Pros

Leaving work on time

Cons

This company is basically a disaster in the fashion design industry.

1. Whether it is the store display design or the clothing style, by industry standards, the brand’s style is a complete mishmash with no clear positioning.

2. The designers and the marketing department manager have an extremely inflated sense of self-satisfaction. They constantly brainwash new employees with statements such as, “We are a very expensive designer brand, so our Xxx must be very high-end.”

3. The designer-owner and the manager use the “we are a designer brand” label to exploit employees, demanding higher-quality work while being extremely stingy about the tools employees need to do their jobs. They refuse to pay for even a roll of tape or some basic props and equipment, and after employees provide them themselves, they still treat it as only natural.

4. Piracy and image theft are rampant. The company extensively uses images randomly taken from the internet as marketing materials, makes simple edits or manipulations with software, and then uploads them to Facebook or other platforms. It even encourages employees to do this, and the software itself is pirated.

5. The marketing department manager is a textbook example of an outsider leading experts. They have no real understanding of marketing concepts and can only use their seniority to bully new employees. When employees propose reform plans, they only suspect that the employees are trying to shirk responsibility. Then, after finding an opportunity to use them, they fire them.

There are many more shortcomings that cannot all be listed here. Finally, I would like to say this frankly to the fashion designers and the marketing manager: People can be ignorant, and they can be incompetent, but please do not be both at the same time. Even if you are both ignorant and incompetent, please do not think you are someone important. Have some self-awareness and learn humbly, okay? Look at the aesthetic sense of Shiatzy Chen and at other designer brands—that is what a designer brand is. You do not even meet the standard of fast fashion, so please stop looking down on others, okay?

Public transportation

Cons

The following is an attempt to reconstruct the interview process and dialogue as accurately as possible, without emotional wording or subjective commentary.

At the interview, the “general manager” conducted the interview, accompanied by two senior employees, three people in total. They appeared to be approximately 50–60 years old.

The general manager did most of the talking, while the other two appeared to be there mainly as supporting participants.

When the general manager spoke, one of them would unconsciously nod in agreement.

The interview was scheduled with the company for exactly 10:00. I arrived at 9:48.

The general manager’s first words were:

You’re late.

One of the employees spoke up and said that it was scheduled for 10:00.

The general manager said:

“Is that so? Could I have remembered incorrectly? I also scheduled an interview with someone from Cathay, so wouldn’t the times overlap?”

“You graduated from a certain XX department. Why would you want to do this? Isn’t that field and leisure-related work very popular now?”

During the conversation with the general manager, when asking about the job duties, the general manager emphasized that our brand is very expensive.

Applicants need to have basic knowledge of clothing.

When I asked what “basic knowledge of clothing” meant, the following was a summary of the conversation with the general manager:

“Because the items are expensive and have a high unit price, we need to inspect the stitching or the neckline of the outsourced garments, and whether the neckline can fit over the head. Someone with experience doesn’t even need to try them on. If some of the outsourced work is done well, there’s no need to trim the loose threads at all.”

“You would essentially have to relearn everything. Experience in apparel pattern making would be even better. Since you have no experience, the salary is NT$30,000.”

※The “job-search website” listing only mentioned packing and inspection—work content even more basic than fast-fashion online retail—and did not clearly state that a degree in clothing or apparel was required, nor provide information about pattern makers or related work experience.

Pros

It seems there are none.

Cons

The female manager who invited me to the interview was quite polite and seemed like a very nice person. The other interviewer was probably the owner, and gave off a self-centered, “I’m the best” kind of vibe. He spoke sarcastically, and the salary was under 30,000, which is pretty pathetic.

It also looks like this graphic designer position has been open for two or three years without any changes. I suggest the owner change his personality first; otherwise, I doubt anyone will want to apply. Also, the company should decorate its office a bit—it looks extremely like a warehouse. A company that calls itself a fashion brand has a design office that looks like a packing warehouse; it’s really ridiculous. If the company’s own interior looks like this, how can it expect its designs to be any good?

For everyone who doesn’t want to be humiliated, I advise you not to go to the interview. Other companies offer much higher salaries, and don’t act as though they’re doing you a favor by hiring you. If you were humiliated during the interview, it’s not because you’re not good enough—the owner is just clueless. As the saying goes, “What kind of bananas, what kind of monkeys.”

Pros

I don't think there were any.

Cons

An extremely rude company.

The company proactively sent me an interview invitation through a job-search website, asking whether I was interested. After reading the job description, I agreed to go.

During the pandemic, they conducted in-person interviews, and the interview took place on the first floor of the company building, with people constantly coming and going.

There were three interviewers: one very young person and two more senior employees. The first thing they said when I arrived was not to greet me (the interviewee), but to walk over while holding my résumé, sit down, and ask the young employee: “Why did you invite him here for an interview?”

Clearly, they had not done any preparation. It also felt as though the young employee had sent out the interview invitation just to meet a quota, because during my interview, the other two kept scolding that employee: “Why are you sending out invitations randomly? Why are you being so careless with your work?”

The interviewers also did not ask me to introduce myself. They immediately began asking questions such as: “Have you ever worked in the clothing industry? How are your photography skills? Do you understand marketing?” and so on.

I applied for a graphic design and marketing position. The website said that recent graduates were welcome to apply, required at least a high school education, and asked for one year or more of work experience. The salary was indeed pitifully low—at the level typically offered to entry-level fresh graduates.

However, the company expected you to handle:

1. Professional photography (setting up the lights and managing the studio alone, without an assistant), as well as professional photo retouching

2. All of the company’s graphic and visual design

3. Operating and updating the online store

4. Brand marketing and event planning

5. Copywriting

6. Warehouse management

7. Other tasks assigned by supervisors, and so on... the list goes on

One of the interviewers also asked: “Can your photography skills enable you to complete a fashion shoot by yourself?”

I answered honestly: “I have studied photography, but I’m not a professional photographer. However, I’m enthusiastic about learning and researching photography techniques.”

Interviewer: “Then where will you learn? No one at our company will train you. How long will it take before you can work independently? What will you do if you can’t meet the company’s

requirements?”

Well, there’s no need to say much more. That is simply this company’s attitude.

In short, they want to pay you a meager entry-level salary while making you do 99% of the company’s work.

Throughout the interview, they repeatedly showed disdain toward the interviewee, along with an air of pride and superiority about their own company.

Finally, the interviewer said to me: “Although our company is short-staffed, we’re not in a hurry.”

Okay ^-^, I think they’ve already been short-staffed for more than three months.

I have already successfully found a job myself.

I just feel that, no matter what, there is no need to treat people this way. If an interviewee doesn’t meet the company’s needs, couldn’t they simply thank each other and wish each other well? This interview lasted for more than an hour—were they treating the interviewee as entertainment?

I also hope everyone will absolutely avoid interviewing with this company, and especially avoid working there!! Indulging companies like this will only make Taiwan’s workplace environment increasingly worse.

Pros

None

Cons

The office is not large.

The company’s goods are in a complete mess, and every employee looks as if they’ve been stiffed by debtors.

I was called into the director’s office for the interview.

The job duties did not match the listing on 104.

104 listed separate openings for A and B.

I applied for position A.

I was then told that position A involved the duties of both A and B.

They kept asking about the details of the previous company’s competitors.

They had no intention of conducting a proper interview and only wanted to hear gossip.

They emphasized that many of the company’s counters earn more than those of a certain competing brand,

yet they did not even offer the interviewee a glass of water.

The interview process was disrespectful.

It is hard to imagine this company treating you any better in the future.
