Pros

The interviewer got straight to the point without beating around the bush, and apparently did not misrepresent the job duties.

Cons

Although the monthly salary offered by the company seemed quite high, the following key points came to light during the conversation with the interviewing manager:

1. The actual working hours would definitely exceed 13 hours. There would be no officially designated break time and no overtime pay. When I asked about the break policy, I was told things like, “The service industry doesn’t have breaks in the first place; if you want to make money, that’s how it is,” and so on.

2. The interviewing manager said that all the posters in the store were handwritten by employees, and that all display items had to be assembled by the employees themselves. There was also a store clerk nearby repairing a fan. The store had neither a graphic designer nor a marketing team; all tasks had to be handled by store staff and completed using their own time after work.

(PS. The company’s website is extremely crude; it is obvious that it was made by someone without a graphic design background.)

3. The interviewing manager was completely unapologetic about the company’s blatant disregard for all kinds of Labor Standards Act regulations, repeatedly revealing deeply exploitative views such as:

“It’s only right to arrive early and leave late for the company without claiming overtime pay,”

“Young people these days don’t stay long. Once they find that the job isn’t what they imagined, they leave,”

“Your previous jobs were all very easy. We have an enormous amount of information to memorize, and there are new products every week. If you’re not confident, don’t waste our time,”

“We can learn so much because we all voluntarily work overtime,” and so on.

4. The interviewing manager looked down on young people and also looked down on ordinary store and sales jobs, believing that young people were all unwilling or afraid to do tedious work.

After a brief 20-minute interview,

I told the interviewing manager that the company’s working hours were too long and did not comply with the Labor Standards Act’s requirements for break time, so I politely declined the job. However, she questioned why I was wasting her time when the job bank had already listed the working hours and the service industry supposedly did not have breaks anyway = = (Wake up, you’re in the retail industry, okay!!!!!!)

(PS. The job bank listed the hours as 10:00–21:30, without stating that this excluded break time, and the job duties matched those of a typical retail store. However, the manager said the working hours were 09:45–22:30, plus making videos and marketing the company on my own time after work......)
