Pros

My role is in construction engineering:

“In theory,” the benefits and compensation the company should provide for this position are:

1. Tire subsidy

2. Fuel card subsidy

3. Car maintenance subsidy, amounting to 6,000 and 3,000 respectively for major and minor services

4. Parking subsidy

5. Permission to clock in remotely, with proof of attendance even without going to the office

6. An ideal work environment with a snack cabinet

7. Located in the Xizhi Far Eastern area, making shopping and dining very convenient after work

Cons

In reality, my experience in this position has been:

1. All subsidies listed in items 1 through 4 are deposited at least three weeks late every month; sometimes I even have to follow up myself

2. Parking fees are reimbursed only after being paid upfront, so the practical effect on disposable income is equivalent to paying out of pocket

3. In theory, the fuel card can be applied for after three months of employment and used starting in the fourth month. However, after nearly six months since I joined, I am still being told that it will be issued at the end of the month

4. The work is excessively complicated. Many duties outside the scope of construction engineering—including responsibilities that should be handled by design engineers and site managers—must all be handled by this position

This includes, but is not limited to, arranging coordination between different interfaces, inspecting infrastructure construction, and urging parallel subcontractors to enter the site

5. The salary appears to be slightly below the general market rate for construction engineering positions, and the stated salary effectively includes lunch expenses. However, the work content is clearly not commensurate with the compensation

I do not consider myself an outstanding construction engineer, but I also do not think this job is suitable for newcomers with less than five years of experience in the field

Pros

Located at Xizhi Far Eastern Plaza, near the interchange. The building is new, the interior environment is pleasant, and there is a department store, food court, and Carrefour downstairs.

Cons

A small company with a lack of established systems. Performance relies excessively on a single developer. There is no sales team; everything depends on the boss’s socializing and entertaining to maintain relationships. It looks like the company has probably made money over the past few years, but it is merely a castle built on sand.

Something very ridiculous also happened during this interview. Toward the end, the boss said that before the end of the workday today (6 p.m.), the manager would inform me of the salary the company had assessed to see whether I could accept it. However, by 8:30, almost 9 p.m., I still had not received a call, so I had to call to confirm. A woman answered (I don’t know whether she was the boss’s wife). After I explained why I was calling, she replied: “Uh~sorry, because there were many people interviewing, you were not selected. We originally planned to notify you tomorrow morning.”

They were basically messing with me. I thought I had been selected and was preparing to turn down another offer. Fortunately, I called to confirm first. If the boss of your company does not intend to hire the applicant in front of you, please don’t say something like, “Go home and wait for us to notify you of the salary”—that’s nonsense. Even if you insist on being polite, at least notify the applicant in a timely manner, by the time the boss personally specified (before the end of the workday today), that they were not selected. Why wait until tomorrow? Do you think job seekers have plenty of time? Other opportunities may disappear in an instant.

This incident alone gives a glimpse into the culture of this company.
