Ten Ren Tea Chikyushiki Shilin branch, the one next to the gas station

The head chef is disgusting. During the interview, he made everything sound very appealing, but it was all just a set of tricks.

After I started, he began yelling at people and messing with you, putting on a show in front of everyone. He even arrogantly said, “Are you messing with me?”—blaming others first. It was absolutely disgusting.

When I argued back, he even blocked me inside the freezer when I went in to get something, saying it was my problem.

He’s basically a thug.

During the interview, he said there was no seniority-based system and that everyone was like family. But after I started, the senior-junior hierarchy was extremely rigid—nothing like what he said during the interview.

The salary was only NT$31,000, which was also different from what was stated online.

The worst part is that this head chef has already been working there for 20 years.

Many new employees there have already been unable to take it and couldn’t stay.

They also said that, basically, if you resign and send the company the documents from the medical examination you paid for yourself, they will tear them up and throw them in the trash. If you ask for them, they’ll say, “We won’t give them to you.”

You can’t even get the medical examination documents that you paid for yourself. They threaten you to stay longer.

You also have to provide two guarantors for the job. It’s truly outrageous. It’s not as if you’re doing something major that requires two guarantors.

If you’re thinking of working here, think carefully.

This company left me with an extremely bad impression.

Pros

Stable salary and benefits

Cons

The head of the design department has emotional management issues. No one stays for long, and the department has a high turnover rate. Although it is nominally called the design department, the actual work is no different from that of a graphic designer. You will not gain any sense of accomplishment and will also be constantly humiliated. You may end up needing to see a psychologist because of the job. Anyone considering joining should think very carefully.

Pros

The salary comes in every month

Cons

In the face of minimum wage increases, the food and beverage industry is always short-staffed.

It used to be impossible to hire anyone at 26,000, and recently it was raised to 28,000.

But the problem is that existing employees did not get a raise. Stores that are not making money may not even increase wages by 500 a year.

You can only watch as new employees’ salaries get closer and closer to yours.

The salary ceiling for full-time employees is around 30,000. Above that, becoming an assistant group leader is difficult, and after going through all the hardship to get promoted, the starting salary is only 31,000.

The hourly overtime pay calculation for full-time employees is very strange—the hourly rate is even lower than the minimum wage. To save money, the company prefers that you use the positive-and-negative working-hours system.

My advice is to work at a store that makes money. At a store that loses money, the bonus may be only 500, while at a profitable store it may be over 2,500—a very large difference.

Pros

Basically, the benefits comply with the Labor Standards Act, so it can be considered a law-abiding company.

Cons

A family business; desirable positions are often given to the children of certain individuals who are parachuted in.

The company moves at a snail’s pace, with slow decision-making that fails to keep up with trends, often realizing too late that it has missed opportunities.

It may be necessary to wait for these old-fashioned senior managers to retire and for the next generation of managers to take over before any changes can be made.

Pros

“Base salary + bonus”

Bonuses depend on the store manager’s allocation.

A good manager takes you to heaven—selflessly shares knowledge through training, allocates bonuses fairly, and is willing to let you get promoted.

A bad manager takes you to hell—allocates bonuses unfairly, believes that as a full-time employee you are responsible for everything, alters your time records when you work overtime, and mobilizes every possible personal connection and source of pressure to target you when you apply for mediation. Even when you have reached the seniority threshold for promotion, they will suppress you for personal reasons (thinking, “Why should I give my people to headquarters?”).
