Pros

Still thinking.

Cons

Executives will be unclear about the situation and use it against others—fuck your mother, cunt, fuck your mother’s stinking cunt—verbal abuse, and may even use a stun device to attack.

Even when superiors know, they fundamentally will not take any action.

Cons

I applied through a referral, and both the cover letter and résumé stated that I was applying for the Sales Representative position, not an Admin position. When HR contacted me by phone, they also discussed work related to the Sales department, mentioning that there were three teams within the department and that the incentive allocation ratios differed by team and could be asked about during the interview. HR initially said that I would need to travel north to attend an on-site interview, but later said that because the schedules of the different managers could not be coordinated for the same day, I would first have a video interview and then go to Taipei in person. Since I was still employed, I readily agreed.

On the day of the interview, I was interviewed by Ms. C, the Sales Director. At the beginning of the call, she bluntly said, “Tell me about your understanding of this position and why you want to apply for this opening.” So I appropriately explained my understanding of the Sales position and my reasons for applying. After I finished, Ms. C frowned and said in a rather impolite tone:

“You said the Sales position you’re looking for doesn’t match the opening we’re hiring for, does it? We’re looking for an Admin—an administrative position...”

Moreover, the Admin position in the Grand Hyatt’s Sales department is not a sales assistant role, nor would future advancement lead in the Sales direction.

The attitude conveyed by Director C’s expression was essentially: Do you understand the situation? Are you kidding me?

I would like to ask: Are you and your company kidding me? Are you wasting other people’s time?

At the time, I also pointed out that the job description you had originally provided was not for an Admin position and that your statements were inconsistent. Ms. C and HR did not give a direct answer.

Perhaps my qualifications do not necessarily meet your company’s needs. In that case, you could simply have rejected me directly, rather than scheduling an interview that turned out to be completely unrelated to the position and then making it seem as though I was the one who had misunderstood the situation. Other people also have to rearrange their meeting schedules to accommodate your interviews—don’t their time and preparation count as time?

I just find it hard to believe that such a large company handles internal communication and its work with this level of effectiveness?? This interview experience was extremely unpleasant; I can only be thankful that I did not travel north for an in-person interview.

Actually, three years ago, when I was working for an international branded hotel overseas, I also returned to Taipei for an interview. At that time, I interviewed for an FO position, and they went on at length about how frequent overtime was simply expected and how employees supposedly genuinely loved sacrificing and dedicating themselves to the company (?).

I sincerely feel that working for an international branded hotel in Taiwan is really nothing special. There is no need to act so superior. Please, everyone, just do what you are supposed to do and show each other a little basic respect, okay!
