Bottom line: run.

1. The starting salary is not high, and HR is very good at cutting salaries.

2. There are many systems and they are chaotic. There are also many old insurance records with data that cannot be found in the system, so you constantly have to ask other departments, and they may not even respond. When system figures or data are incorrect, it is always customer service's fault, and it all gets deducted from customer service's performance score…

3. You already have to work shifts on holidays, but overtime on weekdays is routine. You basically end up working excessive overtime, and overtime is forcibly scheduled when shifts are arranged. If you do not want to work overtime or have something to attend to, you can only find a colleague to cover for you; otherwise, it will affect your performance evaluation.

4. Supervisors are very good at making grand statements and painting an overly rosy picture of how great the company is. In reality, the turnover rate is very high, and there is a lot of work to do every day.

5. Taiwan Life's performance targets are extremely high compared with those in the industry (a colleague who had worked for a competitor once shared this). Many people resign soon after joining (some were even supervisors who did not last a week).

6. They set up some so-called dedicated hotlines that serve no purpose other than increasing everyone's workload.

7. Supervisors mostly turn a blind eye to the voices of frontline employees. Perhaps they are also used to people coming and going and not staying long.

8. Most of the company's operations departments are very inefficient, and people often call to ask about the status of things (claims, premiums, and so on). Customer service is basically the cannon fodder, because the only customer service phone number listed on notices and online is the one people call, and as soon as the call connects, they start yelling…

9. Anyone preparing to submit a résumé is advised to pass on this opportunity. I have already helped everyone avoid this pitfall.

If you are outsourced personnel, I would also suggest not going. This company currently has enough spare time to summon people for roll calls at irregular intervals, but no time to properly handle its own work allocation (management). According to outsourced personnel who had worked there for a long time, the client-side staff had already completely changed once in just five years.

In fact, the retirement benefits aren't very good either.

Cons

A very poor company. This is a place that heavily exploits its employees. The work is excessive and overly varied, with no upper limit to the workload. Senior management is unwilling to hire more people or implement proper training; they simply throw people into the deep end. As a result, there are currently many openings, yet they cannot find anyone. The manager cannot tolerate other people's opinions at all. At first glance, it seems like they want to communicate and discuss things with you rationally, but in the end, everyone still has to do exactly as they say. It really is a terrible company.

Technically inexperienced and unable to distinguish truth from falsehood (even when speaking nonsense, they pretend to be very knowledgeable, saying “Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm”). At the same time, their leadership is flawed in many areas, and they do not even know what they themselves are doing.

When attempting to use technical terms, they not only mispronounce them and use them incorrectly, but also pretend to understand when they do not. They cannot distinguish how the terms should be used and cannot accept criticism from employees.

When they can no longer keep the conversation going, they defensively use phrases such as, “So you only understand this...,” “So you don't know how to do that...,” and “I was only asking you...” to belittle employees and evade responsibility.

Newcomers are not advised to stay in technical positions for long, because they will lose the competitiveness required in today's society.

Pros

A good place to retire

Cons

Lacks a clear understanding of some theories and methodologies in software development, knowing only how to use them without understanding why, and then speaking authoritatively without basis. The overall technical level is generally poor (depending on both the department and the individual). Unfortunately, the units where CTBC leads in technology have not become leaders within the group; they do not compare well with Cathay.

Ms. Yeh is really something. I advise graduates looking for jobs in Taichung not to submit their résumés to Ms. Yeh through xx4 human resources bank—you will regret it. That woman is already 30 and still acts cute all day long. That man has a foul mouth. The team atmosphere is extremely strange. Don't stay there with that team and those two old b*****ds and waste your life.

Pros

The benefits and year-end bonus are genuinely quite good.

Cons

Not working overtime makes you an odd one out; daring to claim overtime is bold.

Managers are very good at passing off work and blame, with each one acting like a loyal dog.

Getting things done requires completely guessing what the higher-ups want rather than following professional judgment; it’s about who has the better relationship with senior management.

If you can bask in the Ku family's influence... you can walk all over everyone with impunity.

If you can put your pride aside, act like a dog, and seek stability until retirement, this is a very suitable place to work..

If you don't have an impressive academic background, don't come here to waste your life.

Pros

The office is impressive.

Cons

As the person mentioned earlier said, Ms. Jiang seemed not to know what was going on... perhaps she was trying to demonstrate HR's responsibilities, resulting in an unusual situation.

The job responsibilities were not mentioned. At the same time, approximately five people conducted the interview (including HR). After the interviewers finished asking their questions, they sent the candidate away.

The work environment was lifeless.

Pros

The company environment is impressive and has a high-tech feel.

Cons

Last month, I interviewed for a technical position in the Information Department. During the technical interview, Ms. Jiang from Human Resources repeatedly interrupted to ask some unprofessional questions (e.g., “How did you do this?” “Haven’t you looked at our official website?” “Do you know what our company does?” “Can you explain what insurance is?” (She really seemed like a reporter XD.)

From a technical interviewee’s perspective, both the questions and the manner of conversation made this feel like an interview that showed no respect for professional expertise. The quality of the HR staff significantly damaged CTBC Holding’s professional image!

Pros

The interviewer was very kind and clearly explained the job responsibilities and the difficulties you might encounter, encouraging you to think it over carefully and plan for your future.

Cons

Ms. Jiang from HR was very kind, but made you feel worthless, demanded that you know how to do everything, and then offered a salary of 23K.

“Can't you pursue further training on your own? Can't you ask your friends? Can't you discuss it with your family?” Anything could be used to criticize you, and in the end they would say that you hadn't paid attention to the job requirements.
