Pros

You can wear headphones

When it’s very busy, time passes quickly

The morning shift does not require overtime; during the evening shift, the work may not be finished, so you might have to work an extra few dozen minutes

Each month, you can order drinks and cakes, and sometimes purchase snacks through group buying at half price (limited to NT$200)

NT$600 birthday bonus

Cons

There are no bonuses for the three major holidays

Year-end bonus: some people received one month’s pay in 2019; none in 2020; one month’s pay in 2021

The year-end party was held in 2019, but not in 2020 or 2021

Currently short-staffed for mainland China customer service

The morning shift is busier than the evening shift because there is no overnight shift to handle overnight payment processing

Busier this year than last year: payment processing, phone interviews, responding to customer service inquiries, reviewing consolidated shipments, reviewing returned funds, reviewing purchasing requests, and shipping

There are a ton of tasks that can keep you busy from clock-in to clock-out—constant high-intensity work every day

Payment processing is like being an assembly-line worker, repeatedly performing the same operations

There is an overwhelming amount to learn. If you are a slow learner, veteran employees will treat you very poorly, with all kinds of scolding and sarcastic remarks

New hires are onboarded very slowly

Most new hires resign before making it through a month

Strong stress tolerance and strong learning ability required; workaholics should apply

Pros

The company is very close to the MRT station, and there are plenty of good dining options nearby!

The supervisors and HR staff are all very nice!

Cons

I didn’t stay for very long, but I could tell that the turnover rate was quite high. The main reason is that the workload is very heavy—you’re so busy that you can’t stop working. Even if you stop for a moment, it will attract attention; when you’re at your desk, you’re expected to work properly.

You don’t actually get a full hour for lunch. The supervisor is very nice, but she doesn’t take a lunch break herself either...

You still have to check Skype after work; otherwise, it’s hard to connect the dots on many things the next day. There’s hardly any time to check Skype messages during work, and there are many groups with a huge amount of information you need to know.

I also felt that there wasn’t really much training. In other words, they were too understaffed, so you had to go home and read the summaries yourself. You were thrown straight into the battlefield at work. When you asked colleagues questions, some were very willing to teach you, while others would criticize you for not studying on your own at home...

When I left, the company said that it wasn’t making money because of the trade war, so many benefits would have to be reduced. They also said that performance would receive much more emphasis going forward... and that the year-end bonus was not guaranteed; it would depend on whether the company made money..

Pros

The supervisor is humane, and the pay is higher than that of most customer service centers. It is an e-commerce company with stable income. Operations were maintained during the most severe period of the pandemic, and revenue even increased.

Suitable for people who want a stable, long-term job, and who have a certain degree of stress tolerance and work experience. Those who want to make a fortune and earn big money should think it over.

Complies with the Labor Standards Act; everything, including pension contributions, is provided.

Cons

E-commerce customers can be difficult to deal with. Work is busy, requiring concentration and the ability to withstand pressure.

An annual bonus is not guaranteed at present and depends on the department’s revenue. The Mainland China line can basically receive one every year; even when the economy is at its worst, the boss still pays it, which is fairly generous. However, the Mainland China line is the busiest, and its customers are the most difficult to handle.

Pros

Convenient for meals

The company is located above an MRT station, making transportation convenient

Cons

When you join the company, it will issue you Google and Skype accounts. They may change the passwords and prevent you from using the accounts before you leave the company.

The company is mainly divided into two departments: Daigoubang and Taogou.com.

At Daigoubang, the boss often takes over customer service chats and sets a requirement to reply to customers within 20 seconds. Customers’ questions often do not even have time to be considered or typed out before an instant reply is sent. The boss frequently takes over customer service chats, makes all kinds of inexplicable promises to customers, and then disappears, leaving the customer service staff unable to handle the situation afterward and creating a large number of unreasonable customers. Many customers send a picture and ask customer service to find the product, or ask the front desk to ship something and customer service to handle the operation. These are all unreasonable customers created by the boss.

The boss himself undermines the SOP and working hours. He responds to customer service messages in the middle of the night instead of sleeping, and also asks customer service staff to harass customers by asking how they heard about Daigoubang and whether there is anything they need help with. He often accepts service requests that the company does not support, then expects customer service staff and colleagues at the Japanese warehouse to figure out the follow-up arrangements, increasing the meaningless workload.

The boss expects everyone in the company to be Doraemon plus Mazinger Z, but he only pays monkey-level wages to hire people.

Daigoubang’s marketing team does not inform customer service about promotional campaigns. Customer service only discovers that a campaign exists when customers ask about it. The company has serious problems with cross-departmental communication.

The boss is less involved with Taogou.com, but Taogou.com has an extremely troublesome colleague. Working with him, you will see him evade all kinds of tasks, choose only the easy ones, and frequently pretend not to understand. Even after working there for more than six months, he still does not know many basic things. He cannot even understand that a logistics message saying “being sorted” means the goods are being sorted, and he even runs to ask the vendor. When he does not know something, he does not ask about it; he quizzes people and tries to lead them into revealing information. If he makes a mistake, he shifts the blame to others. If he is scolded after his mistake is discovered, his feelings are extremely hurt, and afterward he tries to avoid handling similar tasks. This colleague also likes to talk about teamwork, but when you actually ask him for help, he completely shirks the responsibility. He even uses his phone to watch the company’s surveillance cameras and says that colleagues are dressed like ghosts. He has absolutely no sense of propriety. If you buy him lunch, he may still say that you were not enthusiastic enough toward him. Every time he opens his mouth, he spouts all kinds of nonsense, and he once said in front of a colleague of XX zodiac sign that I am incompatible with people of the XX zodiac sign.

This strange colleague often giggles to himself in the back or sings while eating his lunch. He frequently arrogantly says during working hours, “I’m chatting with so-and-so.” Sometimes he is also very emotional. If no one breaks his fragile heart, he puts on a sour face as if the whole world owes him something. If you are on good terms with him, he starts talking all kinds of nonsense; if you are not, he starts picking on you or putting on a sour face for you to see.

The reason this “excellent” colleague has remained firmly established at the company is that he has a very good relationship with the Taogou.com supervisor. Everyone in the company knows about this colleague’s heroic exploits—even the finance department knows him. His work often requires reconciling accounts and submitting expense reports with Finance, but he frequently calculates things incorrectly, treating the finance department like a math teacher who corrects his homework. The boss knows about it too, but only passes the matter to the supervisor. The boss will not take responsibility himself, and since the supervisor has a very good relationship with this colleague, they smooth things over every time.

Taogou.com’s marketing team often uses wording such as “no service fee” in its posts, which causes customers to come asking about it every so often and increases the workload. They keep crying wolf.

Most of the customers here purchase goods in bulk from mainland China to resell, but they only allow themselves to make money and refuse to let the consolidated-shipping platform make money from them. They frequently haggle over a few hundred dollars and have no business sense whatsoever. If they buy too much through consolidated shipping and Customs takes their money, they also complain endlessly. They only dare to vent at customer service and do not dare argue with Customs. They want both low prices and fast shipping all day long; after an order has shipped for only one or two days, they already ask where the package is. There are many customers like this. After Singles’ Day, they urge us about their packages every day, as if we served only them.

The benefits listed on the company’s job-bank page—year-end bonuses, the three holiday bonuses, and group insurance—can no longer be provided. At first, they said salaries would be adjusted after the probation period, but that will not happen either. A salary of around NT$30,000 is apparently the absolute maximum, and labor and health insurance premiums are also deducted. Employee dinners, which used to be provided, have also been canceled. There was also a major round of layoffs recently, and even the HR staff member was let go. The Taipei City Government even called to check on the situation.

After reading all of the above, would you still dare to come for an interview? If you are not desperately short of money, then you must be an exceptionally compassionate person. All great practitioners are welcome to join this path of cultivation.
