1. The management style varies from store manager to store manager, but the only thing I know for sure is that they are all quite strict. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. The store manager I encountered was two-faced: they would tell you how great you were, then at some point, because of some minor issue, suddenly tear into you.

2. The seniority system is very pronounced. Anyone who joined before you expects to be called “brother” or “sister.” This is actually not a big deal, but it is simply quite ridiculous.

3. It’s unclear what the criteria are for evaluating employees during the probationary period. To give you an idea: if the store manager likes you, you can stay; but if they have a reason, they will tell you to get lost or pressure you to leave (at least, that’s what I’ve heard from people who resigned from other stores).

I need to clearly point out a very serious factor affecting the turnover rate here.

I previously worked at the Zhonghua branch. New employees basically run errands and buy lunch and dinner.

They are also mostly responsible for cleaning the cages of the store cats and dogs, and taking the store dogs out to poop and pee.

For people with OCD about cleanliness, you may want to clean everything very thoroughly, but this affects the efficiency of new employees’ learning.

When you need to be actively learning, you are instead doing these tasks. Although everyone says that senior employees went through the same thing,

for new employees in this situation, part of their time may already be taken up by miscellaneous tasks like these.

The store manager is also impatient and points out your shortcomings every day, asking every day how you plan to improve like this.

When I mentioned that the key reason was the miscellaneous tasks above, the only response was, “There’s nothing we can do; everyone went through the same thing.”

On the last day, just when I felt I was about to get the hang of things, I chose to resign.

I had no previous experience working at a pet store.

I recommend that people with experience apply. I worked very hard, but I couldn’t meet their requirements. I also understand that my learning efficiency was probably about as far as it could go here, so I accepted it and left. Thanks to all my colleagues for taking care of me.
