Pros

A great place to coast and get by as long as you can tolerate the boss occasionally acting crazy. It’s a pretty easy place to slack off.

Cons

1. The job duties described to you during the interview are different from what you actually do after joining the company (they make grand promises). There are no company policies or systems, and even the boss cannot explain what each person is supposed to do. You were basically tricked into joining. Even the salary discussed is different.

2. There aren’t many people in the company, but because there are many locations, there is basically one person assigned to each location. You normally never see one another, information does not circulate, and you have to understand the entire history of an issue from the beginning before you can deal with it.

3. The boss has absolutely no backbone, is incompetent, has poor emotional intelligence, doesn’t know how to run a business, bullies the weak and fears the strong, and has a logic that differs from that of ordinary people. A typical spoiled rich kid relying on his father. The boss’s father is very wealthy, which is why this company has been operating for quite a long time.

4. Because it is a family business, things are even more troublesome. The boss and his father (the chairman) often disagree, and both of them give employees direct orders. You never know whose instructions to follow, and being caught in the middle makes it impossible to get anything done.

5. The entire family likes to speak ill of employees. They badmouth B, C, and D in front of A, then badmouth A, C, and D in front of B, and so on. They also use very nasty language. The key point is that what they say is not factual.

6. They threaten to deduct employees’ pay at the slightest opportunity. Whenever there are good results, it is never your credit; whenever results decline, it is your fault.

7. Because the boss has no backbone, he never dares to take responsibility. Major decisions must be approved by his father. As a result, every decision is dragged out again and again, and his ideas keep changing. (Many vendors do not want to work with them.)

8. The whole family always thinks the employees are terrible. No matter how many things go wrong, it is never their family’s fault. When they need you, they constantly say nice things, but they often turn on you the very next day; the strengths they praised you for suddenly become weaknesses.

9. This is a company with no future. The boss cannot even read the accounts and has no idea whether the company is making money.

10. There are many more shortcomings that could be listed. Overall, if you are still young, do not join this company under any circumstances, because you will learn absolutely nothing here.

Pros

1. Small company, with many things to do and greater freedom

2. More relaxed than a typical job, with more free time, making it suitable for people who already have a side business

3. Meetings are not held often, because they are lengthy, reach no conclusions, and no one follows through

4. Similar to a service-industry role: front-desk staff mainly serve the resident companies and their guests, while event support staff need to look after the event venue

5. Opportunities to meet people from startup circles and various industries, with direct contact with freelancers and company owners

Cons

1. Because it is a small company, no one has a clearly defined role, so work assignments and the division of responsibilities are unclear

2. If you do not have your own goals and the willpower to manage yourself, it is easy to waste your extra time

3. Poor internal communication, with neither the flexibility of a small company nor the scale of a large company

4. There is no overtime pay for working Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays; regular overtime is also compensated only with time off in lieu, not overtime pay

5. Work schedules are often changed at short notice without prior notice, and the scheduled work location also changes frequently

What was said when joining the company was different from what was said during the interview. The interview never mentioned that there would be a probationary period.

Only after starting did I find out that there was a three-month probationary period. Moreover, during the probationary period, I was treated as a part-time employee and paid hourly, so the actual salary for one month was only half of what had originally been discussed......

(It was originally stated as 27k, full-time, and the job listing website also stated full-time.)

[The position applied for was front desk staff]
