台灣三菱電機股份有限公司
Pros

1. The company name carries prestige.

2. Suitable for developing your skills before changing jobs; the company offers many subsidies that employees can use, and you can also spend company money on further professional training.

3. Short working hours (7.5 hours per day); it is estimated that over 80% of the company’s employees leave and arrive on time.

4. Even employees with poor abilities can work until retirement at age 65, safeguarding employees’ right to work.

5. Executives who appear in negative news can continue serving as executives and receive high salaries, safeguarding employees’ right to work.

Cons

1. Low starting salaries, slow salary increases, and little difference in performance evaluations; the turnover rate among young employees is extremely high.

2. Younger employees have heavier workloads because most senior “fat cats” cannot be ordered around, so the workload of younger employees is increased instead.

3. The company does not respect expertise; if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. How can the company improve?

4. Workplace bullying is serious. In particular, Japanese employees sent from Japan have a good relationship with the president and speak more forcefully, so most people do not dare to resist.

5. Staying at this company for a long time will definitely leave you lacking competitiveness. Young people, please do not let your legs go numb.

6. You will find that people who complain that the company is no good are usually “fat cats” who lack the ability to change jobs and instead hope the company will accommodate them so they can live even more comfortably.

7. Those in higher positions mostly put their own interests first, which completely contradicts Mitsubishi Electric’s slogan.

8. It is estimated that the company’s average employee age is close to 50. The low turnover rate is because no “fat cats” resign; it is young, disposable employees who leave.

9. There is no such thing as retaining talent here, so do not foolishly believe the big promises made by managers.

Pros

1. Lots of paid leave

2. A place to coast until retirement

Cons

1. Low starting salary, with slow salary growth

2. The political culture is extremely serious

3. Although there are clear promotion regulations, ….

4. A very self-important company

5. They do not actively fire people, but will crazily force them to resign and smear them

6. They have very little respect for professional expertise (finance staff can do sales, sales assistants can do finance, general affairs staff can act as salespeople, and salespeople also have to double as sales assistants)

7. The relationships between men and women are comparable to the plot of a Taiwanese soap opera

8. Taiwanese senior managers abuse their authority and stir up trouble;

Japanese managers do not manage anything (they return to Japan after completing their 3–4-year terms)

9. Being able to talk is considered more important than being able to do; those who know how to curry favor with superiors live comfortably and carefree

10. Working overtime means you are not capable enough; if you do not work overtime, they will say your workload is light and assign you more work

Pros

None

Cons

Every day, I work overtime and still can't finish everything. It's truly exhausting.

The company's reputation sounds good, but that's all it is.

A five-month year-end bonus,

but the regular salary is very low.

Managers don't manage anything; they only make grandiose claims.

It's a bureaucratic corporate culture that is very closed-off, with everyone passing the buck.

The company only seems to value people who are obedient, well-behaved, and know Japanese.

There are a lot of gossipy, arrogant aunties at the company.

There are also many old men who just sit around chatting and don't do any work.

The system is terrible—it's completely stuck in the previous generation, with none of the feel of a large Japanese corporation.

It can help pad your résumé, but you should choose carefully if you plan to stay for a long time.

Unless you love working overtime, are highly resilient, and don't mind office politics, bureaucracy, and gossip, you're welcome to join.

Pros

The job duties and related company benefits were explained in great detail. The benefits are good, with an annual bonus of approximately 5–6 months’ salary, but the salary itself is really not very high. The number of days off is also higher than at typical Taiwanese companies, and there is a summer vacation.

Cons

Personal experience

The interview process was divided into two rounds—it took an excessive amount of time, which was a bit ridiculous....

The first round consisted of an interview and a written test (English TOEIC questions, a Japanese JLPT N1-level short essay, and professional subjects depending on the position applied for).

The second interview lasted nearly 40–50 minutes.

I heard there were three interviews (I never heard back after my second interview.....)

Pros

A company where you need to accumulate considerable experience before the compensation can be considered good.

The salary is nothing like Japanese-company standards. The hiring requirements are extensive, so suitable candidates are not easy to find.

As for holidays, it depends on the department. Although the company claims that its annual leave is more generous than required by the Labor Standards Act, and that there are additional designated rest days besides the two-day weekend (as of 2018, these depend on actual operating conditions and are not guaranteed), whether you can actually take leave depends on the workload. If there is too much work to finish, or if a major event or schedule in Japan coincides with a holiday in Taiwan, employees may still be required to work.

There is currently an unwritten rule that employees at the rank of associate manager or above are not paid overtime. This seriously affects employees’ willingness to pursue promotion, and it remains unknown whether the policy will be adjusted or revised in the future.

The one-fixed-day-off-and-one-flexible-rest-day policy means employees cannot be asked to work on Sundays, which is a “very heavy” cost for the company. There are rumors that this may eventually be reflected in employee bonuses.

Management prefers employees who are obedient, compliant with, and accepting of all company regulations, regardless of whether they are reasonable. Employees with too many ideas can therefore easily feel frustrated.

The company places great emphasis on strengthening management. Each department spends a great deal of time writing reports and negotiating internally, resulting in low work efficiency. Benefits have continuously declined compared with several years ago.

For people without many strong personal opinions, who can adapt to a bureaucratic culture, are willing to curry favor with superiors, are ambitious without opposing company decisions, have above-average Japanese ability, and are willing to treat work as a lifelong career, Mitsubishi Electric is a decent choice.

Pros

A good company for retirement.

The products in the Electronics Division are difficult to sell, managers slack off when they are out of the office, and there is serious internal conflict.

Overall, the benefits are good.
