Pros

The name sounds good, so you think you’ll amount to something.

You can slack off and do a lousy job, and still get the same year-end bonus and raise.

Cons

1. The promotion system is not transparent. You won’t know your performance evaluation; it’s entirely based on the supervisor’s discretion.

2. The year-end bonus and raise amounts are basically the same for everyone—a communist system.

If you come in and slack off, you can still receive the same amount of money as everyone else, so there’s no need to worry. Likewise, even if you work yourself to death, you’ll still get the same year-end bonus and raise.

3. At Evergreen International, you do work for Evergreen Marine but don’t receive the marine division’s year-end bonus, and the annual salary is pitifully low.

4. You won’t starve to death, but you won’t make any money working there either.

Pros

Complies with the Labor Standards Act

That's it

Cons

People looking for jobs naturally hope to see some genuine reviews. After all, before setting foot in a company, apart from what you learn during the interview, all you can do is search online for reference. With that in mind, I’m sharing my four years of experience at this company for everyone’s reference.

First of all, because it is a large company, it absolutely follows the Labor Standards Act. It does not offer more than what the law requires, nor does it violate the law. There are no three-holiday bonuses, and there is one box of mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The year-end bonus is determined based on the company’s operating conditions. Generally, the company only recruits recent graduates, but perhaps because fewer people are applying, it has slightly relaxed this requirement to accept people with previous work experience (so far this year, there has only been one person with one year of work experience). Indeed, for a recent graduate, the company’s starting salary is higher than that of the general industry. After three years, there is a promotion exam and a salary increase. Although many people consider this a good point, there is actually little room for advancement afterward... During my four-year career, I came to understand why the company only recruits recent graduates. Whenever anyone tried to raise an opinion, it was shut down without exception (based on my personal experience), because the company likes obedient, quiet employees. Many supervisors were promoted precisely because of this. Unfortunately, I was unlucky enough to encounter a supervisor who did not even understand the purpose of the company’s forms. Of course, there are also capable managers, but they can be counted on one hand. I guess I must have failed to do enough good deeds in my previous life and simply wasn’t lucky enough to work under one of them. The company provides lunch, which many people think is great, but I’m the kind of person who gets diarrhea three out of five days, so... I won’t comment further. The company may appear to have a large workforce, but in reality, there are not many people who can actually get things done and solve problems. The company’s business spans the globe, so being called in the middle of the night is standard, and being called during holidays is also expected. There is no one available to take turns.

That’s my personal experience, shared for everyone’s reference! I hope you all find a job that suits you!

Pros

1. The company complies with the Labor Standards Act. If overtime exceeds the limits stipulated by the Labor Standards Act (working hours cannot exceed 12 hours per day, and employees cannot work seven consecutive days—even being called in to handle 30 minutes of business on the seventh day counts), the HR department will communicate with the supervisor, so the company tries to avoid this as much as possible.

2. The company provides delicious and generous lunches. Employees can also bring their own containers to pack up the remaining food and take it home.

3. If employees have any suggestions for the company, they can still communicate them upward through their department supervisors and the various levels of management.

4. Employees' base salaries are relatively high, so if the year-end bonus is three or four months' salary, it may be equivalent to six or seven months' salary at a typical company.

5. There is a good training system.

Cons

1. Because the company operates worldwide, nighttime in Taiwan is still working hours in Europe and the Americas. Operations at hotels, yards, and ports also continue on holidays. If an urgent issue needs to be handled, business matters must be dealt with even at midnight or on holidays. However, in such cases, employees can choose to take compensatory leave, allowing them to start work later the next day.

2. Because the organization is large and has many levels of hierarchy, everything must be supported by documentation so that the source of various changes can be audited and traced later. As a result, there are many application and approval procedures, and administrative work is relatively complicated and less efficient than at a small company.
