with them. They do not even provide a computer-use allowance, and they are unwilling to pay the cost of recovering company files. (At the beginning, however, the company makes it sound very good, saying they are willing to take responsibility, understand employees’ difficulties, and will absolutely not be stingy about providing compensation.)

P.S. If your own computer breaks down and causes files to be damaged, the boss will repeatedly tell you to take responsibility yourself. They will also baselessly accuse the employee of trying to steal company assets. This cycle continues: if you do not provide the files, they will threaten to bring civil and criminal lawsuits against you, even after you have told the company how to recover its data and how much it will cost. In the company’s view, the people who are not responsible are always the employees.

3. The employment contract and rules are extremely vague:

They will definitely tell you that the working hours are flexible and that you do not need to clock in or out! The company says overtime pay is difficult to define because they do not know the actual value of the output (put bluntly, this means they do not want to pay overtime and want to exploit employees as much as possible). At first, they will say: if you work on designs late, you can come to the company later or see how to make up the time off. But without a contract, all of this eventually becomes a reason for the boss to claim that an employee was absent without permission or late, and to dismiss them. So please think carefully—or make sure the contract is written very clearly.

4. The boss is always right, and whatever the boss says goes.

If you do graphic design, you must be mentally prepared for the style and direction of your work to change at any time because of the boss’s mood or delays in the project schedule. This can result in having to redo everything or being forced to work overtime at home until morning at the last minute. (But they will definitely say it was because you did not discuss it with them.) At first, they may say that A looks good. After you produce it, they may see a B-style design online and say that the B direction is also good… When you ask what is good about it, their answer will be extremely vague. (It is truly a job that greatly trains your logical thinking, communication skills, and ability to withstand pressure.)

P.S. Even if you are right, you must raise questions very tactfully, or you may easily be misunderstood as talking back.

5. The boss is extremely impatient, but much of that urgency comes from their own last-minute preparation, and you are expected to bear the consequences together. Alternatively, when the company wraps up a project carelessly, the boss may ask employees to submit materials on their behalf because they are afraid of being reprimanded, and ask employees to lie to the other party by saying that the boss is away on a business trip and has not returned.

6. Also, during the interview, the company will tell you: “Small companies offer more diverse things to learn.” (I do not deny this.) At the time, I also thought it would be good for me to put myself through some training. But I finally came to realize that if a company cannot even fulfill the small promises it makes during the interview, and cannot arrange even the most basic computer equipment, how can you believe that many of its later promises will actually be fulfilled?

If a company has been operating for a long time, yet there is only the boss present during the interview and you will be its only employee, there must be many questions worth investigating in itself. (The points mentioned above are only the tip of the iceberg.)

This is a warning, so please think carefully. If you decide to join, protect the rights you are entitled to as an employee, and protect all of your own assets.

Think twice before applying.

The company’s computer equipment is terrible—the kind that makes you want to flip the table.

Having weekends off is just for show. Even on holidays and after work, the boss will message you and tell you to do things. Of course, overtime pay is not possible either.

If you don’t do what he wants, he’ll start nagging you relentlessly. He’s also very impatient and will keep rushing you to finish your work.

There are very few employees, only around five.
