Pros

I interviewed for an administrative position. The interview lasted about half an hour, and the overall impression was good, but you won’t know that the Kid Castle system has serious problems until you start working there.

1. You don’t have to get up too early.

2. The work isn’t difficult (taking attendance, confirming students’ arrival, picking up and dropping off children, helping order meals, collecting money and issuing receipts, etc.).

Cons

1. There is no mid- or late-shift allowance. Salaries generally range from NT$32,000 to NT$35,000, which falls within the range listed on the job bank. They offer you according to how much you ask for.

2. The probationary period is three months. You only need to submit a certificate of good conduct after three months, because if you don’t continue after the probationary period, you won’t waste the money.

3. Although this is an administrative position, you sometimes need to support the after-school care program. If the English department is short-staffed, administrative staff may also need to substitute for classes (the teacher will usually arrange what needs to be done).

4. The salaries for the after-school care and English departments are different. Because there are fewer Saturday shifts, the after-school care salary may be lower than what you initially negotiated; it depends on whether you negotiated a higher salary at the beginning.

5. When resigning, you are required to collect your salary in person so they can confirm that the amount is correct. You also need to have the payroll register stamped with the company seal.

6. If you enroll dependents in health insurance, the accounting department will not process it immediately because health insurance is calculated for the entire month, so there is no rush.

Pros

@ When there’s nothing going on, the atmosphere is harmonious

@ The head office offers many training courses for instructors

@ The workday ends relatively early

Cons

@ You need to prepare your own materials for classes; they cannot be reimbursed

@ Some salaries are below the industry average. If you’re part-time, they’ll even nitpick about what you’re doing during that period and then adjust your hourly wage

@ High turnover

@ You may receive LINE messages assigning work while you’re on vacation

@ There are no standard internal procedures at all; everything is decided by the boss. Unfortunately, there are two bosses, and their instructions are sometimes completely different

Sometimes, if you’re unlucky, your pay may be docked because of this

@ There is little sharing of teaching experience. Teachers’ opinions are heard but then go nowhere. I don’t recommend this place for experienced instructors—they’ll be driven crazy

Pros

1. Educating children

2. Learning more about how you may be taken advantage of

Cons

1. This is not a full-time job but a part-time one, paid at 300 per hour, with each session lasting approximately 3–3.5 hours. Two lessons are taught consecutively, and they keep trying to persuade you to become a full-time employee in the future.

2. Although they say they will listen to your opinions, in the end you still have to do things according to their preferences.

3. They may say that your class is too small and does not generate enough income to pay you, then add students from different grade levels. You are still responsible for them.

4. They will ask you to set aside half an hour, leave the students unattended, and make phone calls to prospective clients. However, that half hour is paid at the basic hourly wage—around 1XX per hour—not 300.

5. Before exams, you are expected to arrange half a day to provide extra tutoring for the children, but the hourly wage for this extra tutoring is also only the basic wage, around 1XX per hour.

6. Unless you are a newcomer looking to gain experience or are treating this only as extra pocket money, this job is absolutely not recommended.

7. You cannot finish revising the teaching materials, so you have to figure it out yourself. When the director's work hours are over, they rush home, and even if you come in early to work on it, you are not paid for that time.
