Pros

A very formal invitation to the workplace (Taoyuan or Yangmei). Both HR and the hiring manager attended, the process was clearly explained, and the staff were friendly. You have to find parking yourself, but parking was still fairly easy.

Cons

When I first arrived at the factory, no one paid any attention to me. The people I asked were also unclear about what to do, but they did help ask around.

Some information seemed to be available from the résumé without having to interview, but they still asked about it. When I answered honestly, the manager felt I was unsuitable for the position, which made the process feel somewhat like a waste of time.

At the end, they said they would notify me whether there would be any follow-up, but I never received any notification—even after waiting so long that I had almost forgotten about it.

Pros

From HR and the technical manager to the HR manager, I made it through all the interviews.

Cons

The technical manager is a Director, and asked very detailed questions during the interview. However, some questions seemed to be based on problems the manager had personally encountered and were used as test questions. I explained my approach and said that I had never encountered similar problems, but the manager did not seem very convinced and even self-deprecatingly suggested that perhaps they were simply more unlucky. This clearly made me feel that the interviewer did not believe my answer.

To be honest, there is no such thing as being lucky or unlucky in technical work. If I have not encountered a problem, it means I have my own know-how. You doubt my approach because you are blinded by your own blind spots, which is why you encountered the problem in the first place, isn’t it?

As technical professionals—especially those working in software—we all know that there is never only one solution. Even when using the same method, everyone has their own details and logic. Your own failure does not mean that the method is impossible. As a Director who has proudly solved some major problems in the industry in the past, I think you still have a lot of room for improvement.

Finally, I do not know which candidate you hired, but I hope that person can help you recognize your own shortcomings, rather than earning your approval by using the same methods as you. In fact, perhaps deep down, you are only recognizing yourself, aren’t you?
