Basically, there is little overtime.
Free boxed meals are provided for overtime in the evening.
Choose your department carefully. A good department manager will give you plenty of valuable work experience; a bad manager may keep you busy with aimless work. The characteristics of a bad manager are also quite obvious: aside from having a high turnover rate, if the work they assign differs from their expectations, they will think there is something wrong with you, and you will need to spend a lot of time proving the validity of your work. Moreover, they do not take responsibility for the work they assign, and they may extend your probation period without specifically telling you!
The only advantage is that the workload is not heavy, making it suitable for people who are retired. That’s it.
1. Bonuses: There are none when the company doesn’t make money.
Even when it does make money, they are not particularly generous.
Basically, there is no baseline. Employee bonuses are always the company’s last consideration.
2. Benefits: I don’t think there are any benefits worth mentioning.
3. Salary adjustments: When the company doesn’t make money, you get only a few hundred dollars more.
Even when it makes a lot of money, there is no intention of making up for what was previously withheld.
3. I do not recommend that newcomers join. The company does not have a complete training process for new employees, and overall progress is very slow. I strongly advise against it for newcomers who want to strive and advance.
Conclusion: The semiconductor industry in Taiwan is currently doing quite well. I don’t think there is any need to waste such a good opportunity at this company—unless you have no particular plans for the future, in which case you can still stay here, I suppose.
Supervisor said: high potential, the clients are major global companies
1. On the first day, new hires worked 15 hours, and averaged 14 hours per day thereafter.
2. Overtime pay is not necessarily reported or paid.
3. Spend the whole day in the fab conducting experiments with nanoimprint lithography processes, handling strongly acidic and alkaline chemicals as well as developer.
4. Very low starting salary
The designer base salary is very high. Previously, the signing bonus policies of NT$900,000 over 3 years and NT$1.2 million over 2 years pressured new hires to make a choice, which apparently caused dissatisfaction and was also criticized on PTT’s Tech board. Later, the company changed the policy by directly spreading the amount across the monthly salary. After completing two years, new hires receive an additional salary adjustment to NT$90,000–100,000 per month; you receive it for as long as you work there. For employees with the same seniority, Taiwanese IC companies probably have no competitor in terms of monthly salary, so the company is still showing some sincerity.
The company is still expanding several promising product lines, so designers can build a solid foundation. There are quite a few strong employees.
Annual bonuses vary widely and depend on the boss’s mood. Any amount exceeding US$10,000 is also subject to a lock-in period. The company has offices in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, and work is often passed back and forth between them.
The salary is within an acceptable range.
In the near future, it will probably move toward a sweatshop model. New managers have already started asking employees to work overtime while explicitly saying that they cannot claim overtime pay. If you choose the wrong department and follow the wrong manager, you’re doomed, and your mood at work will be terrible. The company has new technology under development and should treat its employees well. I don’t understand what it’s trying to achieve by being so harsh at a time like this... Who are you trying to force out? It’s one thing if incompetent people leave, but who knows whether the ones leaving will be talented employees. The company’s senior management doesn’t understand this principle, so I guess all that’s left is to wait for the company’s downfall.

The salary is at a reasonable level, and the work is not too demanding. If it’s the Tainan plant, the quality of life should be good, and it’s also a decent place for newcomers who want to learn.
The boss decides whether to pay out money based on their mood. Sometimes the company makes money but doesn’t give employees anything, instead investing in new technology. Other times, when too many people leave, they increase compensation. You have to work there for a long time to receive it. The salary is not particularly competitive compared with other companies in the same industry, and morale can sometimes be low.
