Pros

Suitable for walking nearby

Cons

For the technician position, the interview involves a 3-on, 3-off, then 2-on, 2-off rotating shift schedule. The annual salary is around 390,000, which works out to an average monthly salary of approximately 30,000.

Pros

It sounds good to work for a foreign company.

Cons

Ever since the company switched to a contract staffing system, the salary and benefits are almost the same as those outside, but the requirements are still just as picky and numerous as before.

Pros

1. A well-known foreign company, which is very helpful when changing jobs.

2. The salary is considered quite good for Taichung; the annual salary for a new contract engineer is approximately NT$830,000–850,000.

3. Good benefits; all three meals can be eaten at the company.

4. The work is challenging, and you can work with engineers from different countries.

5. The managers and colleagues generally have strong academic backgrounds. Most graduated from National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, or National Cheng Kung University, and some even returned from overseas schools. Interacting with them can broaden your horizons.

Cons

1. Except for overseas returnees, most people in Taiwan are only offered contract positions. Contract employees are employed through staffing agencies, receive no overtime pay, and receive no travel allowance for business trips.

2. The reason there is no travel allowance is that the company’s policy only provides payment for long-term business trips (at least two weeks). However, some projects have employees return to Taiwan once every two weeks to avoid paying the business-trip allowance.

3. Long working hours and a high-pressure work environment. Since the work is essentially still related to production lines, working overtime until 9 or 10 p.m. can be considered the norm, and employees are also often required to be on call on Saturdays.

4. The company’s focus has gradually been shifting toward mainland China recently, so working away from home is likely to become the trend in the future.

Pros

Technicians need to rotate shifts every two weeks. Although the trade-off is $$more, it is somewhat tiring this way. Have you considered fixed shifts?

The benefits are okay. At the year-end banquet, the haha prize is a NT$6,000 Carrefour voucher, and there is also an annual allowance of NT$8,000 that you can discuss with the welfare committee to decide which vouchers to exchange for.

Pros

The company favors using dispatched workers and saves money with Filipino migrant workers. Many people have been dispatched for 3–4 years and are still dispatched workers. SCM technicians are very tired; it is tough, physical work.

TSMC is more relaxed, pays better, and is safer than this company—and you become a permanent employee as soon as you join.

Working hours are 07:00–19:30 or 19:00–07:30, but only 12 hours are counted. The reason given is that the first 30 minutes every day are for meetings, handovers, and announcements, so they do not count as working hours (the same idea as saying driving time does not count if your hands are not on the steering wheel).

Although the Labor Standards Act clearly stipulates that monthly overtime may not exceed 46 hours, the company turns a blind eye. Last year, overtime reached five days per month, and the company even joined the government in cutting seven public holidays.

In short, it calls itself a foreign company, but its benefits are still worse than TSMC’s~
