Pros

Two days off per week; days off on public holidays; close to an MRT station

Cons

I understand the saying that one cigarette after a meal brings happiness like that of an immortal, but I don’t understand the logic of smoking until you disappear. The company has long allowed certain people to smoke for as long as they want—some even come in for only two or three hours in the afternoon, then disappear until six? Or is smoking just an excuse, with slacking off and shirking being the real reason?

The same goes for saving electricity. During the lunch break, everyone is forced to turn off the lights, only for the electricity saved to be used by one person at night? I really don’t understand.

Pros

The welfare association subsidizes employee gatherings.

Cons

Every year, the company claims poor revenue as the reason for not holding employee trips. It has been years now. At first, it would still announce that the trip was canceled, but after one or two years, it stopped even pretending. Every year at the labor-management meeting, employees have to ask about it, and the company still says it will not be held.

The company simply took away this employee benefit. It is clearly making money, yet it spends it on all sorts of stupid things, while telling employees to “weather the difficult times together”???

One department alone spends at least several million each year just on licensing. What about personnel costs? It holds a bunch of briefings—where is the money going? How long will the company keep losing money before it is willing to deal with this? No matter how much the company earns, it all disappears…

With benefits cut back this much, I don't even know what else there is to talk about.

Cons

The old-timers are all competing to see who can be worse. A certain Muzi employee was frozen out by their former boss, but after changing bosses, they suddenly transformed and started shouting and cursing at subordinates again, including personal attacks. Isn't this workplace bullying?

They had previously even been reported to the labor bureau, and the company spent a great deal of time attending interviews. Yet they themselves refused to admit any wrongdoing and even wanted to hire a lawyer to sue the employee.

They have also gotten into a shouting match with the CFO. Impressive.

Has the company changed from a one-person show into a court of law? If you think someone is an idiot, you call them in to berate them; now it has evolved into firing people whenever there's a disagreement. Is this company really beyond saving?

Unlimited bingsu.

Cons

The company’s only photographer relies on being one of the company’s veterans and won’t even take out the trash. He often argues with everyone over things like taking out the garbage, taking on multiple people at once—his nerve is unbelievable. He spends all day hiding in the studio playing on his phone, and during work hours people often have no idea where he has gone. All he does is gossip about others. According to people from his former company, when attaching microphones to women, his hands would “accidentally” touch them; where he touched them is another matter. Women should know how to protect themselves. Even his photography consists only of the most basic static shots, and he can still have focusing problems. I really don’t know how professional he is as a photographer.

You can slack off at work without anyone bothering you.

Cons

The atmosphere throughout the company is extremely bad. Many senior employees have resigned one after another, leaving behind people who only know how to flatter others and do no actual work. These flatterers make up more than half of the company because this is exactly the kind of person the boss likes. The boss cannot listen to people who tell the truth and genuinely want what is best for the company. The boss tells male employees, “I treat you like my younger brothers,” while the boss’s wife tells female employees, “I treat you like my younger sisters.” They do everything they can to cut employee benefits. Whenever employees ask for the rights they are entitled to, they start using all kinds of emotional manipulation, saying, “I’m only teaching you.” Thanks, I guess—the two of you are the worst at dealing with people in the entire company. Most of the current employee resentment is caused by the boss’s wife. Whenever she sees some minor issue, she goes home and complains to the boss. Oh, and the boss’s wife is the head of HR, but she knows nothing. She usually even looks at people sidelong.

Also, some time ago, something happened to the boss—I don’t know what—and he was removed from the chairman’s position. Another director was promoted to chairman instead. That director has also been the subject of widespread negative news online. Now the two of them spend all day fighting and recruiting their own factions. Are employees supposed to work or not?

Let me talk about the oddballs in each department:

General Manager’s Office: The boss’s driver and personal assistant is here. Normally he acts extremely arrogant, but whenever he encounters a senior executive, the boss, or the boss’s wife, he bows and scrapes.

Social Media Department: This department was managed by the chief operating officer and seems to be about to fall apart, since the COO has also resigned. There was one male colleague who was passed from department to department because nobody wanted him. He would disappear and slack off all day, while getting close to female colleagues, ingratiating himself and taking advantage of them. He also resigned some time ago.

IT Department: The company has not had a new product for several years, so I really wonder what this department is supposed to do. The chief technology officer hides in his office all day and barely comes out except to use the restroom. I heard that two senior project managers recently resigned together. The engineers also seem not to know what they are doing all day. The MIS staff spend all day reading comics at work or disappearing to smoke; each smoking break lasts half an hour, once every hour.

Editorial Department: It is even harder to tell what they are doing. I heard they spend all day making handouts. The former senior head of the Editorial Department resigned because they were unhappy about being placed under a vice president they disliked. After they left, a new manager was appointed and the entire department went downhill.

Shipping Department: This department is overseen by a female vice president whose main talent is talking. She puts on a performance in front of the boss to gain his support, but in reality she only does superficial work. She also protects several employees with whom she is particularly close. These favored employees accomplish little but receive raises every year—when one person prospers, their associates prosper too! She is the vice president who took over the Editorial Department and caused its original manager to resign. She does not accomplish much herself but is very good at exploiting the Editorial Department.

Cloud Business Department: There have always been rumors that the manager is the boss’s godson, though this has never been confirmed. However, it is true that this manager acts as though he can do whatever he wants at the company. Since the office is located separately from most of the other employees, he acts like a local emperor at the off-site location. They only hire female employees 🤨.

If any current employees happen to see this, leave as soon as possible, or ask other people about the company’s current situation.
