Pros

Paychecks are issued on time, with labor and health insurance provided.

The person responsible for training newcomers is nice.

Cons

The office culture is outdated. Even after finishing your work, you can't leave on time without considering everyone's reactions (and you can't claim overtime either; if there's nothing to do, you have to find something to do yourself. Newcomers have to sit in the outermost seats to face supervisors, with many people passing by, so you have to smile often and look energetic—otherwise it's considered a serious problem. You can't access any external websites, and you shouldn't use your phone too much.

When you first join the department, the person responsible for training newcomers goes on a two-month business trip, then blames you for not taking the initiative to learn.

Pros

1. Suitable as a stepping stone to gain some experience, but not suitable for staying long-term.

The headquarters in Japan has a strong reputation, but the Taiwan branch's performance is deteriorating and it is becoming less and less capable. It is merely riding on Japan's reputation. If you want to build solid skills or learn new things here, forget it; it is fine as a place to work through basic-level experience.

There are several cases of people later moving to Hsinchu Science Park. I also came here after seeing online that it was suitable as a stepping stone to Hsinchu Science Park, but you should be mentally prepared to encounter a lot of people with poor manners.

2. Salary, bonuses, benefits, overtime pay, and leave are provided according to regulations. In this respect, the company is not stingy with employees.

Cons

Although it is a Japanese company, overall it is actually a Taiwanese company—Japanese on the outside, Taiwanese at its core.

1. The company environment is old and dated. Some areas are being renovated, but overall it is still not particularly modern.

2. The organizational system, corporate culture, and management style are very old-fashioned. You will encounter all the legendary “troublemakers from a traditional rural factory” here. There are quite a few people with poor manners, and they have all been working here for a long time. They plan to work here until retirement, and newcomers cannot shake their positions no matter what.

3. There are an especially large number of miscellaneous tasks.

4. The people here are very good at psychological manipulation. Many speak without much basic courtesy, have poor emotional control, and do not listen to others at all—there are a great many of them, including some managers.

However, as long as you maintain a sound perspective and a positive attitude, they can only make noise like monkeys. Once you have gained the experience, you can leave.

5. There are many managers who are all talk but lack ability and management skills. Because the company does not lay people off, it has retained a large number of long-serving employees. Even without ability or connections, they can become managers simply through seniority.

6. There is no comprehensive training. Joining this company is like entering a jungle: you have to figure out how to ask people or solve things yourself. If you ask someone, you may get the correct answer if you are lucky; if you are unlucky, you will do it wrong. Because the company lacks comprehensive systems and SOPs, people do things based on experience.

Pros

Low pressure in RD; the work is simple.

Cons

The manager’s abilities are rather poor, especially their professional competence. Much of the previous data was even inaccurate, so you have to rely on your own research or learning. The salary is low, and the company has poor prospects for development. I don’t think there is a chance of survival. Neither newcomers nor experienced people are recommended to join.

Low pressure in R&D, and the work is simple.

Cons

The supervisor's abilities are relatively poor, especially their professional skills. Much of the past data was not very accurate either, so you have to rely on your own research or learning. The salary is low—at least 30% below the market rate. The company has poor prospects for development, and I don't think it has a chance of surviving. Neither newcomers nor experienced professionals are advised to join.

Pros

EE was a great place—at least, I had a great experience. Once you become familiar with the work, the actual working hours can be quite short.

When I was there, the head and deputy head of EE, as well as the director, were all very nice. They didn’t play political games, so you could feel comfortable talking to them.

However, I’m not sure whether they’re still there, given the turnover rate.

There wasn’t much pressure, and there was plenty of time for self-learning. If you use your time well, you can learn a lot. (The company doesn’t block external websites, so you can study online on your own.)

It’s very suitable for EEs who want a relaxed job or for newcomers who want to add some firmware experience to their résumé.

The only real downside is that the pay is too low. After I left, my annual salary at my next job immediately doubled—and then some.

Cons

The pay is too low.

There are some superficial policies. For example, promotions are subject to seniority requirements, so even excellent performance can still be held back.

Some RD departments have extremely high turnover. I can’t speak for other departments, but EE is genuinely good. However, EE and Program Control are separate departments; I only recommend EE.

Pros

1. R&D has a lot of say, and you can learn quite a lot of knowledge and know-how.

2. Overtime is uncommon (unless you get assigned a particularly difficult project).

Cons

1. The salary is very low.

2. A certain boss and a certain manager are terrible (R&D).

3. Promotions are usually based on seniority, resulting in a bunch of useless people in upper management.

Only come if your family is financially well-off. Also, Yangmei is pretty boring, so think it over carefully.

Pros

The employee cafeteria is pretty good.

Cons

1. The sxx unit has already driven away two newcomers because of old-timers who abuse their seniority. At first, they pretend to be friendly, but then they start raising their voices and making things difficult. The workload varies depending on who is calling the shots, and three middle-aged women take turns backing each other up. The supervisor knows perfectly well but will absolutely never deal with it.

2. The work environment is poor and closed off; even being in the restroom for five minutes is criticized as taking too long.

3. Outdated management has left the overall way of working stuck in old-fashioned thinking.

Pros

Paid on time, follows the Labor Standards Act, and provides Mid-Autumn Festival and Dragon Boat Festival gift vouchers.

Cons

1. Closed-minded: Employees generally have long tenures, and their thinking remains stuck in the era when the company was thriving 30 years ago (but times have changed, the market has long since been eroded, and they are unaware of it);

2. The culture is outdated, with a clear hierarchical system;

3. They aggressively cut salaries during interviews. Employees with no experience are paid strictly according to the company's salary scale, regardless of their individual language abilities or other professional strengths;

4. Annual leave is provided in accordance with the Labor Standards Act, but taking leave is difficult;

5. Benefits look good on paper but are difficult to enjoy. The employee travel subsidy requires 10 years of service. Year-end salary adjustments are provided based on monthly salary (please note that monthly salaries are already drastically cut upon hiring; the year-end adjustment only slightly makes up for the amount cut);

6. For management positions, whenever an employee's family has a funeral, the company deducts 500 from the manager's salary that month; for two employees, 1,000, and so on. This policy is not disclosed before joining the company;

7. There are many overpaid, unproductive employees. New hires are not brought in because there is too much work, but because these overpaid employees cannot do it.

8. There are many lifestyle rules: mobile phones cannot be placed on desks, personal belongings cannot be left on desks, desks must be cleared at the end of the workday, and in the open-plan office, monitoring colleagues is one of the routine duties of middle managers.
