Pros

Well suited to people who really enjoy presenting and have a flair for performing.

Cons

Years of experience: 3

Department: FAE

Recommendation level: Strongly not recommended

Reasons: The reasons for not recommending it are as follows:

1. The focus of the job is different from that of a typical FAE

Sales and FAE are managed by the same senior executive, and those senior executives place great emphasis on giving presentations. As a result, the main job of a Nanya Technology FAE is not communicating with customers, but presenting on stage. These presentations are not about ordinary work content, such as the status of the customers you are responsible for. Instead, you have to find a topic related to memory or the market, prepare a presentation lasting nearly an hour, and create a rich, polished PPT. You must present it in front of more than 60 people (from Marketing and FAE, in a large conference room or lecture hall), while also enduring constant questions and challenges. Everyone below the senior engineer level has to give presentations. Each department needs one person to present every month, so each person will present about once or twice a year. Just preparing takes several months, followed by continuous revisions. The manager will not mention this during the interview because they know that candidates might not come if they do.

2. Department culture

Moreover, the long-serving employees in the department do not do much work. They generally do not handle customers and do not have to take turns giving the presentations mentioned above. In Marketing, even technical assistant managers have to take turns presenting, while in FAE, the work is pushed onto employees below the senior engineer level. During regular weekly meetings, junior engineers are challenged with inexplicable questions. For one RMA case, they may ask questions like, “When was the customer’s company established?” and “How many FAEs does the customer have?” There are many other questions that make you wonder, “Why do you need to know this?”

Managers also desperately take on tasks and pass them down to their subordinates. FAEs are also expected to do things such as ball planting and stacking SI cards—tasks that other companies assign to technicians. As mentioned above, the long-serving employees desperately take on these tasks because they do not have to do the work themselves.

3. Company culture and environment

The company culture is also extremely conservative, with many ridiculous rules. Senior executives monitor working hours, so the department director requires employees not to leave right when their scheduled hours end; they must stay at least another 30 minutes (if you start work at 8:00, you cannot leave until at least 5:30). Although it is a publicly listed company, it does not provide overtime pay when overtime is reported.

The culture is conservative and there are many rules. The process for bringing a customer’s returned RMA into the facility is also cumbersome, requiring documents, information security procedures, and so on. A lot of time is spent on these things. Reimbursement is troublesome as well; employees have to pay out of pocket for receiving and shipping goods, or else go through a complicated process.

There are no parking spaces near the company (the parking spaces in the building are only sufficient for senior executives). To park, you have to leave your car at the Ming Chi University of Technology parking lot at the foot of the mountain (the company is located up the mountain), then take a shuttle bus up. You cannot use your own mobile phone inside the company and must use a terrible phone provided by the company. The area is very remote, and Uber Eats is not supported.

There is much more that cannot be covered here. Basically, younger employees leave as soon as they find another job, leaving behind a group of long-serving employees. I strongly advise against joining Nanya Technology as an FAE. Do not waste your time in this kind of environment.

Pros

The new headquarters has very high-end furnishings.

Cons

HR didn’t know the answer to anything. They even photocopied the test papers with watermarks, making many questions completely illegible. It was very unprofessional and felt like I was just being counted toward someone’s performance targets. When I asked how much the allowance was for the four-day, two-night shift, they said they didn’t know and would have to check—the problem is that the position I applied for was specifically for that shift.

The unit supervisor didn’t show up for the interview and sent a subordinate instead. It also felt like they hadn’t reviewed my résumé beforehand and had simply been called in to conduct the interview. During the interview, they kept talking on the phone, giving me the impression that I wasn’t being taken seriously. The next day, I received a rejection letter.

Pros

None

Cons

The legal supervisor was not serious and only said during the interview that your qualifications were of no use to us.

The HR girl was impolite; after the interview, she did not see you out and told you to walk out yourself.
