Pros

The manager I met during the interview was wearing ripped jeans and casual shoes, with their messy hair clipped up with a claw clip. The questions they asked the applicant made it obvious they had never looked at the applicant’s information. They kept scrolling on their phone while talking to people, giving the impression that they did not really seem to be looking to hire anyone at all.

Cons

Treat interviewees with respect. Don’t scroll on two phones and then ask the interviewee to repeat themselves.

Pros

1. Leaving work on time

2. Buy near-expiry items at 30–50% off

3. Occasionally, you can eat the same-day discarded items from the neighboring sushi restaurant for free (made fresh that day)

Cons

1. Only minimum wage

2. Not much opportunity for overtime

3. Inventory counts take place in the middle of the night, and you need to provide support in other counties/cities

4. Classes are held in Taipei

5. The purchasing department often carelessly sends goods, including expired items

6. Logistics deliveries often have discrepancies in item types and quantities, as well as expired items

7. Basically, returns have to be processed every half month; otherwise, the goods will pile up

8. The food department is very demanding and is responsible for over 70% of the work in the entire store

9. The product layout is changed about once every 15 days, followed by an inspection from headquarters.

The display arrangement usually fails to pass inspection.

After employees finish arranging the products, the assistant manager/store manager is dissatisfied, so they have to do it again.

After the headquarters staff inspect it, they are dissatisfied, so it has to be done again.

10. There is a mystery shopper every month. Some are extremely difficult, while others are very nice.

Even when everything is explained thoroughly and you maintain a smile,

they may still rate the service poorly afterward.

They are basically unreasonable customers who deliberately come to make things difficult.

Pros

None

Cons

There was a labor inspection violation case in 2019.

The managers may not know much about the world outside.

They often use illogical rhetoric to get things done.

The department-level manager believes that everything below them should be handled properly, which is understandable.

They only say, “Just do your job well,” but do not help or discuss things along the way.

I don’t know how they get their managerial allowance, haha.

They think that since they pay you, you should do everything well, which is also understandable.

But they do not support you at all. It makes little difference whether they are there or not—they are just another person supervising you.

They are extremely nice to vendors and only want to be the good person both externally and internally.

It is also impossible to discuss how to do things, because they only look at what you propose and then reject it point by point.

In the end, their proposal is similar to yours.

They often say, “Having done this for so long, do you think I don’t know how to do it?”

Mm-hmm.

But anyway, you will encounter this kind of thing wherever you work, so it depends on whether you think the salary is worth it.

Pros

You can occasionally eat delicious chocolate.

Cons

1. You have to work standing for eight hours, and there are absolutely no chairs to sit on.

2. The coworkers are extremely difficult to get along with; if they discover that you are younger than them, they will make things difficult for you endlessly.

3. There are extremely many unreasonable customers, and the supervisors will not help block them.

4. Monsters and demons haunt the Royce chocolate counter—stay away~

Pros

Able to leave work on time

Cons

No salary increases

Difficult to get promoted

There are often many parachuted-in managers at the supervisory level, while very few are promoted from frontline employees.

As a result, there are many inexperienced full-time junior managers (they know nothing yet can still earn more than full-time employees).

Head-office managers often visit the stores and insist that the displays and arrangements be just like those at JASONS supermarkets.

There is absolutely no distinctiveness of our own; they simply want the store employees to imitate other supermarkets.

By all means, do not go to the operations departments (household goods and food).

At this company, as long as you are a full-time employee (not a manager), the salary is more or less the same.

Your salary will not differ because of your department.

Therefore, in the operations departments, you have to move heavy goods, manage expiration dates, work overtime during changeovers, and so on—in other words, one person is made to do the work of three, making it an exhausting department.

Meanwhile, in the cashier and customer service departments, you only need to handle checkouts and serve customers; when the time comes, you can easily leave work, with absolutely no overtime required.

The salaries are all the same!!!!

Seriously, don’t even think about applying here.

Pros

• Standard working hours are 8 hours, though there may be shift changes (around twice a month) or temporary overtime due to staff shortages. As long as the team leader or store manager approves it, overtime can be reported, and the overtime hours can be taken as time off the following month.

Cons

• There are many complicated tasks, and the store is chronically understaffed, so one person ends up doing the work of three.

• There is a lack of training in product expertise, so many things require figuring out on your own. You may even become more capable than a team leader who does not know how to train people.

• Department stores have many difficult customers, and the store manager or other superiors will never take your side.
