If you can handle working six days and resting two—early, early, mid, mid, night, night, rest, rest—then come apply~ The shift changes every two days. After working for six years, I couldn't take it anymore and said goodbye. The system, supervisors, and colleagues are all pretty good. Although there are many odd people, they're all good people~

A supervisor's salary, but when equipment needs to be replaced, all he does is tell others to get the tools—he won't come up and get them himself. He even pushes proposals that his own production line should be responsible for onto others to do. Someone like this can still stay with the company for over 20 years. It's truly better to have a bad employee than no employee at all.

Pros

The advantage is that the disadvantages are obvious enough.

Cons

HR and the plant department clearly did not coordinate at all; they scheduled the interview times as if they did not know each other. The process was really just constant waiting. Then, the benefits they described sounded very good, but in practice, the ones you can actually enjoy are for “office staff,” not technical personnel. If you can tolerate getting up early and working night shifts within six days, come and be a brave warrior.

The position I interviewed for as a master's graduate was an accounting role requiring assignment across the strait. After waiting for ages, I was called in for the interview, only to find that the starting salary was still NT$25,000... Given my education and experience, my previous job had offered a starting salary of over NT$40,000. Hearing this starting salary was utterly shocking and completely unacceptable! After coming out and waiting for a while longer, HR simply said that the supervisor had something come up and that they would see how things went and contact me later. Do they think everyone is a fool? Does it cost nothing to travel to an interview? After waiting for ages, does other people's time not count as time? HR is merely a puppet, calling a bunch of people in for interviews just to placate those old-fashioned supervisors! Absolutely terrible!

The interview process was extremely unprofessional and showed a complete lack of vision! Even when people arrived on time, they still had to wait for HR to contact the supervisor. If the supervisor could not be reached, we just had to keep waiting, and then candidates were slowly called in for interviews one by one. After the interview, we had to wait again to be contacted about the supervisor for the next round. But if HR received word from the supervisor of the previous round that they might not be suitable... they would simply say that something had come up and that they would contact us by phone later, dismissing the interviewee immediately! Just thinking about it makes me furious! It's basically a bunch of idiots...

You can often take time off.

Cons

Whenever there is work, they shout that they are short-staffed; when there is no work, they put people on unpaid leave.

Low pay, hard work, poor conditions, unable to recruit enough staff—applicants are hired immediately after a single interview.

Cons

Working rotating shifts 24 hours a day—morning, afternoon, and overnight—and yet earning less than NT$25,000 or NT$26,000 a month is truly astonishing. Is sacrificing a normal routine and sleep really worth so little?

There are no advantages to speak of.

Cons

Every month, NT$100 is deducted as funeral expenses whenever an employee's family member passes away—NT$100 for one death, NT$300 for three deaths. This is a very inexplicable deduction. With so many employees, someone dies every month, so we are almost charged this fee every month. We do not even know whose family has had a death, yet this money is deducted from us. Besides, what does someone else’s family member’s death have to do with me? What gives you the right to unilaterally deduct this money from me? Did you obtain the employees’ consent? Moreover, frontline employees are charged NT$100, and managers are also charged NT$100. Is that consistent with fairness and justice? Regardless of how much we earn, we are charged the same amount. We contribute the equivalent of one hour (NT$100) as our sympathy—do you contribute only ten minutes’ worth of sympathy?

During the interview, make sure your phone is fully charged. You end up waiting around for a long time; while it is presented as valuing you, in reality it reflects poor planning and inadequate coordination between HR and the department manager.

I am a former employee. They try to recruit talent with salaries from twenty years ago. Previously, our supervisor even told us to use up leave that could have been claimed as overtime, supposedly to help the company save money. In addition, every year we had to propose improvement plans that would cost nothing and save money. If we could not come up with one, we were not allowed to take leave, were failed on the exam, and given a “B” rating. Their supervisors only know how to use outdated thinking to take advantage of employees. They are also very good at creating conflict between internal team leaders and team members, encouraging us to fight among ourselves because that makes us easier to manage. On top of that, we conducted many pointless experiments every day. This company sounds good but is not actually good; the pay is pitifully low, the supervisors are inhumane, and they use prosecutorial-style tactics to attack and criticize people. Anyone considering joining should think it over very, very carefully.

During the interview, I was kept waiting continuously—one person after another—for two and a half hours. The actual interview lasted no more than 20 minutes. At the end, they said, “Please wait a moment,” but after another 30 minutes, they finally found someone to come out and say that the interview was over for today. In the end, I wasn’t hired either. They treated the interviewee like a fool.

The company’s starting pay is low, and quite a few departments are genuinely awful. The managers only want to curry favor with upper management and work hard to get promoted, while ruthlessly suppressing those below them. In my department, none of the lower-level employees has received a promotion in twenty years, while the manager alone rose to deputy section chief. On top of that, an assistant manager occupies the section chief position, and the section chief and deputy section chief desperately take work from other departments and bring it back for lower-level employees to do. There is absolutely no sign of any future here. If you really want to join, you must have connections. Coming to such a miserable department—you might as well leave. As for why I don’t leave? Because there are only a few years left until I can collect a lump-sum payment. Of course I’ll leave after collecting it.

The company benefits and policies are acceptable, but the starting salary is below the market level. The starting salary in 2016 was the same as it had been 20 years ago…

Some department managers—honestly, they’re really terrible…

Given the excessive demands, the salary clearly does not match the job responsibilities…

Relationships among the company’s senior management are complicated and intertwined. Those without connections face great difficulty getting promoted.

All I can say is… the waters run deep.

If you want to earn more money, find another company…

Otherwise, by the time you rise to a position with a high enough salary, you’ll often be preparing to spend it on medicine.

Sincerely and without exaggeration,

Written in February 2017 by a second-class employee who had worked at this company for over 20 years.
