Pros

Pros: The prestige of a large company

(Well, I really can't think of anything else)

Cons

1. This is a job where you spend more time doing miscellaneous tasks than actual work—a place that turns you into an old burnout. There is no way to improve your professional skills because you have neither the time nor the energy.

2. This is a place where you need to engage heavily in office politics.

3. In recent years, with changes to the individual KPI system and 5S activities, if you have ideas that reflect the new generation, you will only end up on the blacklist. The work unit and projects you are responsible for are decided by your supervisor, so... well... you get it.

4. There are quite a lot of relatives and other well-connected people, so as for their abilities... well... you get it.

5. The supervisors are extremely incompetent. You can't learn anything from them; they often just say, “I don't know. There's nothing I can do either.”

6. Don't expect the head office to reform; the management is the same everywhere.

7. There is no privacy.

8. You may be transferred to another regional unit.

Pros

The three bonus installments and gift vouchers are fairly generous.

Overtime pay can be claimed based on actual hours worked.

Cons

1. Office politics make life miserable for people who genuinely want to work hard; if you leave on time, be prepared to be badmouthed.

2. Even after becoming an American company, the workplace atmosphere remains dull.

3. After adopting the American-company system, year-end bonuses have actually become smaller, and promotions are no easier to get than before.

Pros

1. Complies with the Labor Standards Act. Although this means only meeting the minimum requirements, adjustments are made appropriately as the law is amended.

(Some people with a strong subservient mentality voluntarily work unpaid overtime and even feel proud of it, so please do not be influenced by them.)

2. Business performance has been good in recent years, and the company is quite generous with bonuses.

(The systems have been changing since Johnson Controls came in; it is still unclear whether bonuses will be affected.)

Cons

1. Compared with actually getting work done, a lot of time is spent on communication, resulting in invisible waste of resources and putting the cart before the horse.

(There are too many gray areas in the division of authority and responsibility. Meetings never seem to end, squeezing the time available for actual work, so overtime is the only way to catch up.)

2. Although it is not explicitly stated, overtime is one of the factors considered in performance evaluations.

3. It is impossible to delve deeply into technical work: one reason is that there are too many miscellaneous tasks and not enough time, and another is that explaining things that superiors cannot understand will get you harshly criticized.

4. As the saying goes: When a problem arises, instead of solving the problem first, they solve the person who raised it first.

5. Since Johnson Controls came in, the foreign-language advantage has gradually shifted from Japanese to English. Anyone wanting to join should ideally know both.

6. The company dormitory is inexpensive, but four people share a room, and occasionally the smell of cigarettes or pan-fried fish drifts out.

Pros

The pay is relatively a little higher in Taiwan’s extremely low-wage environment.

If you’re willing to sacrifice your dignity for a little money,

then it’s people with a slave mentality like yours who are ruining Taiwan’s workers!

Cons

An absolutely garbage company!

Not long ago, they used extremely despicable means—hiring a lawyer to threaten an employee with a lawsuit—to force the employee to resign.

They were not even willing to provide severance,

just because the employee participated in a medical trial.

The HR staff there are scum,

completely acting as the employer’s henchmen,

but for some reason they have an outsized presence in the company.

The company has an extremely severe overtime culture.

All its policies push up against the bottom line of the Labor Standards Act.

Instead of hiring more people when they are understaffed,

they solve everything through overtime.

There is a very pronounced class system:

people at the top happily collect high salaries without doing much work.

There is also obvious differential treatment and implicit discrimination between Japanese and Taiwanese employees.

If you haven’t joined yet, don’t.

If you’re already there, run.

If you want to join, go die, you pathetic loser!

Pros

Engineer

Around 34,000 for university graduates

Around 40,000 for master's degree holders

Even though there isn't much work and the pace is slow, the work atmosphere is extremely oppressive—I don't know what everyone is trying so hard to endure.

Performance is judged entirely by the number of overtime hours worked. Incompetent people who can't finish their work and work tons of overtime are treated as great.

Competent people who finish quickly and leave early are seen as having no sense of responsibility. In the end, they either leave or learn to pretend to be busy.

As for the advantages, overtime pay is actually paid as long as you report it; it isn't blocked.

Sales in Taiwan have consistently been good, and the bonuses are fairly decent.

Only consider it if you can tolerate a Japanese-style workplace environment!

Pros

Company policy requires more than 30 hours of overtime every month. It varies by department, but overtime pay is provided. Even when there is no business to handle, employees are still expected to cooperate with overtime. The internal culture is very closed-off and the environment is extremely Japanese-style. You need to learn how to flatter people, and remember to laugh at your supervisors’ corny jokes.

If your overtime hours are insufficient, you will be highlighted. I was also warned that if I wanted to stay longer, it would be best to work more overtime.

Work starts at 7:30 a.m., and the scheduled end time is 4:10 p.m., but working until 6 or 7 p.m. is the norm. You cannot choose how many days to work overtime; just cooperate with your department and do not try to stand out.

The pay is not bad, but you need to know how to look busy. The lunch break is only 40 minutes.

If you are willing to be very subservient, you can stay. Bachelor’s degree holders start at around NT$36K–37K, while master’s degree holders start at around NT$42K. Annual compensation is equivalent to 14–20 months of salary, depending on performance.
