Pros

The boss is in a good mood, so poor performance doesn’t matter.

Cons

A 30-year-old company, but there is no systematic promotion process; everything depends on the boss’s preferences. The boss favors employees who graduated from national universities and accept low starting salaries—this is clearly educational discrimination. There are more managers than subordinates, and each subordinate has to deal with two or more managers. If a subordinate accidentally makes a mistake, the manager first tries to shirk responsibility, while the boss directly seeks out and blames the subordinate. New hires receive no time to learn or prepare and are sent straight into the field to face clients and shoulder major responsibilities alone. Managers only care about their own performance, so subordinates should be careful. The company operates under a responsibility-based system. The boss is suspicious, the general manager flatters superiors, and there is severe internal conflict. If you want to join this company and can tolerate low pay, being framed by colleagues or managers, educational discrimination by the boss, flattering managers, and vicious infighting aimed at bringing others down, go ahead and apply! If you are sweet-talking, you can get hired. Lasting one month is already impressive; lasting two months shows resilience; lasting three months means you are tough enough to endure it! If you stay for more than a year, don’t expect a raise!

Pros

Some vendor contacts are reasonable people who can be communicated with.

Cons

1. New hires receive no training upon joining. They are simply told to look through the shared-drive files, but the shared drive is a complete mess—finding anything is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Without knowing anything, you are thrown straight into dealing with clients or vendors, only to have your professionalism and internal handover issues questioned. It is extremely embarrassing.

2. There are no SOPs.

3. Compared with more experienced managers, senior supervisors lack basic knowledge of design aesthetics and marketing planning, making it somewhat difficult to reach a consensus during communication. Sometimes they do not respect frontline employees’ ideas and refuse to communicate.

4. During the interview, they said that overtime was generally not required, but when occasional overtime did occur, they provided neither overtime pay nor compensatory leave (saying it had to be requested in advance), because the position is classified as a responsibility-based role.

5. The starting salary is low, salary increases are minimal, benefits are scarce, the company’s hardware and software are outdated, and senior management’s thinking has failed to keep up with the times.

6. Although it is a small company, internal factions are extremely divided. Even if you just want to do your job properly, you still have to worry about taking sides. It is truly exhausting.

7. Colleagues frequently pass the buck.

8. The content of the previous two points is all true. Even after several years, things are still the same. Frontline employees have very few opportunities for promotion. This place is suitable for coasting toward retirement; young, capable newcomers seeking challenges are advised to skip it entirely.

Pros

Flexible working hours—you can simply leave work as late as you arrived.

Cons

There are few promotion opportunities for entry-level employees, so ambitious young people are not advised to join. Older employees occupy the positions above, and unless you are willing to wait until they retire, you will remain at the entry level for your entire career. Meanwhile, your workload will gradually increase every year, as management continually assigns you new tasks or clients.

The company operates under a responsibility-based system. If you need to work outside the office, congratulations—you should prepare for unlimited unpaid overtime. There is no compensation for arriving at the office early or returning late to visit clients. Management only cares about performance and does not care about employees’ circumstances. Employees are often sent to handle situations alone despite insufficient training, which can be a great way to develop your ability to react.
