Pros

Auto insurance claims

During probation: salary 31K (depending on educational background) + 2K transportation allowance

After becoming permanent: salary 33K + 4K transportation allowance

On-site duty: 500 per day + 700 per assignment

Basically, your salary only becomes relatively high after taking on duty shifts

NT$3,000 gift for each of the three major holidays; birthday gift voucher

Year-end bonus: approximately 4–5 months’ salary

Learn about vehicles, insurance, and relevant legal knowledge

Salary is paid on the 25th of each month

High degree of freedom at work

A tablet is provided; it must be returned upon resignation

The system is moving toward digitalization and is relatively advanced, but the system itself looks really ugly. Personally, I don’t think it is very user-friendly

Cons

1. Basically, new-hire training is a joke. Most people are very busy and may not have time to teach you, so you need good luck to be assigned a good mentor

2. The workload is heavy and staffing is insufficient; the team is always short-staffed, creating a vicious cycle

3. The job frequently requires going out. The duties are more like fieldwork—more freedom, but also more tiring

4. Supervisors will hint that you should come to work during typhoons, and take personal leave instead of sick leave when you are ill

5. New regulations from upper management result in additional workloads

6. Most tasks require teamwork. Either you cause trouble for others, or others cause trouble for you

7. Overtime hours are shared across the department, with a limit of 2 or 4 hours per day

8. This job requires high sensitivity, accuracy, attention to detail, and patience; otherwise, it is easy to make mistakes. It tests how you clean up the mess afterward

9. The quality of some of the people involved is concerning

10. The pressure to close cases and meet KPIs can easily lead to complaints and paying out poor settlements

11. Requires strong emotional-control skills when dealing with supervisors and customers

Pros

1. Three annual bonuses (the birthday bonus isn’t paid in cash; instead, it’s converted into bonus points, gift vouchers, etc., which you select online yourself)

2. The year-end bonus is relatively good (depending on performance evaluation)

3. No need to clock in or out (leaving work is based on a responsibility system)

4. Purely office-based positions have air conditioning; positions requiring fieldwork receive a fuel allowance (but receipts must be submitted each month)

5. Overtime can be taken as compensatory leave or paid as overtime

6. Salaries are paid on time

7. Plenty of annual leave

Cons

1. A lot of infighting among colleagues (Although I’ve only worked at a few branches, the situation is probably similar everywhere. Some people have too much free time and like to stab others in the back, gossip, curry favor with supervisors, and bully newcomers.)

2. You often have to absorb negative emotions: agents complain that the company is terrible, the system is poor, and the service is slow; customers complain that claims aren’t handled proactively, the payouts are too low, company policies keep changing, premiums are going up, and so on

3. The spring banquet is boring. Employees have to prepare their own activities, and there is a themed costume contest. There’s hardly any time to eat a perfectly good meal, and supervisors even pressure you to drink

4. If employees make suggestions, the outcome is being “looked after” by supervisors and harshly reprimanded

5. At the end of the month, the end of the year, and before major holidays, overtime is basically required

6. There is a minimum performance target (which affects performance evaluations)

7. Leave has to be coordinated with other colleagues, and the substitute has to do the work of two people

In short, the actual work content is fine and not difficult once you get the hang of it.

The company may be lousy, but salaries and year-end bonuses are still paid on time.

The main issue is the people; good colleagues and good supervisors are hard to find.

Also, property and casualty insurance is the smallest player in the entire group, and people from life insurance and Shin Kong Bank are always taking their frustrations out on us. Q_Q
