1. Every year-end, a bunch of people rush to curry favor with supervisors, and it looks extremely ugly. There are loads of fake sweethearts who exclude anyone who does not curry favor or is not part of their clique. The benefits of currying favor far outweigh those of being capable. Then the supervisors, without taking the proper position, join in and help that group push work onto people who are not actually responsible for it, while chatting and drinking tea with them.

2. According to the company’s break schedule, even when you have not exceeded your break time and have not been assigned an abnormal machine, you do not get fewer breaks. Yet the supervisor comes over to ask whether you are too idle: “Everyone else doesn’t get to take a break—why are you the only one who can?”

I am a contracted employee at the company. Before signing the contract, they say one thing; after signing it, they say another. Once you have signed, your supervisor may transfer you to another department at their whim.

Anyway, once you have signed the contract, they are not afraid that you will leave. One supervisor says one thing and does another. They seem nice to your face, but stab you in the back until you are dead.

Think twice before joining, unless you are truly desperate.

Suitable as a stepping stone: Most frontline employees generally do not want to become managers, so if you are willing to work hard, a recent graduate has a chance of becoming a manager after three years. Even if you are not a manager at another company, there is still a good chance you could join here and be parachuted directly into a managerial position.

Suitable for finding a wealthy husband: Because of its location, quite a few local second- or third-generation wealthy individuals work here. Women have the opportunity to marry men who already own homes, so the couple does not have to slowly pay off a mortgage together.

Easy to expand your network: Because turnover is high, your network can grow quickly if you cultivate good relationships. It is possible that your future boss may come looking for you.

They are not very likely to proactively lay people off: You can look up the measures this company took during economic downturns yourself.

Cons

People are managed based on the individuals involved rather than by rules. If you encounter a good supervisor, things go well; if you encounter a bad supervisor, things do not. Therefore, I give it an average rating.

Pros

The supervisors in this department are fairly humane, but the company is despicable.

Cons

Unbelievably, you have to use your annual leave first; only after it runs out can you take compensatory leave or time off in lieu. That's outrageous.

If a family member passes away, you can't take bereavement leave. Am I supposed to consider myself out of luck when a family member dies? I’ve also heard that some managers internally say that people who take bereavement leave are just going out to have fun. What kind of mindset is that? e04, wishing you and your family peace and safety.

I was a work-study student in the Xilinx department. Company policy says that work starts at 7:20, but the supervisor requires us to be online by 7:10; otherwise, it is considered late and our performance rating is deducted. The rules there are also unreasonable in various ways. Things that originally should not have been our responsibility are changed casually, and we are told that if the SOP has been changed, we must follow it. Even when taking annual leave or special leave, we are not allowed to use it; they say we cannot take leave because there are not enough staff. Honestly, how is that my problem? Taking one day off results in the entire performance bonus being deducted. Originally, the staffing ratio was 1:4, but they deceived us into joining and then the supervisor kept relentlessly instilling strange values in us. While supervising us as work-study students, the supervisor, whose surname is Lin, repeatedly emphasized that when he previously worked here, he would enter the production line early and leave four or five hours late without reporting overtime pay. I don't know what his intention was. When it was time for us to leave the production line, a trainer also deceived us by saying that he wanted us to experience life after leaving the line early and would help us apply for make-up leave. However, he never taught us how to check make-up leave or the various types of leave. After we had been off the line for some time, someone taught me how to check, and I discovered that my make-up leave balance was zero hours. When I later raised the issue, the only response I received was, "I forgot," and the matter was subsequently dropped. The supervisor completely does not understand how the production line operates. Whenever something goes wrong, he scolds people arbitrarily. Even though the bin designation was clearly specified by the customer, the supervisor did not know this and immediately grabbed an operator and scolded them, saying that the machine was down and telling the operator to call an engineer to inspect it. When the engineer arrived, the supervisor ran away, leaving the operator to explain everything to the engineer alone—and then the operator was scolded again.

When there are problems, report them to the boss, but the boss ignores them, and you have to take the blame when something goes wrong. The SOP is always whatever the higher-ups say. They agree on Plan A, but when something goes wrong, Plan B inexplicably appears, and they ask why you didn’t follow Plan B. (Is following the SOP wrong—are we supposed to follow the supervisor’s mind??)

Compared to the military, those who can do the work are worked to death, and when problems arise, people shift the blame first and worry about it later.

Regarding the Product Engineer department for the position:

New hires are expected to work overtime right away, but they aren’t even allowed to claim overtime pay... what is going on?

There are a bunch of unofficial supervisors with the title of manager whose specialty is setting people up and talking nonsense. (That sanctimonious person—I’m talking about you... section manager, my foot... more like “older brother,” huh?)

They even threaten work-study students with low grades so they can’t earn their credits, in exchange for their wages... it’s comparable to the recent news about someone filing a lawsuit, right?

We’re constantly pressured to do engineering work on the production line; old-timers pull rank and use their connections to make people do things.

Seeing so many equipment staff downstairs complain... I really empathize with them.

Absolutely terrible at its core. Management pits engineers against one another, and the infighting is intense. No matter what goes wrong, it is always the engineers’ fault. It is a closed-off and stingy family business, with a whole bunch of awful mid- and senior-level managers. If you just graduated and want to understand the dark side of society, this is the place for you. But if you graduated from a good school, I advise you not to go down the wrong path. Working in equipment here means you are not treated like a human being at all—you are treated like an animal. They yell and curse all day, and a bunch of bosses think they know everything.

Shift engineers. A certain X department refuses to grant leave for reasons such as saving departmental expenses. Even when leave is requested in advance, it is recorded as an unexcused absence. When you raise the issue with your supervisor, they cut you off after barely two or three sentences and snap, “If you’re unhappy, transfer to another unit” (although transfers are actually not allowed either). Production-line personnel are basically not allowed to use compensatory leave or annual leave. Those days off are accumulated for three years and then settled with you, but at a different salary calculation rate, effectively turning them into a company expense. Forced overtime is the norm. People who have been there a long time come to believe that overtime is the company doing you a favor, while deliberately understaffing and making life difficult for those below them. The company’s stated shift start time is earlier than the actual required start time, and as for leaving work on time... that would be a miracle. Job seekers, think twice.
