Cons

1. The female boss is extremely princessy. Every day after starting work feels like hell, and I’m constantly afraid that I’ll be yelled at even when I haven’t done anything wrong. She often gets angry over trivial matters and scolds employees, treating them like dogs.

2. The husband-and-wife owners look down on employees, including the craftsmen, and do nothing but criticize every day.

3. You genuinely learn nothing here. The only thing you gain is that, after leaving, you’ll realize that bosses elsewhere are so much better. This place trains your stress tolerance well, because not a single thing here is reasonable.

4. After working for three months, they only paid $25,600. When I brought up the excessive working hours, they even replied, “I’ve already given you a lot?” What?

5. I advise everyone not to come here. If you do, you’ll only find that the colleagues around you change every day.

6. The boss’s designs are not impressive at all. He is merely someone who knows how to talk. Every day, he looks at other people’s designs and copies bits and pieces from here and there, while constantly claiming that some major brand is copying him. Please—who would want to copy him? These two frogs in a well live entirely in their own world.

7. If you plan to work in the jewelry industry in the future, you’d better not try this place lightly either. The way this husband-and-wife management team does things is notorious in the industry. Their reputation is terribly bad, and no one in the field likes them. Everyone avoids them. It is truly a nightmare—a nightmare—a nightmare.

When there's nothing to do, it can get so boring that you'll question your existence.

Cons

Pros

When it's quiet, it can get so boring that you'll question your existence.

Cons

After starting work at the store, you'll be overflowing with negative energy.

Be prepared to be yelled at.

Whether you've done anything wrong or not,

or whether you didn't follow the required order,

even people with strong mental resilience won't be able to take it.

Unless you have no thoughts or personality,

being a puppet controlled by others, suited to people without independent thought.

Remember that you are expected to know everything about everyone and everything.

If no one tells you, you have to ask proactively; if no one teaches you, you have to learn from being yelled at.

When you encounter something unreasonable, either laugh it off and keep going to work,

or get fined—the reason will make you sick to your stomach.

Or resign; it's still relatively easy to leave within three months.

Pros

1. After staying for a while, you can go work as a flower farmer.

2. If you want to enter the jewelry industry and use this as a stepping stone, it is a good choice—but you need to be patient.

3. Greatly improved stress tolerance

Cons

1. The working hours are very long, from 9:00 to 19:00. Everyone must arrive and leave together. Sometimes the end of the workday is extended because of the owner's personal matters, but this is not counted as overtime, and there is no compensatory leave.

2. The owner's wife is extremely sensitive and practically treats herself like a princess. Being merely respectful and deferential is not enough! You need to show her constant care and concern; otherwise, she will think you are ignoring her and do not take her seriously. The owner's wife often brings her personal emotions into the workplace, creating a very unpleasant atmosphere. If you make a mistake, when she is in a good mood, she will merely lecture you for a few minutes; when she is in a bad mood, she can loudly berate you from the high-ceilinged second floor of the shop, so loudly that even the first-floor counter can hear her clearly. It is impossible to understand her standards.

3. The salary is far below the industry standard. There is no boundary between work and private life: you may be asked to water the flowers at the owner's home while the owner is abroad, or to buy and deliver food when the owner is sick.

You may be expected to do things beyond your responsibilities, and if they do not meet the owner's standards, you will be yelled at. (Oh, right—the owner's wife always believes that she is not scolding anyone, but merely using a louder voice to express how much she cares.)

4. The above three points can be generalized: nothing has clear standards; you may be scolded whether you do too much or too little; the work environment is full of negative energy; and you need to endure emotional manipulation.

Convenient transportation

Cons

When you finally get to the interview with the boss, he will thoroughly criticize your education and work experience, doing everything he can to make you feel that the low salary he is offering is reasonable. An interview is simply for both the employer and the employee to get to know each other and decide whether to proceed with the hire. There is really no need to work so hard to belittle someone. The boss's sarcasm and meanness really make it hard to believe that he graduated from National Taiwan University. ^^

Pros

The location and surroundings are pretty good, and transportation is fairly convenient.

Cons

I feel like you can be made to do the work of three people on your own when it comes to administrative tasks. This place is very suitable for you.

But if you still have even a little ambition or talent, whatever you do, don't come here and waste your time. Really, don't. Don't even come here to give it a try—you won't be able to leave.

Usually, when they start frantically looking for people, it means everyone has already been replaced in one big turnover, and they're looking for scapegoats.

Huh? Still thinking about giving it a try? Then you can take a look at the points below.

A few months of briefly living out a dream:

I dreamed that:

1. The salary is far below the market rate, and the working hours are long (09:00–19:00). Leaving exactly on time will get you regarded as a bad employee. NT$30,000 is considered a high salary for you.

2. The boss has requirements regarding clothing and appearance. If you dress too flamboyantly, the boss will define you as someone who only cares about yourself (and will label you that way forever).

3. Everyone is expected to eat lunch together. If you are an administrative assistant or in a similar role, you have to wait for the boss to eat together, even though the boss always says verbally, “Go ahead and eat first.”

4. The boss looks down on people and regards workers and laborers as the lowest class and low-level employees, thinking that fresh graduates are useless. Because the boss has a National Taiwan University EMBA, allowing you to come work here is supposedly giving you a chance to learn—aren’t you grateful?

4. The boss has strong preconceived notions about people. If you fail to meet his expectations in even one respect, he will think you are an idiot, that your family raised you poorly, or define you based on your family background and academic qualifications and grades. For example, if your father is a manual laborer, he will assume that you are one too, that your educational level is low, and so on… He thinks you have a laborer’s blood running through your veins.

5. The boss looks down on artists, yet uses artists to package and present himself??? The boss thinks he has supernatural powers and is super-Zen.

6. The boss’s wife frequently explodes and raises her voice at employees. Think carefully before coming.

I only hope to save at least one person at a time.

Pros

Ren'ai Roundabout, good location, office with plenty of natural light

Cons

Thoughts after a brief two-day trial:

As others above have said,

1. The hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and everyone is expected to sit around a round table and eat lunch together.

2. Two guarantors are required.

3. The boss has requirements regarding dress and personal appearance, and the office atmosphere is somewhat formal and restrained.

4. Most of the office members are gemstone-carving employees, with few administrative staff, and the work content is somewhat like being the boss's secretary.

5. I applied for a photography and graphic-design position (gemstone Photoshop retouching), but the boss would also expect you eventually to write copy, handle marketing planning, design posters, and produce finely bound books.

6. Since the boss graduated from National Taiwan University and later studied in the United States, his tone sometimes subtly reveals disdain toward graduates of private universities, believing that their horizons are not broad enough and their artistic depth is insufficient.

Pros

Absolutely none. Don't waste your time!

Cons

One day I dreamed that—

1. In the morning, they made me wait for over an hour for the interview, then told me they wanted me to go to another location to interview with the boss, wasting my entire day.

2. The salary was far below the market rate, with extremely long working hours (09:00–19:00) ??? A starting salary of 30,000—are you kidding me?

3. When I asked the boss about overtime pay, he replied: “We follow the Labor Standards Act from more than 40 years ago here, and this is a duty-based position. Don’t ask this ‘stupid’ question again in the future.”

4. During the interviews, I could clearly sense the boss’s contemptuous attitude toward people of lower status. He regarded workers and laborers as being at the bottom and as low-level employees; he also showed obvious disdain for the work samples brought by the interviewee. A single job interview can reveal a company’s attitude toward talent and its management style. Do you really want to debase yourself by working for a company that only thinks, “I’m giving you a banana, and you still don’t want it!”?

To all job applicants: please do not have any expectations of this company. As for a boss who is unpunctual, criticizes others as worthless despite not being particularly impressive himself (a boss who has nothing left but money, and a boss whose only remaining asset is a National Taiwan University EMBA polo shirt—everyone, please smile at him), I suggest keeping your distance.

Position applied for: Marketing Assistant

The interview lasted approximately one hour. I was asked many professional questions based on my résumé, which made me think this would be a challenging job, but the actual job duties I heard about seemed to have little connection with the questions asked.

Job description posted online:

1. Execute social media marketing

2. Produce materials related to the brand’s needs

3. Execute brand activities

4. Execute all matters related to brand management and development

Actual job duties: Greeting customers at the store, cleaning and arranging jewelry, serving tea and cutting fruit, handling administrative documents and correspondence.

I don’t understand why this company was looking for a “store clerk” but advertised the position as a “marketing assistant,” wasting people’s time by having them come for interviews.

Compensation:

・“10-hour” workdays, with no lunch break (the explanation was that you take a break on your own when there are no customers)

・Two-month probationary period, hourly wage of “NT$110”

・Salary of NT$26,000–27,000 after the probationary period

・“8 days off per month” (shift-based scheduling)

・Signing a contract and providing two guarantors

I hope there won’t be another victim. If you want to work as a store clerk and accept the conditions above, then go ahead and apply!

Pros

You are asked to write many whimsical and interesting topics. The purpose is not to see how creative you are, but to find out how much work you can do and how obedient you are.

Cons

They interview design candidates but keep asking whether they can accept being around crowds, wear a uniform, and so on. In short, design staff ultimately remain on-site salespeople, with almost no design involved. You cannot go out for lunch because they are afraid things will be stolen; you cannot leave work on your own when your hours are up because they are afraid things will be stolen; you need two guarantors because they are afraid things will be stolen; and you cannot have financial pressure because they are afraid things will be stolen. The daily wage is 1,100 (that’s right! Although it says “full-time” above, it is also paid by the day). They say there will be a raise later, but when asked how it will be determined, the company cannot provide any standards.

Pros

The interview questions were quite interesting.

Cons

The boss lady must have drunk two bottles of Kong Yen vinegar before the interview, right? She was really quite rude...

People don't stay long, and the probationary period is still paid at a daily rate—NT$1,000 a day......
