Pros

1. Good performance is reflected in bonuses; over the past two years, I received approximately 18–19 months’ worth.

2. The office environment is quite good, with a restaurant, massage therapists, and physical therapists available by appointment.

3. The product teams put a lot of effort into developing new products, especially lighting-related products.

4. The management team explains the company’s operating status to employees every quarter, and there is also an employee stock trust plan.

Cons

1. The parent company, Qisda, has acquired many affiliated companies in recent years, creating the risk of over-diversification (?)

2. There are always some long-tenured employees in each department, but they do not really affect the atmosphere of my own work.

Pros

There is a basketball court, though it was closed during the pandemic...

A good place to cultivate both physical fitness and character

The buildings are impressive

Physical therapy services are available, and the therapists are highly skilled

Cons

1. Office politics are extremely serious.

2. During the pandemic, club activities were suspended, while other facilities, including the restaurants, continued to operate normally. The logic behind the pandemic-prevention measures was unclear.

3. A lot depends on the department culture. If you end up with senior employees who take credit for others’ work, a boss who takes away from your performance evaluations, or a leader who simply does not care, you will have very little motivation to work.

4. Communication in cross-departmental collaboration often causes problems. There is no standardized SOP, which occasionally leads to features being added at the last minute.

5. It is a “happy enterprise,” but the salary is quite unhappy. Raises are even more depressing, though this also depends on the department; in the right department, you should be able to earn a decent salary.

6. In some departments, veteran employees spend the entire workday browsing Facebook and chatting about gossip, while newcomers work diligently all day, yet the veterans still receive noticeably larger bonuses.

7. During a previous work-from-home drill, the same building was divided between Qisda and BenQ, resulting in Qisda conducting the drill while BenQ did not. The rationale and significance were unclear.

8. It has the standard Taiwanese-company mindset: whether it comes to hiring, compensation, or trust, the people above take the credit while those below take the blame. However, this also depends on the department.

9. The system is rigid and inflexible. Even though, under the new Labor Standards Act system, most publicly listed companies still retain seven days of flexible leave, our company completely eliminated those seven flexible-leave days.

10. Former employees receive notices that the company overpaid their salaries and that they must return the excess to the company. HR’s professionalism still needs improvement.

Pros

The direct supervisor and senior manager are very straightforward.

Cons

I originally had no intention of interviewing with this company. I was notified after my resume on 104 was viewed, and the HR representative who contacted me kept calling relentlessly.

During the interview, both the direct supervisor and senior manager were nice. However, HR kept giving me motivational speeches and, intentionally or otherwise, trying to convince me not to ask for too high a base salary, saying that the company relies on bonuses (bonuses for an internal position??).

HR kept complaining that my information was incomplete and asking why I had not finished filling it out on their website.

(They are in the same group as Qisda. When you fill out the information for BenQ, they complain that you have not filled out Qisda's information. After you complete Qisda's information, they complain that BenQ's is still incomplete. It leaves you wondering which company you are actually applying to.)

Finally, after I interviewed in the morning, the direct supervisor told me that afternoon that I had been accepted and to wait for HR's notification.

Then... nothing happened. Whenever I emailed HR in the meantime, there was no response.

In the end, I emailed the supervisor directly. Only after the supervisor followed up with HR did I receive HR's belated call informing me that my salary had been cut and asking whether I still wanted to come (in a very arrogant tone). When I said yes, they gave me less than seven days to prepare and asked me to onboard, without caring about the start date I had originally entered. In the end, because I was already employed and could not start within seven days, I was forced to give up.

Throughout the entire process, from the interview to the end, HR acted high and mighty, called relentlessly, left me hanging without responding, and withheld the formal offer (the only confirmation that I had been accepted came from the direct supervisor). I would only recommend it if you are extremely willing to put up with being mistreated and scolded.

As an aside, this is shared with Qisda. At first, I was notified by BenQ HR, and then the supervisor replied to me using a Qisda email address. It was very confusing.

The salary was negotiable, but I was directly told, “That’s all there is—take it or leave it.”

It heavily depends on getting along with your supervisor; if they dislike you, you’ll be out the door in no time.

You have to prepare your own charging cable. It was quite amusing to hear that for the first time; even stationery and other supplies aren’t provided.

I wanted an extra monitor for development, but was immediately told it wasn’t appropriate. Although I was eventually allowed to use one, I guess that may have created resentment at the time?

There is no overtime pay, only compensatory time off.

I worked on Mac/Windows development. During the probationary period, I fixed a pile of bugs and worked intensively every day, with virtually no time for breaks. I didn’t make many mistakes either, but I was told I wasn’t suitable for the position. During that period, no one told me what needed improvement or gave me any feedback.

All I can say is: run.

The company seems to place considerable importance on nationality and passports when recruiting. Sometimes it even gives the impression that these criteria matter more to them than a person's actual work capabilities and level of professionalism, which is truly astonishing. Moreover, the overall work environment is not very healthy. Unfortunately, some people who are not particularly capable instead seem to enjoy targeting other colleagues in the marketing department, and there have even been instances of workplace bullying, which the company does not appear to have addressed proactively.

Pros

1. The office environment is quite good

2. Salaries are paid on time

3. Salaries are adjusted every year

4. People who are thick-skinned or can tough it out can stay for a long time

Cons

1. The company's political struggles and factions are very obvious

2. The company assigns people with absolutely no experience as parachuted-in managers (there are so many parachuted-in managers without professional expertise~~~)

3. Senior employees and managers have a great deal of influence, and newcomers are often bullied

4. The longer you stay, the better off you become; newcomers receive no training, yet have to handle low-level work and tasks dumped by some senior employees, resulting in severe salary inequality

5. Product lines and managers can change at any time, and the organizational structure is unstable

Pros

The benefits are fairly good.

Cons

During the probationary period, I was told that I was unsuitable and was asked to resign voluntarily and cooperate in putting on an act. Everyone had to use the same wording: “Unable to adapt, so they chose to leave.” We were also not allowed to tell other employees; the supervisor had to inform the other colleagues collectively after the resignation, out of fear that it would affect or frighten other new employees.

Pros

Good benefits

Cons

1. During new employee training, we were taken to Hsinchu for group activities with everyone. It was run as if it were a Carnegie course, involving activities unrelated to the expertise required for our jobs. Non-participation was not an option, and those who did not cooperate were publicly humiliated by the instructors. Every day went on until the middle of the night for no apparent reason.

2. There are many redundant employees internally who just coast along, while factional conflicts between management levels are also common. Talented people are driven away.

3. I finally understood why this company has never been able to innovate: its products always imitate those of other brands instead of leading the way. A comparison makes it clear.

Cons

Although I had already received an offer from another company, I thought I would come and learn more about the job duties.

Of course, the following interview experience may have been caused by my poor ability to express myself during interviews, meaning I may not have been able to adequately answer the interviewer’s questions.

But everyone can make their own assessment.

At first, there was a male interviewer, who was probably a first-level manager.

His attitude was okay, but he asked quite a few professional questions.

During the interview, he asked about my English proficiency and said that English would be needed for the company’s business, so he asked whether I could give a self-introduction.

My English speaking ability is terrible, so of course I honestly declined.

Later, someone who was probably a second-level manager came in.

She wanted to understand my reasons for changing jobs and my experience at my previous company.

She also asked many professional questions.

When I explained the work processes I had used at my previous company,

I could vaguely sense an attitude of “How could that be?”

Throughout the process, I could feel that she was dissatisfied.

Well, that was not a big deal. Finally, she asked again about my English proficiency.

I honestly said that I could not speak English.

But because I had known from the beginning that I did not meet their requirements,

I also directly explained why I could not.

Finally, the female interviewer said once again that English was very important at the company, and that if I could not meet that requirement, the interview would end there.

I know this may have simply been an excuse to end the interview, but it was really astonishing...

As an aside...could you please read the resumes of the people coming in for interviews carefully?

Overall, I had a very bad impression.

This company previously said that regardless of whether an applicant was accepted, they would definitely notify them within one month! But they didn't. They don't keep their word.

Pros

The HR staff were very kind.

Cons

The two interviewers had a very unfriendly attitude. Regardless of whether they were asking questions or the interviewee had just finished answering, they kept exchanging glances, which made me feel very uncomfortable and disrespected. They required the interviewee to provide a presentation of their work the day before the interview and said that if they were not satisfied, the interview could be canceled. In that case, there was really no need to waste both sides’ time—or make someone travel such a long way just to endure their reactions. This left me with a very negative impression of BenQ. We have many BenQ products at home, but there will be no more in the future!

Pros

I once interviewed for an information engineering position.

Before the interview, I took an aptitude test and an English test similar to TOEIC. After that, I had an interview with the direct supervisor. The supervisor had a very pleasant personality, explained the job responsibilities in detail, and asked about my personal interests and willingness. Overall, the interview process was conducted in a harmonious atmosphere.

Cons

The second-round interview was directly with the department director. Unlike the previous interview, it was more high-pressure, and I could clearly feel a style different from that of the direct supervisor. The director’s questions focused more on my own experience and personality, such as: What was the most frustrating event or experience you encountered in your previous work experience? Please explain the strengths and weaknesses of your personality. What event or experience in your previous work experience gave you the most confidence? These questions required me to elaborate more about myself, and naturally, my answers could also be used to challenge me.

Many talented employees usually do not stay at this company for long because the senior management is deeply entrenched, making it difficult to drive innovation.
