Colleagues are easy to get along with, and supervisors are relatively approachable.

Communication within the company is relatively horizontal.

Employees with longer tenure tend to receive more generous bonuses.

It is a family-owned business without a good management system. Instructions are unclear and frequently change. Essentially, matters are handled according to the mood of the moment, and things are often done spontaneously, so occasional mutual reminders are necessary because the work lacks good processes and organization.

The actual work differs significantly from what was discussed in the interview. Overtime is frequent. The operating model of a small company is essentially to have one person take on multiple roles.

The work environment is in an old building that feels like it has been poorly maintained for many years. The systems and equipment used at work are also relatively outdated, and the work methods are not very systematized. Many things are still recorded manually, relying on people’s memory and handwritten or other manual methods.

Someone is hired to clean every two weeks, but daily cleaning duties are assigned on a rotating duty roster.

Leave requests require the supervisor’s “approval”.

Communicating with the manager without hierarchical barriers

The manager basically never comes into the office, only dropping by briefly every day. They only come in for scheduled meetings, or sometimes, after a meeting has been scheduled and materials have been prepared, suddenly say on the day that they will not come and cancel the meeting.

When work matters need to be handled, the manager cannot be found. When they are finally seen, the project comes to nothing. In the end, when they remember that it was not handled, they say that the employee failed to remind the boss.

The job responsibilities/workload allocation differ from what was described during the interview.

Colleagues are not allowed to discuss work matters with one another, and information is not transparent.

Colleagues are required to communicate with the manager only regarding work matters.

One of the interviewers, a supervisor, was fairly polite and answered all my questions about the company very thoroughly. They also said that employees do not need to clock in or out and that overtime is uncommon, which made the management seem quite flexible.

Apart from that supervisor, I felt the interviewers were not very friendly. I was interrupted as soon as I started introducing myself. The interview involved a very detailed investigation into my personal background, covering every question typically asked in an interview, such as my reason for leaving, the nature of my previous company and job responsibilities, interpersonal relationships, relationship status, transportation method and commute time, among others. They also repeatedly asked and confirmed whether I planned to get married, seemingly very concerned that someone might take marriage or maternity leave.
