Cons

I worked at this company for a few months for a short time.

Sharing my personal experience

1. Flattery culture: flatter them as much as possible, and preferably be quick enough to get in first.

The company has an internal network, where members of the family often post inspirational articles or reflections.

At the time, I read one, understood the content, and did not leave any comments.

As a result, at the end of the month, the family’s second son (now holding the title of director) called me into the office and berated me for 30 minutes,

saying, “You’re a manager, yet you didn’t leave any comments and have no sense of belonging. How can you lead the people under you?”

After that, whenever a family member posted something, I always tried my best to be the first to like it.

2. You need to be patient; preferably bring some heavy-duty glue and stick yourself to your seat.

Once I had finished my work for the day, I left on time because I had to catch a train.

Some time later, I was again called into the office and berated.

“As a manager, how can you leave work so early? What will your subordinates think when they see that?”

Afterward, I asked the colleague next to me what time she usually stayed until.

She said she often stayed until after 9 p.m. because that was when her child’s after-school program ended.

Please—this colleague is addicted to performative overtime. Did her design projects get submitted early?

The conclusion is that managers like to see you glued to your seat.

3. Be full of positive lies and say them as enthusiastically as possible.

When running ATL advertising campaigns, only likes and five-star reviews are allowed.

For an advertisement placed on YouTube in cooperation with an advertising agency,

a viewer left a genuine one-star review. The agency actually removed it and tracked down the viewer,

asking why they had left such an irresponsible review.

In a similar situation, a customer came to complain, perhaps because they were dissatisfied with the customer service.

They left a one-star review of the company. This time, the chairwoman called me in and berated me,

asking why we had received a one-star review and ordering me to get it removed.

Seriously, why not first review how customer service handled the situation instead of asking me to manipulate the ratings?

The conclusion is that the company is absolutely wonderful—basically a Fortune Global 500 company.

4. Put on a perfect performance at work; office politics will leave you with plenty of knives in your back.

Because I was a junior manager parachuted in from outside, every time I asked the design department manager for files,

it was as though I owed her tens of millions. She always gave me a hostile look, and either handed over the wrong files or refused to give them to me.

Later, when the director asked, she would answer first, saying that the files had already been provided.

Even when I explained the situation at the time, no one wanted to listen because she had been there for nearly 10 years.

Later, a manager senior to her joined the company, and she would greet me with a smile and happily provide the files every time.

5. The family is not on the same page: two sets of instructions.

This director was my manager. According to the process, the director should approve the proposal first, followed by the chairwoman and the chairman.

But every time the director revised the proposal into something completely incoherent and sent it to the chairwoman,

she would complain that the proposal was terrible.

Eventually, the chairwoman could not take it anymore and called me over directly.

She discovered that my initial proposal only needed minor adjustments for her to approve it.

Incidentally, this family loves to say that their relationships are harmonious and that they eat dinner together every night.

Please—when it comes to projects, could you agree on your ideas and wording at the dinner table?

The son would revise it, and his mother would dislike it; after the mother revised it and sent it back to the son, he would ask why it had to be changed back again.

I couldn’t take it anymore and told the truth: the chairwoman had just said to revise it this way.

The son then said, “Revise it according to my instructions. Once it’s done, send it to the chairwoman for approval.”

And so the infinite loop continued, resulting in me being criticized for making no progress on the proposal.

During the interview, they said how well I fit their requirements.

They hoped I would come over as soon as possible. I’m an idiot who is terrible at reading the room,

and I couldn’t stand these kinds of unspoken rules.

Pros

Job-related shortcomings: High turnover, average compensation, excessively long working hours, and overly strict management.

First, let me share what a typical workday is like:

08:00 Vehicle starts and leaves; GPS tracking begins

08:30 Arrive at the store

12:00 Lunch; scheduled lunch break ends at 13:30

18:00 Leave the store

19:00 Arrive home

21:00 Fill out the daily report (20–30 minutes)

Once you lay out the daily workflow, you can see that you spend approximately 11 hours or more at the company each day.

Sales activities/company events on Saturdays do not count as overtime and do not come with compensatory leave. Even if you work until 22:00 that day, you still have to leave at 08:00 the next day. Company meetings are very lengthy; the monthly meeting lasts an entire day, from 08:30 to 18:00 (though sometimes it is only half a day). Overall, the time efficiency feels poor.

You are expected to arrive early and routinely leave late.

Vehicles have GPS tracking. If you stay in the same location for too long, a company representative will call to ask about your itinerary.

If you leave exactly on time, your supervisor will ask about it out of concern.

The daily report needs to be 100–300 words long.

This makes it easier to demonstrate that you are actually working.

This company’s benefits and compensation are very good (seriously).

They often give out cash, red envelopes, gifts, and so on, but these are subject to tax deductions.

There is no salary adjustment system. If you join at NT$28,000, you will still be at NT$28,000 five years later.

There are no 5% or 8% salary increases of that kind.

As for a salary increase, you may have to wait until someone shares more information about it.

The supervisors are all very nice and willing to teach and guide you.

However, they are also very worried that you may stop working after two months.

When I joined, I did not know how many people had already left.

Only after I left did I understand why so many people wanted to leave.

With the same NT$30,000 compensation, you can find jobs with shorter hours and higher pay.

The company’s way of managing sales staff is too rigid, so people generally do not stay long.

However, this is their company culture, and I respect that.

There is one thing I want to mention.

One day, the company said that we could work only half a day and then leave (I thought that meant leaving at 12:00 after half a day).

In the end, the earliest we could leave the store was 16:00.

Advice and information |

This sales position is not for someone who wants to coast or slack off.

They are looking for sales staff who are willing to devote their time.

In return, the company will offer good compensation.

As long as you put in the work, the company will recognize it.

If you are not a particularly disciplined or hardworking person, I advise you not to waste your time or the company’s time.

That will be better for both sides.

Cons

I hope you will not make the same mistake I did.

Make sure you have sufficient information about this company before joining.

I wish everyone success in finding a satisfactory job.
