Pros

The company is spacious and bright

Cons

I went for an interview some time ago. The Taichung branch interview was conducted by a middle-aged man in his forties, and the interview process left a very bad impression.

During the interview, they first asked me to complete an aptitude test. After I finished, they clung to that sheet of paper and nitpicked my personality, saying it did not match what they were looking for. They selected interviewees solely based on the test results, then claimed that, as a foreign company, they had many high-quality candidates. I honestly think this behavior was ridiculous. Do they think someone will want to hire them just because they boast about themselves? They dared to call themselves a foreign company, yet the interview was still conducted in Chinese—how laughable. They did not even dare to conduct the interview in English, yet they still called themselves a foreign company?

Furthermore, this company hires people solely based on the test results, so why not have applicants complete the test before the interview? Why waste both parties’ time? It was extremely inefficient and showed that they did not know how to work.

The interview lasted about an hour and a half, but only 15 minutes were spent discussing the position and learning about the candidate. The rest of the time, the middle-aged man bragged about his work experience and complained about the company’s systems. He was simply wasting the candidate’s time and using the interview as an opportunity to find someone to listen to him express his feelings. This behavior was truly pathetic; perhaps he had no friends or family around him.

The middle-aged man said they only hire female sales staff. At the end, he asked about my relationship status and visually assessed my figure. It was extremely disgusting and vulgar—essentially sexual harassment. Anyone going for an interview afterward should be careful.

In short, it is a company that claims to be a foreign company but cannot offer a decent salary.

Pros

There is plenty of food near the company, the colleagues are very nice, and everyone shares a common target of dislike—the boss.

Cons

The industry market is getting smaller, and the prospects are not promising. Employee turnover is high (low pay plus the boss uses many underhanded tactics). The company has about 50 employees, with 15–20 people leaving each year. The boss is also quite willing to fire people he dislikes (three people within two months). The boss constantly talks about valuing integrity and demands it from employees, but his reputation both inside and outside the company is extremely poor. If performance targets are missed for two consecutive quarters, salaries are reduced. For top-performing salespeople, the boss demands that they return the previous quarter’s bonus, cuts the current quarter’s bonus in half, and removes important clients from them. Regarding a salesperson with more than ten years of experience, because the boss did not want to pay a large severance package, he deliberately tried to take away all of that person’s clients.

Integrity is not something you simply pay lip service to. Everyone inside and outside the company knows that the boss’s reputation has spread far and wide. The story of going from a junior purchasing employee to general manager happened because his husband gave way to him.

Pros

The people at the bottom of the department endure hardships together.

Cons

Ironically, newcomers who are well treated are often parachuted in by senior management and can get away with doing nothing; ordinary newcomers are treated like dispatched workers.

Factional struggles within the company are severe. Those at the bottom who get caught in the middle are looked down on and can only be made scapegoats. Lower-level employees in every department leave every month, while senior management is constantly replaced along with new policies. I heard that the company once changed nearly forty people in a single year. In the less than one year since I joined, the HR staff alone have changed more than three times. Managers have been replaced so often that no one is left responsible for their subordinates. Many people in these positions do not stay for even three months; they all leave because the actual conditions differ far too much from what was described in the job offer and interview.

Every day, I worked hard and took the blame for all kinds of company matters on behalf of others. Yet I was not eligible for the year-end banquet or prize draw, and despite salaries being so low that they were below market rate, I could only watch other people enjoy themselves. In the end, the boss inexplicably took a dislike to us, decided that we did not value ourselves, and told managers from other departments to approach us privately and persuade us to leave rather than terminating us. It was truly unbelievable. Most outrageous of all, after I resigned, people from the company pretended not to know and called to chase me about getting work done.

There are truly so many instances of people being bullied at this company. I happened to see a previous employee’s comments, and they were genuinely painful to read.

Pros

If you are not under financial pressure, this is a good stepping stone for people without work experience. It is easy to take leave, and those with foreign-language skills or a background in information management can earn a quite generous salary of around 40,000. The colleagues and supervisors are all very courteous.

Cons

Contrary to what the website says, this is a local company, and there are many cases of highly paid but incompetent employees. For people who already have relevant abilities and experience, the salary here is below average—very much so. The company may not even be able to assess or understand employees’ expertise. There is overtime under an accountability-based system that exploits loopholes, and the turnover rate in every department is extremely high.

After finding out about the salary adjustment and year-end bonus, there was no estimate of overtime pay or hours, and overtime was not paid directly afterward. The company had previously been reported by former employees, and even the HR staff member seemed ready to resign, leaving after less than a month.
