Pros

1. The salary is relatively good among equipment distributors

2. Five afternoon teas are provided every month

3. Subsidized team meals are provided every quarter

4. Employee trips are provided

5. Seasonal bonuses are provided

6. You get to work with a lot of new equipment

Cons

1. It is a family business, and the father and son often have differing opinions, which makes getting things done very difficult

2. The boss has an extremely high opinion of himself and constantly talks about how we are a 60-year-old established company

3. When the boss loses his temper, he raises his voice at employees

4. The standards for distributing bonuses depend on the boss’s preferences

5. It appears to have a well-established system, but in reality there are more slogans than substance. Every quarter, we have to conduct reviews and hold an annual goals meeting, but they are basically just reports with data that are not very meaningful. We review roughly the same things every year

6. Aside from sales, whose KPIs can be measured by performance, it is unclear what the standards are for other departments. This makes it easy to do more and make more mistakes, while doing nothing causes no trouble. If you do more, the boss will not thank you; instead, they will bring it up later to criticize you

7. The younger boss has many ideas: he wants to do a whole host of things and acquire a whole host of agencies. The problem is that there is neither money nor people, which exhausts those who already have a heavy workload

8. The boss often contacts people outside working hours

9. Professional expertise is not particularly respected. There are many meetings, but after discussing things for a long time, the boss still makes the final decision

10. Staffing allocation among departments is somewhat problematic; some people really have very little to do

11. People who have stayed for a long time have really stayed for a long time; everyone else has a high turnover rate

Pros

The HR representative was very thorough, but it felt like they wanted to dig into everything. Some questions I tried to dodge were brought up again, and they seemed very eager to know everything about my previous company.

Cons

The office atmosphere was oppressive. During the interview, I had to fill out an additional, extremely rigid form with an excessive amount of information—it felt like a résumé form that should have been phased out 10 years ago.

The position was advertised as a website marketing planner, but I was only told upon arriving that performance would be evaluated, making it essentially a sales position. I was caught completely off guard, and based on this, the claim that there is no overtime may not necessarily be true. After the HR representative and a supervisor, there was also a second interview with the boss and the assistant's son. Since I prefer a more lively office atmosphere, and the location was in an extremely remote part of an industrial area, I declined the second interview.

Pros

None

Cons

1. Meetings are held every day, lasting at least an hour and a half from top to bottom; the purpose of the meetings is to improve performance, but they do not solve any problems.

2. There is no comprehensive planning or system. Basically, everyone just does their own thing; when there is a problem, it is simply pushed onto someone else.

Those considering joining should think it through carefully.

If you ask me, work is not just about the salary.

Pros

Pros

1. Your powers of observation with your eyes and ears will improve.

2. If you are a fresh graduate, you can learn a lot because you have to do everything.

Cons

Cons

1. It is a family business, so the company benefits and salary structure are highly subject to change.

For example:

The weekly afternoon tea was canceled, quarterly department dinners were changed to once every six months, the quarterly bonus for internal staff was canceled and replaced with bonuses paid on three holidays (one-quarter of the base salary), and no one knows how the previous quarterly bonus was calculated. Typhoon days are unpaid.

Company trips were canceled and replaced with applications for employee travel subsidies, calculated based on years of service. The minimum seems to be NT$2,000 (I can’t remember whether it was for employees with one to two years of service), and the maximum is NT$12,000 (you need to have worked there for more than 10 years).

2. The brands distributed are sometimes represented brands for external marketing.

3. Although the system has been updated, it is still relatively outdated.

4. High employee turnover.

5. The work atmosphere... Don’t have expectations, and you won’t be disappointed.

Pros

1. The frequency of bonus payouts is fairly good

2. You can get a free health checkup at the end of the year

3. The year-end party and company trips are pretty good

4. The company has a certain level of recognition and does business with many international brands, which can broaden your horizons

5. The office environment is clean, and the air conditioning is always turned up high

6. You can now wear casual clothes on Fridays, and the dress code is fairly relaxed in general

7. Relationships among colleagues are fairly good. We can communicate rationally when issues arise and help one another

8. It is very convenient to buy food near the company, with many shops nearby

Cons

1. The salary was lower than what HR initially told me, and it was not increased to the promised amount after the probationary period

2. The employee turnover rate is too high. HR alone changed three times during my employment, so even if your duties are changed to something different from the original role, there is nothing you can do—the HR person who recruited you may already have left

3. There are simply too many meetings, and the content is often repetitive or the meeting topics are unclear. Basically, if the boss wants to hold a meeting, they can call you over at any time

4. It is a family-owned business. Some employees joined through family connections and use their connections to bully others, dump work on you, and usually speak very loudly to make sure everyone hears them

5. Benefits and rules are changed from time to time, becoming completely different from what was originally discussed, without any explanation of the reasons

6. The boss and employees often have communication problems, mainly because the boss does not truly understand the difficulties employees face in implementing things

7. It is relatively stable work in the short term, but it does not offer much long-term career benefit. The company does not have a good promotion system, and managers prefer to bring in parachuted hires

8. Sometimes, for a simple matter, the boss, vice president, and chairman—who are family members—may each have different opinions and make their own revisions. This causes a single matter to drag on for a long time, with changes still being made in the end

Pros

Pros

It probably had what a three-section benefits package should have (this was around 2013 for me; I don’t know about later).

Cons

Cons

The company atmosphere was serious. Employees had to wear uniforms to work, and women even had to wear skirts (even if they weren’t in the sales department).

The salary left a deep impression on me. I stated the salary I wanted, but after hiring me, HR wrote down an amount that was actually NT$5,000 less, saying it was because of the probation period and that it would reach the agreed amount afterward. Once the probation period ended, they only added NT$3,000, then said that the higher-ups wouldn’t approve such a large increase all at once. Seriously? I stated that salary in the first place because that was what I wanted. Did you clearly report it to the higher-ups? Oh, apparently not!

Otherwise, how could there be such an excuse as “The higher-ups wouldn’t approve increasing it by NT$5,000 all at once”? (If you had reported the salary I requested from the beginning, the higher-ups probably wouldn’t have hired me—but you really wanted to trick me into coming to work.)

Daily, weekly, and monthly reports were all standard practice. Even KPI evaluations depended on how the higher-ups were feeling. There were many rules, and team spirit was emphasized heavily. There were lots of activities, and everything required a multi-step approval process that seemed never-ending~~~

Pros

1. The reason I’m not giving a negative review is that the attitude was still fairly kind.

2. As shown in one of the reviews, HR asked fairly detailed questions.

Cons

The position I interviewed for was “E-commerce Marketing and Graphic Design Specialist.” Take note~When you see the word “specialist,” you know it means doing miscellaneous tasks!

The listing on 104 was written very briefly. It was only after going to the interview that I found out that, besides graphic design and planning, the role also included sales, product shipments and receiving, and inventory quantity control—a one-stop-shop concept. HR said the company discourages overtime and hopes to cultivate someone who can work independently (skilled in both writing and practical tasks), but it would be difficult not to work overtime when one person has to handle everything, right? The company has 80 employees! Isn’t that cutting labor costs a bit too much?

Pros

A very conventional company. It offers all the standard benefits, and organizes or participates in exhibitions for overseas photography equipment brands. There is not much need to come up with new ideas; you can simply follow the existing approach. It might be a pretty good place to settle in for the long term.

Cons

There are countless exhibitions of all sizes to attend. Overtime and business trips are fairly routine in the marketing department. Overtime pay is only available if you apply before 4 p.m. and get your supervisor’s approval, but no one wants to work late, so almost nobody applies. The outdated systems never seem to get changed. Even junior employees have to fill out a daily work report and email it to the boss every day—I don’t know what the middle managers are for. The company is located in a somewhat dated commercial building. The office itself is okay, but the hallways, among other areas, have a very strong cigarette smell~

The company atmosphere is serious

Salary and benefits are average

HR is very professional and asks detailed questions based on your résumé. This part takes a lot of time, and then they start cutting the salary by giving various reasons, such as saying that your previous experience is very ordinary and not particularly professional.

I feel that this interview was a waste of time
