Pros

HR is really great

Cons

Wastes people's time and travel expenses; after giving an offer over the phone, they said within less than 24 hours that the headcount was full. A lousy company, and the salary isn't anything special either.

Pros

The frontline employees are all quite easy to get along with.

Cons

There seems to be a considerable generation gap between management and frontline employees. Many young employees with good educational and professional backgrounds gradually leave after working for about 2–3 years. Several departments use PIPs (Performance Improvement Plans), while in some departments, managers deliberately target employees to force them out. Several departments still have a more traditional, closed, and authoritarian management style, similar to that of traditional industries.

Pros

None

Cons

The company is in Xizhi, and it’s still quite a distance from the train station. I absolutely do not recommend going there.

When HR initially contacted me for an interview, I asked whether the annual salary was at least N*16.

HR told me it was, so I agreed to an interview.

Before the interview, I had to complete a bunch of tests and fill out a personnel information form, which even asked for my annual salary at my previous company.

The professional test before the first interview involved HR playing the questions through TEAMS and asking me to write the answers on my own paper.

After answering every 5–6 questions, I had to ask HR to scroll down.

After completing all the questions, I had to photograph the answers and send them to HR electronically.

The questions were quite simple. I felt I had scored at least 90 points.

The first interview with two supervisors lasted an hour and a half.

A few days later, I had a second interview with the vice president, which lasted an hour.

Later, HR interviewed me again for half an hour and kept repeating the same questions.

I had already explained why I left my previous company in both the first and second interviews, but HR kept asking about it repeatedly…

Then HR explained the benefits and compensation.

There are only NT$5,200 worth of gift vouchers for the three major holidays.

And the annual welfare points can only be used to purchase the company’s products.

Later, they asked about my expected salary: did both the monthly and annual salaries have to be higher than those at my previous company?

I said that just one of them meeting the requirement would be fine. Also, it only needed to be “equal to,” not necessarily higher.

As a result, two days later I received a rejection letter from HR through 104.

They didn’t even give a reason.

They also didn’t make a salary offer and ask whether I wanted to go.

When they initially contacted me for an interview, I first asked whether the annual salary was at least N*16.

HR even said it was. In the end, after the second interview, they didn’t even discuss the salary—they just sent a rejection letter.

Look at this company’s median salary for non-managerial employees: only NT$700,000… It’s still far below the N*16 annual salary I expected…

They trick people into interviewing and waste their time. What a garbage company.

Pros

The interviews with HR and the supervisor were pleasant.

A newly constructed building.

The benefits are considered fairly good in Yilan (average for the tech industry).

Cons

The interview with the vice president felt very unpleasant; they were not very respectful.

What this company seems to need are obedient servants.

People with too many opinions probably will not be hired.

The salary is fairly average.

Employees on regular day shifts may need to work overtime on holidays.

Employees working shifts are required to work overtime on all scheduled workdays.

Pros

The first-round interview process was relaxed.

Cons

A company that casually stands people up for interviews.

After my first-round interview this Monday, they contacted me the next day to invite me to a second-round interview. I called HR and said I needed to think about it, and HR said we could schedule it for the following week. But the very next day, they emailed me to say that I no longer needed to come for a second interview.

I called HR to ask for details, but HR said that they had reported to the second-round interviewer that I wanted to think it over, and the second-round interviewer said they had many candidates, so my second-round interview was canceled.

It left me feeling very bad.

Pros

- The company is located in a new building, and the hardware and facilities are good.

- The company appears to have been quite profitable in recent years, as seen from its financial reports and stock price. The benefits and year-end bonuses also seem to be good (but the salary is uncertain).

Cons

- I did not apply to this company; they contacted me for an interview. However, during the interview, HR questioned matters that were already clearly stated on my résumé, questioned the applicant’s lack of stability, and so on. They also emphasized, “If you haven’t thought it through, we really don’t recommend that you join our company.”

- The interview was conducted by HR and the department manager together, but HR took the lead. Objectively speaking, HR’s attitude was not bad, but they lacked sufficient expertise regarding the specific position and the technology industry. As a result, their questions were often overly vague and unfocused, while the department manager sitting nearby was not very proactive in asking questions or providing further explanations.

- Compared with professional ability, they seemed more inclined to look for employees who would stay for a long time and be obedient. During the conversation, they repeatedly emphasized that their company was growing and highly profitable, and even asked whether the applicant had looked at their financial reports. They later added that because their products are complex and difficult to learn, they cannot be mastered in a short period of time; therefore, even employees who stay for a long time still need to keep learning. The sense of superiority in their remarks was rather uncomfortable.

Conclusion: Overall, the benefits seem good, and the company does appear to have potential. However, it seems more inclined to hire stable and obedient employees, with ability possibly being secondary. After the interview, it was fairly easy to understand why the company has good prospects and benefits, but also why employee reviews of iThome are generally not very positive.
